GUJCET Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates

152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.

GUJCET, the Gujarat Common Entrance Test, is the entrance for Degree Engineering and Pharmacy after Class 12 Science in Gujarat. Two bodies run it, on two websites, with two registrations:

  • The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB), Gandhinagar, which also runs the state's HSC examination, conducts the test: registration, hall ticket, the paper and the OMR copy, on gseb.org.
  • The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), under the Directorate of Technical Education, runs the admission: registration, merit list, choice filling, allotment and confirmation, on acpc.gujarat.gov.in.

Which seats GUJCET reaches

Government seats of a notified Centre of ExcellenceQualified from a Gujarat board and appeared in the relevant entrance testThat test, on a separate registration

GUJCET is the Gujarat board route and carries most of the seats; JEE (Main) opens a 5 per cent all-India window into Government and Grant-in-Aid colleges and nothing more.

Merit for the GUJCET seats is 50 per cent your board's theory percentile in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Biology for eligible branches) and 50 per cent your GUJCET percentile in the same subjects. Your HSC theory result is not a qualifying condition here; it is half your rank. The detail is under results.

Admission runs under the Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Act, 2007, and the Bachelor of Engineering and Technology (Regulation of Admission and Payment of Fees) Rules, 2020, last amended on 14 March 2024. The same committee also admits to Degree and Diploma Pharmacy, B.Arch., B.Plan., B.I.D., B.C.T., Hotel and Tourism Management, the DDCET Diploma-to-Degree routes, and ME/M.Tech., M.Pharm., MBA/MCA, M.Arch. and M.Plan.

Exam Pattern

GSEB publishes the question counts, duration and marking scheme in its GUJCET notification and information booklet for each cycle, on gseb.org when registration opens. Those pages come down after the cycle, so check the current booklet. What is on record all year:

  • It is an OMR examination; GSEB runs a GUJCET Exam OMR Copy facility after the paper.
  • The maximum is 120 marks for the three merit subjects together. ACPC's GUJCET-PCM and GUJCET-PCB conversion tables both top out at 120.
  • The merit subjects are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or Biology in place of Mathematics for eligible branches, giving two combinations, PCM and PCB.
  • Totals run in quarter-mark steps (120, 119, 118.75, 118, 117.75, 117.5, 117), so a score is not always a whole number and the scoring is not simply one mark a question with nothing deducted.
  • Under the 2024 amendment rules, a candidate taking an improvement examination must sit GUJCET of the corresponding year for the improved result to count.
Syllabus

GUJCET is set on GSEB's own Class 11 and Class 12 Science curriculum, and the Board publishes the topic list with its GUJCET notification for each cycle on gseb.org. The portals carrying it are taken down between cycles, so take the syllabus from the current notification.

The subjects that count are fixed by the admission rule: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or Biology in place of Mathematics for branches open on a PCB qualification. The same three subjects carry the other half of the merit through the board theory percentile, so revising them serves both halves of the rank.

Which branches you can enter depends on your merit group (PCM, PCB, PMCo, PCCo or CCoB/M), set out under eligibility. Read the ACPC document for your own Class 12 combination before deciding what to prepare.

Eligibility Criteria

The academic bar

For any engineering seat in Gujarat, a pass in the HSC with at least 45 per cent, or 40 per cent for a reservation category, in the subjects prescribed by AICTE and notified by the Government. The HSC must be cleared from a single board, and the marks counted are Theory, or Theory plus Practicals, in those subjects. ACPC publishes an Updated List of Eligible Boards that settles whether a board qualifies.

Merit groups decide which branches are open

Merit groupSubjectsOpens
PCMPhysics, Chemistry and Mathematics All branches
PCBPhysics, Chemistry and Biology The branches listed in its own document
PMCo Physics, Mathematics and Computer or Information TechnologyIts own list
PCCo Physics, Chemistry and Computer or Information TechnologyIts own list
CCoB/M Chemistry, Computer or Information Technology, and Mathematics or Biology Its own list

ACPC's PCM document puts it directly: a candidate clearing the HSC from a single board with 45 per cent, or 40 per cent outside the General category, with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry compulsory, is eligible for all branches.

