DFCCIL Recruitment Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
DFCCIL recruits from the open market on its own account, not through the Railway Recruitment Boards. It publishes a numbered advertisement, runs its own two-stage computer based test, and posts every notice under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com.
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited is a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, set up to build high capacity and high speed rail freight corridors along the golden quadrilateral and its diagonals. Being a PSU on the IDA pay pattern rather than a department on the 7th CPC matrix is why its posts carry a scale with a floor and a ceiling instead of a pay level.

The machinery is the same every cycle
- Two computer based tests. 100 questions in 90 minutes, then 120 in 120 minutes. The first is screening only; the second forms the panel.
- Negative marking of one fourth of the marks allotted, in both papers. Not the one third the RRB examinations use.
- 20 times the community-wise vacancies go through to the second paper, and parity with the vacancies to Document Verification, with no stand-by panel.
- An objection window on the provisional answer key, at ₹100 a question, refunded if the objection is valid.
- Percentile-based normalisation where a paper runs in more than one shift.
- Only two posts have ever carried an extra stage: MTS a Physical Efficiency Test, and Executive (Operations and Business Development) a Computer Based Aptitude Test.
And ten of the hundred marks in the first paper are Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL, in both advertisements. No general competitive-exam book covers it, which makes it the cheapest ten marks in the paper for a candidate who reads the corporation's own pages.

DFCCIL Recruitment Details
Exam Pattern
| Item | 1st Stage CBT | 2nd Stage CBT |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 100, one mark each | 120, one mark each |
| Duration | 90 minutes, 120 for a PwBD candidate with a scribe | 120 minutes, 160 for a PwBD candidate with a scribe |
| Nature | Screening only | Decides the panel |
| Negative marking | One fourth of the marks allotted deducted for each wrong answer | |
| Language | English and Hindi only. Where the two versions differ, the English version prevails | |
The deduction is one fourth, not one third, the RRB figure most railway candidates carry in their heads, and the second paper unusually gives more time per question than the first: 60 seconds against 54. Where a paper has more than one section there is no sectional cut-off, so a strong technical half genuinely carries a weaker general one. The 1st Stage score, normalised, only shortlists for the 2nd Stage; the 2nd Stage marks form the panel.
1st Stage CBT, the same 100 questions for every post
| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| Mathematics / Numerical Ability | 30 |
| Logical Reasoning / General Intelligence | 30 |
| General Awareness | 15 |
| General Science | 15 |
| Knowledge about Railways / DFCCIL | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
The distribution is indicative, with some variation possible in the actual paper.
The 2nd Stage CBT is shaped differently for each grade
| Post | Split of the 120 questions |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager and Executive | Part-I 24 general, Part-II 96 professional or technical |
| Junior Executive | Part-I 60 general, Part-II 60 technical |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | No split. A single general list of 120 |
| Executive (Operations and Business Development) | No split. A single list of 120 including Economics and Marketing and Customer Relations |
So one examination structure carries four different papers, and the proportion of technical content runs from none at MTS to 80 per cent at Executive.
The minimum qualifying marks
| Category | Minimum qualifying marks |
|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 40 per cent |
| SC and OBC-NCL | 30 per cent |
| ST | 25 per cent |
Note the grouping: SC sits with OBC-NCL at 30 per cent and ST alone at 25, with a 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage. Obtaining the minimum confers no right to be shortlisted, which depends on merit position and the number required. Percentile-based normalisation applies where a paper runs in more than one shift, and ties go to the older candidate, then to alphabetical order of the name.

| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| Mathematics / Numerical Ability | 30 |
| Logical Reasoning / General Intelligence | 30 |
| General Awareness | 15 |
| General Science | 15 |

The 2nd Stage syllabus, by post, from Annexure-IV
| Post | Annexure-IV syllabus |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager (Finance) | Part-I 24 general; Part-II 96 on Accounting and Ind AS, Financial Reporting, Strategic Financial Management, Advanced Auditing, Professional Ethics, Strategic Cost Management and Performance Evaluation, Corporate and Economic Laws, Direct and Indirect Tax Laws, Enterprise Information Systems, Risk Management, Financial Services and Capital Markets, Computer Application in Business and E-Filing of Returns |
| Executive (Civil) | Part-I 24; Part-II 96 on engineering and solid mechanics, structural analysis, building and construction materials, concrete and steel structures design, soil mechanics, foundation engineering, public health engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, engineering drawing, estimation and surveying |
| Executive (Electrical) | Part-I 24; Part-II 96 on power transmission and distribution, circuit analysis and control systems, machines, electronics and measurement |
| Executive (Signal and Telecommunication) | Part-I 24; Part-II 96 on electronic components and materials, devices and circuits, digital electronics, linear integrated circuits, microprocessor and microcontroller, electronic measurements, communication engineering, data communication and networks, computer programming and basic electrical engineering |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | A single list: General Knowledge, Numerical and Mathematical Ability, General Intelligence, Logical Reasoning, General Science, and Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL |
| Junior Executive (Electrical) | Part-I 60 general; Part-II 60 on electrical circuits and fields, signals and systems, machines, power systems, control systems, measurements, analog and digital electronics, and power electronics and drives |
| Junior Executive (Signal and Telecommunication) | Part-I 60; Part-II 60 on electronic measurements and instrumentation, analog and digital circuits and communication systems, network connectivity, power supplies and SMPS, and the basics of marking, hacksawing, chiselling, filing, drilling, taping and grinding |
| Junior Executive (Mechanical) | Part-I 60; Part-II 60 on engineering drawing, measurement, work power and energy, heat and temperature, and machines tools and equipment |
| Executive (Operations and Business Development) | A single list of 120: General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General Science, History of Indian Railways and DFCCIL, Economics and Marketing, and Customer Relations |
Every one of them opens on general subjects, and the 1st Stage paper is identical for all posts, so general preparation serves whichever post you apply to. At Junior Executive grade it serves twice over, since the second paper is half general too.
The section unique to DFCCIL
Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL is 10 of the 100 marks in the 1st Stage CBT, and History of Indian Railways and DFCCIL is a named area of the Operations and Business Development second paper. The corporation's own material is the source: a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways whose first phase is the Eastern DFC, Ludhiana through Delhi to Kolkata, and the Western DFC, Mumbai to Delhi, with field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla, Prayagraj, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida.
Where a Computer Based Aptitude Test applies, DFCCIL publishes no topic list at all and directs candidates to the RDSO website, under Directorates and Psycho Technical. What it does publish is the threshold: a T-Score of 42 in each battery, with no relaxation for any category.
Eligibility Criteria
The four grades and what each asks for
| Grade | IDA pay scale | Typical entry qualification |
|---|---|---|
| E2, Junior Manager | ₹50,000 to 1,60,000 | A professional final qualification, such as CA or CMA |
| E0, Executive | ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A three year diploma, or a degree, with 60 per cent |
| N-5, Junior Executive | ₹25,000 to 68,000 | Matriculation with 60 per cent plus a two year ITI or apprenticeship with 60 per cent |
| N-1, Multi-Tasking Staff | ₹16,000 to 45,000 | Matriculation plus a one year ITI or apprenticeship with 60 per cent |
Sixty per cent is the recurring number. An Executive needs it in the three year diploma or the degree; a Junior Executive needs it twice, at Matriculation and in the ITI; MTS needs it in the ITI but not at Matriculation; and Junior Manager (Finance) needs no percentage at all, because the qualification is a pass in the final examination of CA or CMA.
Age
18 to 30 years for Junior Manager, Executive and Junior Executive, and 18 to 33 years for Multi-Tasking Staff, reckoned as on 1 July of the recruitment year: 1 July 2025 in the current notice, 1 July 2023 in the previous one.
| Category | Relaxation in the upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwBD, unreserved | 10 years |
| PwBD, OBC-NCL | 13 years |
| PwBD, SC and ST | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen | The extent of defence service plus three years, provided more than six months service after attestation |
| Regular employees of DFCCIL | 8 years |
Three rules qualify it. The upper age must not exceed 56 years including all possible relaxations. A PwBD candidate gets the relaxation whether or not the post is reserved for them, provided the post is identified as suitable for that disability. And the date of birth in the application must match the Matriculation or Secondary (10th) certificate, the only document accepted for age.
