DFCCIL MTS Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
DFCCIL MTS is Multi-Tasking Staff in the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways. DFCCIL recruits on its own, not through the RRBs. The last cycle was Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025.

Minimum qualifying marks
| Category | Minimum qualifying marks |
|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 40 per cent |
| SC and OBC-NCL | 30 per cent |
| ST | 25 per cent |
Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates follow their community, with a 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD if there's a shortage. Clearing the minimum doesn't guarantee shortlisting.
Physical Efficiency Test (MTS only)
| Event | Male candidates | Female and transgender candidates |
|---|---|---|
| Lift and carry | 35 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, without putting the weight down | 20 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, without putting the weight down |
| Run | 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds | 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds |
- One chance at each event. Mandatory, qualifying, no marks.
- PwBD candidates and ex-servicemen are exempt, but must pass their prescribed medical.
- Transgender candidates get the female standards; status is verified at the medical, and a false claim can cancel the candidature.
- A pregnant candidate is declared temporarily unfit, the vacancy is held, and she's re-examined six weeks after confinement.
- You're responsible for being fit enough to attempt it; DFCCIL isn't liable for injuries.
Normalisation, ties and objections
Multi-shift papers are normalised by percentile. Ties go to the older candidate, then alphabetical order. Answer key objections cost ₹100 per question, online only, and are refunded if the objection is upheld. A wrong or ambiguous question is dropped and the paper rescaled (99 questions scaled to 100). There's no re-evaluation.
Syllabus
1st Stage CBT, the same for every post
| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| Mathematics / Numerical Ability | 30 |
| Logical Reasoning / General Intelligence | 30 |
| General Awareness | 15 |
| General Science | 15 |
| Knowledge about Railways / DFCCIL | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
The split is indicative.
2nd Stage CBT, Annexure-IV, post code 31
One list, 120 questions, no published split: General Knowledge, Numerical and Mathematical Ability, General Intelligence, Logical Reasoning, General Science, and Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL. Executive posts get 24 general and 96 technical questions; MTS has no trade or technical part, even though the entry qualification is an ITI.
For the Railways and DFCCIL section: DFCCIL is a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways; its first phase is the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors; its field units are at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla, Prayagraj, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
Matriculation plus a course-completed Act Apprenticeship or ITI of at least one year, approved by NCVT or SCVT, with not less than 60 per cent in the ITI. The 60 per cent is for the ITI, not matriculation, and an apprenticeship still in progress doesn't count.
Age, as on 1 July 2025
18 to 33 years (Junior Manager and Executive are 18 to 30).
| Category | Relaxation in the upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwBD, unreserved | 10 years |
| PwBD, OBC-NCL | 13 years |
| PwBD, SC and ST | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen | Defence service plus three years, with more than six months' service after attestation |
| Regular employees of DFCCIL | 8 years |
No one can exceed 56 years with all relaxations. PwBD relaxation applies even to unreserved posts if the post suits the disability. Only the date of birth on your Matriculation certificate is accepted.
Reservation on the 464 posts
| UR | SC | ST | OBC-NCL | EWS | PwBD | Ex-servicemen |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 194 | 70 | 32 | 122 | 46 | 33 | 113 |
PwBD and ex-servicemen posts are horizontal, counted within the totals. MTS suits PwBD categories LV, D, HH, OA, OL, LC, Dw and AAV. Medical standard is A-2, the only A-2 post in the advertisement.
DFCCIL doesn't check eligibility until document verification. A claim you can't back up there cancels your candidature, and false information can end your service even after joining.
Selection Process
- 1st Stage CBT, screening only. 20 times the community-wise vacancies go through.
- 2nd Stage CBT, which alone forms the merit. 3 times the vacancies go to the PET.
- Physical Efficiency Test, qualifying.
- Document Verification and Medical Test, called equal to the vacancies.
Against 464 posts, that's roughly 9,280 at the 2nd CBT and 1,392 at the PET. Everyone tied on a community's cut-off is called, and DFCCIL can change the numbers. Reserved candidates stay in their category at every later stage.
No stand-by list is kept. DFCCIL may go down the merit list if there's a shortfall, but that's its call alone. At verification there's no extra time for missing originals, and your signature must match at every stage.
Salary
MTS is N-1 on the IDA pattern, ₹16,000 to 45,000. As a PSU, DFCCIL uses a scale with a floor and ceiling rather than a 7th CPC pay level.
| Post | Level and IDA scale | Medical | Age as on 1 Jul 2025 | Qualification | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Manager (Finance) | E2, ₹50,000 to 1,60,000 | C-1 | 18 to 30 | Pass in the final examination of CA or CMA | 3 |
| Executive (Civil) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma in the discipline with not less than 60 per cent | 36 |
| Executive (Electrical) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma with not less than 60 per cent | 64 |
| Executive (Signal and Telecommunication) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma with not less than 60 per cent | 75 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | N-1, ₹16,000 to 45,000 | A-2 | 18 to 33 | Matriculation plus a one year Act Apprenticeship or ITI approved by NCVT or SCVT, with not less than 60 per cent in the ITI | 464 |
| Total | 642 | ||||
- Pay is basic plus IDA dearness allowance, HRA, and Cafeteria Approach perks, with medical cover, gratuity and leave encashment.