Improvement and supplementary examinations

Improvement examinationSupplementary examination
Who A candidate already declared passed by the Board who sits it again to improve A candidate not declared passed who clears it at the supplementary attempt
What they must also do Appear in GUJCET of the corresponding year and complete registration within the period notified by the Admission Committee Nothing further stated
What they get A revised merit number, applicable on the seats available in subsequent online admission rounds. After the improvement result is declared the merit list is revised and the candidate is included in the immediate next online round, all candidates being placed at their appropriate order Eligibility for admission in the current academic year on the vacancy arising after seats have been offered to the candidates on the earlier round's Government Seats merit list

In short, an improvement candidate re-enters the merit list and a supplementary candidate waits for what is left.

Supernumerary seats in Government engineering colleges are advertised separately for OCI, Foreign National, Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries and NRI candidates, and there is a separate J&K admission route.

Selection Process

GUJCET produces a percentile; ACPC turns it, with the board percentile, into a merit rank and then allots seats over several rounds. Everything is online.

  1. Registration on the admission portal, with documents uploaded and the fee paid.
  2. Provisional merit list, with the revised list of institutes and the seat matrix.
  3. Mock round: choice filling, a mock allotment result and published mock cut-offs. Then the final merit list.
  4. Round 1: consent to participate, choice filling, allotment, and payment of the token tuition fee to generate the admission letter.
  5. Rounds 2 and 3, each with its own consent, choice filling, allotment and fee window, each preceded by a published vacancy.
  6. Vacant seat rounds, online and offline, for Government and Grant-in-Aid and for self-financed institutes.

Between rounds a candidate may cancel or withdraw an allotted admission online within a stated window, and ACPC publishes the resulting vacancy before the next round. Anyone who missed the first registration gets a second chance after Round 1: in 2026 that window ran from 1 to 5 July.

The merit list changes mid-process. After improvement results are declared it is revised and improved candidates are slotted in for the next online round; in 2026 that revised list came out on 10 July. Supplementary passers become eligible only on the vacancy left after the earlier round's Government Seats merit list has been offered.

Centre of Excellence Government seats run separately under the 2024 amendment rules, with their own registration and a merit list drawn on the relevant entrance test.

ACPC states twice in its advertisement that there is no need to submit or verify any document in person, and that candidates are not required to hand original documents to institutes.

Salary

GUJCET is an admission test, so no pay attaches to a rank. What the rank decides is the branch and the college, and so the fee. Fees for self-financed institutions are set by the Fee Regulatory Committee (Technical), Gujarat; ACPC publishes its circular but does not set the figures.

ItemAmount
ACPC registration fee ₹350, non-refundable, online only
Token tuition fee Paid online on allotment, to generate the admission letter
Remaining fees Paid at the institute by the reporting deadline
Use of a Cyber Space Centre for candidates without internet access Free
ACPC awareness seminars in every district Free

Scholarship and loan routes ACPC links to: MYSY, the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana; SSIP Gujarat, the Student Startup and Innovation Policy; the Vidyalakshmi portal for education loans; and the Digital Gujarat portal for state scholarships.

Before choosing a college, read ACPC's Institute NBA and NAAC status list and its list of institutions running technical programmes without AICTE approval, which is published as a warning.

How to Apply

Two registrations, on two websites. GUJCET registration with GSEB is for the test. ACPC admission registration is for the seat, and ACPC states that it is the only way to become eligible for the admission process: no other means of registration exist.

StepACPC registration
1Admission advertisement in the leading daily newspapers
2Online registration on the admission portal
3Online filling of the registration form
4Uploading the required documents
5Online payment of the registration fee, ₹350, non-refundable

Candidates without internet access can register free at a Cyber Space Centre designated by the committee, listed on the ACPC site. ACPC also runs free awareness seminars in every district during the admission season.