Medical standards, which vary sharply by post
| Standard | Posts |
|---|---|
| A-2 | Multi-Tasking Staff (2025), and Executive (Operations and Business Development) (2023) |
| A-3 | All Executive technical disciplines and all Junior Executive disciplines |
| C-1 | Junior Manager (Finance), and Executive in Finance, Human Resource and Information Technology |
Suitability for persons with benchmark disabilities differs post by post
The range across the two advertisements is wide, so read Para 2 of the relevant notice rather than assume. Broadest are Junior Manager (Finance) and Executive (Finance), identified across blindness and low vision, deafness and hard of hearing, a long locomotor list, autism spectrum, specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disabilities. Multi-Tasking Staff is identified for LV, D, HH, OA, OL, LC, Dw and AAV. Narrowest are Executive (Operations and Business Development), for OA only, and Junior Executive (Mechanical), for HH and OL only.
Two exemptions follow: PwBD candidates and ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET, and PwBD candidates are exempt from the CBAT.
DFCCIL does not scrutinise applications for eligibility at the application stage, so candidature is accepted only provisionally. Qualification, age, caste and category are all checked at Document Verification, and a claim not substantiated there cancels the candidature.
Selection Process
- 1st Stage CBT, 100 questions in 90 minutes. Screening only.
- 2nd Stage CBT, 120 questions in 120 minutes. This forms the panel.
- An extra stage where the post has one: a Physical Efficiency Test for Multi-Tasking Staff, or a Computer Based Aptitude Test for Executive (Operations and Business Development).
- Document Verification and Medical Test, for candidates equal to the number of community-wise vacancies.
| Stage | Number called |
|---|---|
| 1st Stage CBT to 2nd Stage CBT | 20 times the community-wise vacancies, on 1st Stage merit |
| 2nd Stage CBT to PET, for MTS | 3 times the community-wise vacancies, on 2nd Stage merit |
| To Document Verification, medical and panel | Equal to the community-wise vacancies |
DFCCIL reserves the right to increase or decrease those numbers, and all candidates of a community on the same cut-off marks are called, so a shortlist can exceed its multiple. A candidate availing the benefit of reservation continues to be considered only against that community for all subsequent stages.
The Physical Efficiency Test, for Multi-Tasking Staff only
Passing the PET is mandatory and it is qualifying; it carries no marks, and the MTS merit list is drawn on the 2nd Stage CBT alone.
| Event | Male candidates | Female and transgender candidates |
|---|---|---|
| Lift and carry | 35 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, in one chance, without putting the weight down | 20 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, in one chance, without putting the weight down |
| Run | 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds, in one chance | 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds, in one chance |
One chance for each event. PwBD candidates and ex-servicemen are exempted and go straight to the medical prescribed for them. Transgender candidates are adjudged on the relaxed standards given to female candidates, using the gender in the online application, with the status verified later at the Pre-Employment Medical Test; if it is found wrong, the whole candidature may be cancelled. A pregnant candidate who so declares on reporting is examined and, if pregnant, declared temporarily unfit with her appointment held in abeyance, the vacancy kept reserved, and re-examination six weeks after confinement on a certificate of fitness. It is the candidate's own responsibility to be medically fit enough to attempt the PET, and DFCCIL is not responsible for injury suffered in it.
Where a CBAT applies
For Executive (Operations and Business Development) the merit is 70 per cent the 2nd Stage CBT and 30 per cent the CBAT, drawn only from candidates who qualify the CBAT at a T-Score of 42 in each battery, with no relaxation and no negative marking. It is held in Delhi and NCR only.
Document Verification, and the absence of a safety net
The maximum panel equals the advertised vacancies, community-wise, and no stand-by list or panel is maintained. On a shortfall DFCCIL may empanel down the merit list, but that is entirely an administrative prerogative and no candidate's claim is entertained. A claim not substantiated by certificates cancels the candidature; false information or suppression disqualifies, and services are liable to be terminated even after appointment. Where identity is in doubt or information mismatches the candidate is not allowed to appear for DV at all, and no additional time is given to produce originals later.
Signatures must be identical at every stage, and a different style at the CBT, the PET, the CBAT or DV may lead to rejection.
