Consider the following statements about colourant mixing arithmetic.
1. Absorbance is additive for transparent colourants.
2. K over S is approximately additive for opaque ones.
3. Reflectance is additive in both transparent and opaque cases.
Answer: C
Correct answer: 1 and 2 only
Statements 1 and 2 give the two additivity results, one for each regime: absorbance for transparent media under Beer’s law, K over S for scattering ones under Kubelka Munk. Statement 3 is what neither transformation would be needed for - reflectance is not additive in either case, and assuming otherwise is the fundamental error in colourant mixing.