The committee's website carries announcements, institute and course lists, help centres, designated bank branches, cut-offs, merit lists and allotment analyses; the admission portal carries registration, choice filling and allotment results. ACPC asks candidates and parents to log in every day. Its admission helpline runs from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, alongside an AI helpline and a help desk open 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on working days.

Participating Institutes

Degree Engineering colleges in Gujarat, of four kinds, and the kind decides how many seats GUJCET reaches:

Kind of institutionGUJCET seatsJEE (Main) seats
Government and Grant-in-Aid institutions 95 per cent of the sanctioned intake 5 per cent of the sanctioned intake
Unaided (self-financed) institutions 50 per cent of the sanctioned intakeNot applicable
Notified Centres of Excellence Government seats admitted on a separate registration and the relevant entrance test As notified
IITRAM and MSU (SFI) Participate in ACPC's rounds alongside the Government and Grant-in-Aid institutes As notified

ACPC publishes the list of institutes and courses, a seat matrix separately for the GUJCET (Home State) and JEE-Main (All India) pools, and a revised final list before the merit list. After each round it adds institute-wise intake, allotment, reporting status and vacancy, and the Last Admitted Rank by institute and programme. Marine Engineering carries its own instructions and a Directorate General of Shipping circular on top of the ordinary rules.

Exam Centres

GSEB conducts the paper, so centres, seating and hall rules follow the Board's own arrangements and are published with its GUJCET notification for the current cycle on gseb.org. The hall ticket names your centre.

ACPC's side needs no visits. Registration, documents and choice filling are all online, with free Cyber Space Centres for anyone without internet. The one place you must appear is the allotted institute, by the last date of reporting, to pay the remaining fees: in 2026, 28 July for the three main rounds.

ACPC labels these provisional and revises them by notice. Note that the academic term starts on 1 July, between Round 1 and Round 2, so anyone who upgrades later joins a course already under way.

The 2026 cycle ran past Round 3: an online vacant seat round for Government, Grant-in-Aid, IITRAM and MSU (SFI) institutes in early August, offline vacant seat rounds in late August and early September, and the last date for admission against vacant seats in self-financed institutes extended to 14 September 2026.

Admit Card

The GUJCET hall ticket is issued by GSEB through its GUJCET hall ticket portal on gseb.org, which goes live during the cycle and comes down afterwards. The Board's sequence is registration, hall ticket, and after the paper an OMR copy of your own marked answer sheet, the only way to spot a scanning or marking problem.

None of that admits you to a college. From ACPC you separately receive a merit rank (searchable through its Merit Rank Search), an allotment result after each round, and an admission letter generated when the token tuition fee is paid. ACPC's Quick Guide for Document Verification and Requesting Corrections, and its registration video, are worth reading before the registration window closes.

Result

How the merit mark is built

ComponentWeightageOut of
Board theory percentile in the three merit subjects50 per centThe board theory total, 300 for GSEB
GUJCET percentile in the corresponding subjects50 per cent120

Both halves are percentiles, not marks, each computed within its own population, which is how a CBSE candidate and a GSEB candidate land on one list. ACPC publishes the marks-to-percentile tables: GUJCET-PCM and GUJCET-PCB (out of 120), and GSEB, CBSE and ISCE tables in PCM and PCB versions (out of 300), so you can work out your own position once both results are out.

The top of the curve is steep. On the GUJCET PCM table 120 is the 99.998 percentile and 119 is 99.961. On the GSEB PCM board table 299 of 300 is 99.998 and 245 is 79.66, so fifty-four marks separate the 99.99th percentile from the 80th.

Results arrive from three places: the GUJCET result and OMR copy from GSEB, the HSC result from your board, and the provisional merit list, final merit list and allotments from ACPC. In 2026: provisional list 12 June, final list 17 June, Round 1 on 25 June, revised list after improvement 10 July, Rounds 2 and 3 on 15 and 25 July.