Salary
DFCCIL is a PSU on the Industrial Dearness Allowance pattern, so a post carries a scale with a floor and a ceiling rather than a cell in the 7th CPC matrix. The floor is where a candidate enters; the ceiling is reached over a career through increments rather than promotion.
What the steps between grades cost, and are worth
| Step | What it takes | Gain at entry |
|---|---|---|
| MTS to Junior Executive | A second year of ITI and 60 per cent at Matriculation | ₹9,000, and ₹23,000 more at the top of the scale |
| Junior Executive to Executive | A three year diploma with 60 per cent | ₹5,000, and ₹52,000 more at the top |
| Executive to Junior Manager | A professional final qualification | ₹20,000, and ₹40,000 more at the top |
Pay consists of Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance on the IDA pattern, House Rent Allowance, and perks and allowances under the Cafeteria Approach, with medical facility, gratuity and leave encashment as per company rules. Pay protection is granted to candidates serving in PSUs or government organisations under DPE guidelines, but not to ex-servicemen.
Two conditions to weigh. Posting may be anywhere in India on DFCCIL's units, stations, projects, establishments or offices, and all posts are transferable at the sole discretion of the Management. And a service bond is executed at joining, with two years of probation during which an employee may be discharged without assigning any reason.
How to Apply
Applications are made online on the DFCCIL website only, with no documents sent by post, and the form must be filled in English.
- Registration is a sign-up with the post applied for, name, a valid mobile number and a valid email ID, verified by OTP, and it is complete only when the fee is paid online on or before the last date.
- Multiple registrations for the same post make the candidature liable to be cancelled or rejected without any notice.
- A reserved-category candidate whose category has no vacancy at that post is considered as Unreserved.
- A correction window opens after the closing date. Once it closes nothing can be changed, and the post applied for, post code, email ID and mobile number are outside it in any case.
The fee
| Post and category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager and Executive, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹1,000 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹500 |
| SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates | Exempted, whether or not the post is reserved for them |
In the 2023 notice the Executive and Junior Executive fee was the same ₹1,000, with the same exemptions. An exempted candidate must still name the category and upload the certificate. Payment is online only, by UPI, card or net banking. The fee is non-refundable, an unpaid application from a non-exempted candidate is rejected as incomplete, and a failed transaction is returned automatically within 15 to 20 working days.
What is verified, and when
DFCCIL does not scrutinise applications for eligibility at the application stage, so candidature is provisional. Qualification, age, caste and category are checked at Document Verification, and a claim not substantiated there cancels it. Signatures must be identical at every stage.
Dates of the CBTs and other stages are intimated through the DFCCIL website and nowhere else, and a request for postponement, or for a change of venue, date or shift, is not entertained under any circumstances.
Participating Institutes
There is one recruiter: DFCCIL itself. Everything is published under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com, in four tabs: Active Notices, Active Result, Archived Notices, where a completed cycle's notices move, and Archived Results.
A single advertisement accumulates a long list of notices under it, in a predictable order: the advertisement, the FAQs, any extension or modification notice, the count of applications received, then for each stage an admit card notice, a mock test link, an objection management notice and a score card.
The disciplines change from cycle to cycle
| Advertisement | Posts | Distinctive feature |
|---|---|---|
| 01/DR/2025, current | Junior Manager (Finance), Executive (Civil, Electrical, Signal and Telecommunication), and Multi-Tasking Staff. 642 vacancies | A Physical Efficiency Test for MTS |
| 01/DR/2023, archived | Executive in Civil, Electrical, Operations and Business Development, Finance, Human Resource and Information Technology, and Junior Executive in Electrical, Signal and Telecommunication and Mechanical | A Computer Based Aptitude Test for Operations and Business Development |
| 04/2021, archived | Included Junior Manager in Civil, Mechanical and Operations and Business Development, and Executive (Operations and Business Development) | Interviews for the Junior Manager posts, and a CBAT that was cancelled and re-conducted |
Read the current advertisement rather than assume a discipline recurs. Operations and Business Development and Junior Executive were in the 2023 notice and not in the 2025 one; Junior Manager was in the 2021 and 2025 notices and not in the 2023 one.