- Posting anywhere in India, transferable at the Management's discretion.
- A service bond at joining.
- Two years' probation, during which you can be discharged without reasons.
- Pay protection for serving PSU or government staff, but not for ex-servicemen.
- Promotion follows the company's Promotion Policy.
How to Apply
Apply online on the DFCCIL website only, in English. Register with the post, name, mobile and email (OTP verified). Registration is complete only when the fee is paid. Registering twice for the same post can get you cancelled without notice. If there's no vacancy in your category, you're considered as Unreserved.
| Post and category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager and Executive, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹1,000 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹500 |
| SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates | Exempted, whether or not the post is reserved for them |
The fee rules are at Para 14 of the advertisement. Exempted candidates still declare the category and upload the certificate. Pay online by UPI, card or net banking. The fee isn't refunded; a failed transaction comes back in 15 to 20 working days.
A correction window follows the closing date (first notified as 23 to 27 February 2025), but the post, post code, email and mobile can't be changed. No requests to change venue, date or shift are accepted.
For verification, bring your Matriculation certificate, the ITI or apprenticeship certificate with marks, caste certificates (an OBC-NCL certificate no older than one year, or you're treated as UR), and any ex-servicemen or PwBD papers. DFCCIL also published FAQs for this advertisement.
Participating Institutes
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited is a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, building high capacity freight corridors along the golden quadrilateral and its diagonals. Its first phase is the Eastern and Western DFCs. Its registered and corporate office is in New Delhi, with the corporate office moving to Noida, and it has field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla (Agra), Prayagraj East and West, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai North and South, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida. Annexure-III of the advertisement lists its units and stations.
DFCCIL runs the whole recruitment itself and posts every notice under Open Market Recruitment on its website. Vacancies are provisional and can rise, fall, or become nil.
Exam Centres
DFCCIL fixes the date, time and venue for each stage and posts them on its website. Before each CBT it publishes a city intimation notice giving reporting time, gate closing (typically an hour before the paper) and exam time. Requests to change are not entertained.
Bring the e-admit card, a valid photo ID and a coloured passport photo. A mobile phone, even switched off, counts as an unfair practice, as do calculators, digital watches, metallic wear, bangles, belts, any written material, or taking rough sheets out of the hall.
Important Dates
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 18 January 2025 | Registration opens |
| 16 February 2025 | Original closing date |

Fifteen months from registration to final score card, about three months behind the advertised schedule at every stage. DFCCIL has no fixed annual cycle; watch its website.
Admit Card
E-admit cards and score cards are downloaded with your own login, through links posted under Open Market Recruitment. Links close: the 1st Stage card was live 31 October to 30 November 2025, the revised 2nd Stage card 19 February to 17 March 2026, and the final MTS card 22 April to 8 May 2026. Download and save each one. Shortlisted candidates are also alerted by SMS and email.
Result
MTS merit is the 2nd Stage CBT alone; the 1st Stage and the PET add nothing. The combined final score card for MTS was published on 22 April 2026 under Open Market Recruitment. DFCCIL doesn't reply to candidates who aren't selected, and its decision is final.
Cut Off
DFCCIL hasn't published category-wise cut-off marks for MTS. It publishes individual score cards per stage on a login portal for a few weeks, and the minimum qualifying marks in the advertisement (40, 30 and 25 per cent). Any future cut-off notice would appear under Open Market Recruitment.
Preparation Tips
- Skip your trade. Both papers are general; the ITI only gets you in.
- Drill maths and reasoning. They're 60 of the first 100 marks.
- Learn the Railways and DFCCIL section, 10 marks that no general book covers.
- Practise with a one-fourth penalty, not RRB's one third or none at all.
- Use the extra time in the 2nd CBT. It's the whole merit and gives 60 seconds a question.
- Use DFCCIL's mock test link, posted before each CBT, to learn the interface.
- Start PET training early. A 35 kg carry over 100 m without setting it down is grip and posture as much as strength. In the last cycle the PET came nine months after the first CBT.
- Check your ITI paperwork before applying: course-completed, one year, NCVT or SCVT, 60 per cent.
- Sign the same way every time, and keep your phone out of the hall.
Sample Papers
DFCCIL doesn't publish past MTS papers. It does post a mock test link before each CBT and provisional answer keys after it, both under Open Market Recruitment. The section split and syllabus are in Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025 (40 pages).
