ESIC Eligibility, Important Dates and Practice Questions
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It runs the ESI scheme for workers and a large network of its own hospitals, dispensaries and medical colleges.
There is no single "ESIC exam". Each cadre comes through a different door:
| Posts | Who recruits |
|---|---|
| Group 'C' posts, including paramedical and technical | AIIMS New Delhi, through its AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination |
| Multi Tasking Staff | Staff Selection Commission, through the MTS (Non-Technical) exam on ssc.gov.in |
| Senior Residents, Tutors, Teaching Faculty, Contractual Doctors | ESIC itself, hospital by hospital, mostly by walk-in interview on contract |
| Project posts and empanelment | ESIC and its Regional Offices, by separate notices |
When ESIC's own Recruitments page (esic.gov.in/recruitments) was read on 11 September 2026, every entry was medical, teaching, contractual or a project engagement: Senior Resident results at Naroda, Korba and Noida, faculty interviews at Sanathnagar and Asansol, a Tutor result at Andheri, a phase 2 result at Margao, an empanelment extension in Chennai, and 25 positions in the ICT Project Management Unit. None was a clerical or administrative notification.
So the vacancy counts, patterns and cut-offs published elsewhere as "ESIC exam" figures aren't ESIC's. For Group 'C' and MTS posts, the notice to read is the AIIMS or SSC one.

Eligibility Criteria
ESIC publishes no eligibility conditions of its own for a written-exam recruitment. The age limit, qualification, fee, reservation and relaxations sit in the conducting body's notice: AIIMS's CRE notice for Group 'C' posts, SSC's MTS notice for Multi Tasking Staff. Each cycle's notice states the age-reckoning date and the relaxations that apply that year.
One rule ESIC has put on record: if you're selected and then decline, your candidature is cancelled. Its notice of 09-09-2026 cancelled a candidate who confirmed his unwillingness to join the post, through his registered e-mail ID, and said no further communication in this regard will be entertained.
Selection Process
ESIC runs no written exam, skill test or merit list of its own for administrative or paramedical posts. Its part starts after someone else's result: it receives the selected candidate, issues the appointment, and handles anything that follows, including cancellation.
The evidence
ESIC Regional Office Mumbai's notice of 09-09-2026, headed Cancellation of candidature for various Group 'C' Paramedical Post, in ESIC, Maharashtra, through AIIMS CRE-2025, says a candidate selected through AIIMS CRE-2025 vide Notice No. 278/2025 dated 11.07.2025, for the post of Junior Medical Laboratory Technologist (JMLT) in ESIC had been cancelled. An ESIC post, filled under an AIIMS notice number. (Read the notice.)
AIIMS New Delhi lists the CRE as one of its recruitment tracks, next to NORCET, REGA, faculty and resident recruitment. AIIMS conducts it and allots selected candidates to participating institutions, ESIC among them.
What ESIC selects itself
- Senior Residents and Contractual Doctors, hospital by hospital, usually by walk-in interview.
- Teaching Faculty (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) on contract at its medical colleges, and Tutors.
- Project engagements, such as the 25 ICT Project Management Unit positions.
- Empanelment through its Regional Offices.
Participating Institutes
ESIC was set up under the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948. It pays cash benefits for sickness, maternity, disablement and dependants, and gives medical care through its own hospitals, dispensaries and medical colleges. That's why most of what it advertises is medical.
It works through a headquarters, Regional and Sub-Regional Offices, branch offices, dispensaries, hospitals and medical colleges. Medical posts are filled locally by whichever hospital or college needs them. Administrative and paramedical posts are filled centrally through a shared exam, which is why a Group 'C' appointment in ESIC Maharashtra carries an AIIMS notice number.
The bodies that actually run the exams are AIIMS New Delhi (Group 'C') and the Staff Selection Commission (MTS).
Important Dates
ESIC publishes no exam dates for administrative or paramedical recruitment, because it doesn't hold those exams. The dates you need are in the AIIMS CRE notice or the SSC MTS notice for the current cycle.
ESIC's Recruitments page (esic.gov.in/recruitments) is updated daily, with a publish date and last date on every entry. That's where appointments, cancellations and corrigenda after a selection appear, and where a direct ESIC recruitment would show up if it ever ran one. Any other date you see for an "ESIC exam" either belongs to the AIIMS or SSC exam or has no source.
Preparation Tips
First decide which post you're after, because that decides who you prepare for.
- Group 'C' paramedical or technical post: watch the AIIMS CRE notice and prepare the pattern and technical syllabus it publishes.
- Multi Tasking Staff: prepare for SSC MTS and check that ESIC is in the list of participating departments for that year.
- Doctor, resident or teacher: watch ESIC's own Recruitments page, which carries these notices every week.
For the written exams, the usual central Group 'B' and 'C' areas apply: reasoning, quantitative aptitude, general awareness and English or Hindi, plus the post's technical subject where there is one. The ESI Act, 1948 and the benefits ESIC pays are useful general awareness for any ESIC posting.
Once allotted a post, take it or lose it. ESIC cancels the candidature of anyone who declines.