The 2023 notice's vacancies, for comparison: Executive (Operations and Business Development) 235, Executive (Civil) 50, Executive (Electrical) 30, Executive (Human Resource) 19, Executive (Finance) 14, Executive (Information Technology) 6, Junior Executive (Signal and Telecommunication) 148, Junior Executive (Electrical) 24 and Junior Executive (Mechanical) 9.
Vacancies are provisional and may increase, decrease or become nil in total or in specific communities depending on administrative requirements. Additional posts may be added later, and the decision of DFCCIL is final in all recruitment related matters.
Exam Centres
| Stage | Format | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Stage CBT | 100 questions in 90 minutes, 120 with a scribe | At an allotted centre |
| 2nd Stage CBT | 120 questions in 120 minutes, 160 with a scribe | At an allotted centre |
| Physical Efficiency Test, MTS only | Weight carry and 1000 metre run | At a notified venue |
| Computer Based Aptitude Test, where it applies | Psychometric batteries, English and Hindi only | Delhi and NCR only |
| Document Verification and Medical Test | At a DFCCIL venue |
DFCCIL fixes the date, time and venue for all stages and entertains no request for postponement or for a change of venue, date or shift. Everything is announced through its own website.
The notice sequence around each computer based test
- A city intimation and exam date or shift notice, giving the reporting time, gate closing time and examination time per post and shift. In the 2025 cycle the gate closed an hour before the paper began. In 2023 DFCCIL published facilitation centre details instead.
- A mock test link, on the actual examination interface.
- A link for downloading the e-admit card.
- After the paper, an objection management notice on the provisional answer key.
- Then the score card, on a login portal, live for a stated window.
Carry the printed e-admit card, a valid photo ID and a coloured passport size photograph. An unfair practice includes possessing during the CBT a calculator, a mobile phone switched on or switched off, a Bluetooth device, headphone, earplug, laptop, iPad, digital diary, digital watch, book or notes, metallic wear, bangles, belt, bracelets or spy cameras, or any textual material. So does taking rough sheets out of the hall, leaving the venue uninformed, obstructing the examination, submitting fabricated documents, or a forged admit card.
Important Dates
| Date | Event in the 2025 cycle |
|---|---|
| 18 January 2025 | Online registration opens under Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025 |
| 16 February 2025 | Original closing date |
| 21 February 2025 | Notice extending the closing date, first to 23 February and then to 22 March 2025. The correction window had first been notified as 23 to 27 February 2025 |
| 22 March 2025, 23:45 hrs | Closing date for registration and fee, as extended |
| 10 and 11 July 2025 | 1st Stage CBT, for Junior Manager, Executive and MTS |
| 31 October 2025 | Score card for the 1st Stage CBT published |
| 13 December 2025 | 2nd Stage CBT |
| 17 February 2026 | Score card for the 2nd Stage CBT published |
| 19 February 2026 | Revised score card, after a technical error in the first one |
| 12 and 13 March 2026 | Physical Efficiency Test, for Multi-Tasking Staff |
| 22 April 2026 | Final score card for MTS, combining the 2nd Stage CBT and the PET |
Fifteen months from the opening of registration to the final MTS score card, with the advertisement's own tentative schedule running about three months behind at every stage: CBT-1 was set for April 2025 and held in July, CBT-2 for August 2025 and held in December, the PET for October or November 2025 and held in March 2026.
The 2023 cycle opened on 20 May 2023 at 16:00 hrs, closed on 19 June 2023 at 23:45 hrs with a correction window from 26 June 16:00 hrs to 30 June 23:45 hrs, and scheduled CBT-1 for August 2023, CBT-2 for December 2023 and the CBAT for March 2024.
The dates that trip people, in every cycle
- Closing dates move. In 2025 the date was extended twice, ending at 22 March by a notice dated 21 February. Extensions are announced only on the DFCCIL website.
- Registration is complete only when the fee is paid on or before the last date.
- The correction window is the last chance, and even in it the post, post code, email and mobile number cannot be changed.
- Score card links close after a stated window, so download and save.
- A score card can be reissued. The 2nd Stage card of 17 February 2026 did not display correctly and a revised score card went up on 19 February, with candidates told to refer strictly to the revised one.