Cut Off

GUJCET has no qualifying mark. The cut-off that matters is the closing rank at a college and branch after each round, and ACPC publishes those in detail on its BE/B.Tech. page:

DocumentWhat it gives
Last Admitted Rank The closing rank, published after each round and again after each vacant-seat round
Rank Wise analysisThe allotment read by rank
Institute Wise analysisThe same read by college
Program Wise analysisThe same read by branch
Institute wise intake and allotted status Seats offered against seats taken
Mock round cut-offs Rank wise, institute wise and program wise, published before Round 1 so a candidate can calibrate their choice list
Closure for the previous academic year Institute wise and program wise, the final position of the year before

The mock round cut-offs are the unusual one: ACPC runs a full mock allotment and publishes its cut-offs before the choices that count are filed. A GUJCET score alone cannot be turned into a rank, because it becomes a percentile, is averaged with your board percentile, and the closing rank then depends on the seat matrix and on everyone else's choices.

Preparation Tips

Treat the board year as half the entrance test

Your HSC theory percentile in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Biology) is 50 per cent of the merit, and GUJCET covers the same subjects on the same Board's syllabus. Neglecting the board exam to focus on GUJCET gives away half the rank.

Use the official material

GSEB's subject-wise question bank for Standards 9 to 12 is free on gseb.org and written on the curriculum GUJCET is set from. Check any bought material against three facts: GUJCET is half the merit, it is scored out of 120, and a score cannot be turned straight into a rank.

Know the steepness at the top

120 is the 99.998 percentile and 119 is 99.961. At the top end a single mark moves you past a large number of candidates.

Check your merit group and seat pool first

PCM opens every branch; PCB, PMCo, PCCo and CCoB/M open listed subsets. And if you qualified from a Gujarat board, sitting JEE (Main) as well puts you in both pools: GUJCET for 95 per cent of Government and Grant-in-Aid seats and 50 per cent of unaided seats, JEE (Main) for the other 5 per cent.

Use the mock round

ACPC publishes mock round cut-offs before Round 1. That is the moment to find out your choice list is unrealistic, while you can still change it.

Register twice, on time

With GSEB for the test and with ACPC for the seat, at ₹350 non-refundable. A second ACPC window opens after Round 1 for non-registered candidates, but only on the seats left.

Sample Papers

No official GUJCET sample papers are listed on GSEB's or ACPC's standing pages. GSEB's subject-wise question bank for Standards 9 to 12 on gseb.org is the nearest official material, and the paper structure comes in its GUJCET notification each cycle, published when registration opens early in the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who conducts GUJCET, and who gives me a seat?

GSEB, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, conducts the test. ACPC, the Admission Committee for Professional Courses, runs the admission. You register with both.

Do my Class 12 marks count towards my rank?

Yes, for half of it. Merit is 50 per cent your board theory percentile in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Biology) and 50 per cent your GUJCET percentile in the same subjects.

What is GUJCET out of?

120 marks for the three merit subjects together. Scores move in quarter-mark steps. The question counts, duration and marking scheme are in GSEB's notification for each cycle.

Which seats does GUJCET reach?

95 per cent of Government and Grant-in-Aid seats and 50 per cent of unaided seats, for candidates qualified from a board located in Gujarat. The other 5 per cent of Government and Grant-in-Aid seats go on JEE (Main) All India Rank.

What HSC marks do I need?

At least 45 per cent, or 40 per cent for a reservation category, in the AICTE-prescribed subjects, from a single board.

Which branches can I apply for?

It depends on your merit group. PCM opens all branches; PCB, PMCo, PCCo and CCoB/M each open the branches in their own ACPC document.

What does registration cost?

₹350 to ACPC, non-refundable and online only. Registration at a Cyber Space Centre is free.

I am improving my board marks. Can I still get in?

Yes, if you sat GUJCET of the corresponding year and registered with ACPC in time. You get a revised merit number and join the next online round; in 2026 the revised list came out on 10 July.