Age is reckoned as on 1 July of the recruitment year, with the date of birth taken from the Matriculation certificate and nothing else.
Admit Card
DFCCIL publishes each step as a notice under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com. The e-admit card and the score card are downloaded from a portal using the candidate's own credentials, through a link that is live only for a stated window.
| Document | How it reaches you |
|---|---|
| City intimation and exam date or shift | Website notice, per post and shift. In 2023, facilitation centre details |
| Mock test link | Website notice, one per stage including the CBAT |
| E-admit card | Portal login, through a link published by notice |
| Score card | Portal login, from the Score Card tab, for a stated window only |
Candidates shortlisted for a later stage are advised through the website and through their registered mobile number and email, both of which sit outside the correction window, so they must be right at registration and live for the whole recruitment.
Download and save every card, because the window closes. In the 2025 cycle the 1st Stage card was live from 31 October to 30 November 2025, the revised 2nd Stage card from 19 February to 17 March 2026 and the final MTS card from 22 April to 8 May 2026.
Carry the printed e-admit card, a valid photo ID and a coloured passport size photograph, and sign exactly as you did on every other document: a different style at the CBT, the PET, the CBAT or DV may lead to rejection.
Result
Marks or normalised marks in the 2nd Stage CBT form the panel. The 1st Stage CBT is screening and contributes nothing. Two posts modify that: Multi-Tasking Staff must also pass the Physical Efficiency Test, which is qualifying and carries no marks, so the MTS merit list is the 2nd Stage CBT alone; and Executive (Operations and Business Development), where a CBAT applies, is ranked 70 per cent on the 2nd Stage CBT and 30 per cent on the CBAT, with a PwBD candidate, exempt from the CBAT, ranked on the 2nd Stage alone.
Results come as a score card per stage on a login-protected portal at dfccil.com, live for a stated window, and for MTS a combined final score card covering the 2nd Stage CBT and the PET. A card can be reissued: the 2nd Stage card of 17 February 2026 did not display correctly and a revised one went up on 19 February.
Before a result, provisional answer keys go up after each CBT, with an online objection window at ₹100 per question, refunded if the objection is correct. Objections by post or email are not entertained, and there is no re-evaluation or re-checking. A question found ambiguous or wrong is omitted and the marks proportionally equated to the full paper: if one question of a hundred is wrong, marking of 99 is scaled up to 100.
Cut Off
DFCCIL publishes no cut-off tables. It publishes a score card per stage on a login portal at dfccil.com, after each stage, so a candidate learns their own score and position rather than the threshold.
The published floor is UR and EWS 40 per cent, SC and OBC-NCL 30, ST 25, with 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage. Where a CBAT applies, the mark is a T-Score of 42 in each battery for every category, with no relaxation. Above that, the effective cut-off is the last candidate inside the community-wise vacancy count.
Preparation Tips
Work out which paper you are sitting
The 1st Stage is identical for every post, so general preparation is never wasted. The 2nd Stage is not: 24 general and 96 technical for Junior Manager and Executive, 60 and 60 for Junior Executive, and a single undivided general list for MTS. At Executive grade four fifths of the counted paper is your own discipline; at MTS none of it is.
The first paper decides who continues, and scores nothing
Only the 2nd Stage forms the panel, but 20 times the vacancies get through the first paper and nobody else does. Treat it as a screen you have to clear comfortably, not as a dress rehearsal.
Ten free marks nobody prepares
Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL is 10 of the 100 marks in the first paper, and no general competitive-exam book covers it. DFCCIL is a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, building the Eastern DFC (Ludhiana to Delhi to Kolkata) and the Western DFC (Mumbai to Delhi), with field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla, Prayagraj, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida. An hour on the corporation's own pages pays for itself.
Practise with the right penalty
Four wrong answers cancel one right one in both CBTs, milder than the RRB's one third. There is no negative marking in the CBAT, so leave nothing blank there. And note there is no sectional cut-off, so a strong half carries a weak one.
If you are applying for MTS, train for the PET
Men carry 35 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes without putting it down and run 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds; women and transgender candidates carry 20 kg over the same distance and run 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds. One chance at each event, and it is your own responsibility to be fit enough to attempt it.
Use the mock test and the answer key
DFCCIL publishes a mock test link on the actual examination interface before each stage, and provisional answer keys after each CBT with an objection window at ₹100 a question, refunded if the objection is valid.
Check bought material against the advertisement
A practice set for DFCCIL should deduct one fourth, not the RRB's one third, carry 10 marks on Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL in its first paper, and split its second paper the way your post's is split.
Practical things that cost candidatures
- Multiple registrations for the same post make the candidature liable for cancellation without notice.
- Your date of birth must match the Matriculation certificate.
- Your email and mobile number cannot be changed, even in the correction window.
- Sign the same way every time.
- A mobile phone in the hall, switched on or switched off, is an unfair practice.
- Download every score card inside its window; the links close.
Sample Papers
No previous year papers or sample papers are available for DFCCIL recruitment as of now. The corporation does not publish them.
Before each stage it puts up a mock test link on the actual examination interface under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com, and provisional answer keys after each CBT. Completed cycles move to Archived Notices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is DFCCIL recruitment?
The open-market direct recruitment run by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, on its own account rather than through the Railway Recruitment Boards. The current notice is Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025, for 642 vacancies.
Which posts does it recruit, and what do they pay?
Four grades across recent notices: Junior Manager (E2) ₹50,000 to 1,60,000; Executive (E0) ₹30,000 to 1,20,000; Junior Executive (N-5) ₹25,000 to 68,000; and Multi-Tasking Staff (N-1) ₹16,000 to 45,000. The disciplines advertised change from cycle to cycle, so read the current advertisement rather than assume one recurs.
What is the age limit?
18 to 30 for Junior Manager, Executive and Junior Executive, and 18 to 33 for MTS, as on 1 July of the recruitment year. SC and ST get 5 years relaxation, OBC-NCL 3, PwBD candidates 10, 13 or 15 by community, and regular DFCCIL employees 8, with a ceiling of 56 years including everything.
What is the selection process?
A 1st Stage CBT of 100 questions in 90 minutes, screening only; a 2nd Stage CBT of 120 questions in 120 minutes, which forms the panel; an extra stage where the post has one; then Document Verification and a medical test.
Which posts have an extra stage?
Two. Multi-Tasking Staff sits a Physical Efficiency Test, qualifying only, and Executive (Operations and Business Development) in the 2023 notice sat a Computer Based Aptitude Test worth 30 per cent of the merit. PwBD candidates and ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET, and PwBD candidates from the CBAT.
What are the PET standards?
Men: carry 35 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes without putting the weight down, and run 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds. Women and transgender candidates: 20 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, and 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds. One chance at each event.
Is there negative marking, and what are the qualifying marks?
One fourth of the marks allotted per wrong answer in both CBTs, none in the CBAT, and no sectional cut-off. Minimum qualifying marks are UR and EWS 40 per cent, SC and OBC-NCL 30, ST 25, with 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage.
How many candidates go through at each stage?
20 times the community-wise vacancies to the 2nd Stage CBT, 3 times to the PET for MTS, and parity with the vacancies to Document Verification. No stand-by list or panel is maintained.
What is the application fee?
₹1,000 for Junior Manager and Executive and ₹500 for MTS, in UR, OBC-NCL and EWS. SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates are exempted, whether or not the post is reserved for them. The fee is non-refundable.
Does DFCCIL publish cut-offs or previous papers?
Neither. It publishes a score card per stage on a login portal, live for a stated window, so you learn your own score and position. There is no past-paper archive, though a mock test on the real interface goes up before each stage.
How long does a cycle take?
About fifteen months in 2025: registration opened on 18 January 2025, closed on 22 March after two extensions, CBT-1 ran on 10 and 11 July 2025, CBT-2 on 13 December 2025, the PET on 12 and 13 March 2026, and the final MTS score card appeared on 22 April 2026. The advertisement's own tentative schedule ran about three months early at every stage.
Where will I be posted, and what happens after joining?
Anywhere in India on DFCCIL's units, stations, projects, establishments or offices, and all posts are transferable at the sole discretion of the Management. A service bond is executed at joining and probation is two years, during which an employee may be discharged without assigning any reason.
