DFCCIL Junior Manager Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
DFCCIL Junior Manager is the entry management grade at the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways. In the last open market notice, Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025, the grade was advertised in Finance alone.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Post | Junior Manager (Finance), post code 11 |
| Level and scale | E2, IDA pay scale ₹50,000 to 1,60,000 |
| Medical standard | C-1, the least demanding in the notice |
| Age as on 1 July 2025 | 18 to 30 years |
| Qualification | Pass in the final examination of CA or CMA, from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India |
| Vacancies | 3, one UR and two OBC-NCL |
This is the smallest and the best paid post in that advertisement. Entry pay is ₹50,000 against ₹30,000 for an Executive and ₹16,000 for Multi-Tasking Staff, and the qualification is a professional pass, not a degree.
Selection is two computer based tests and nothing else. The first is 100 general questions and screens only. The second is 120 questions, 96 of them from the CA and CMA final syllabus, and that paper alone forms the panel. There is no interview. A wrong answer costs one fourth of a mark in both papers, not the one third the RRB examinations deduct.
Junior Manager (Finance) is also the post in the notice identified as suitable for the widest range of benchmark disabilities, though with three vacancies none is earmarked for a PwBD candidate.

DFCCIL Junior Manager Details
Exam Pattern
| Item | 1st Stage CBT | 2nd Stage CBT |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 100, one mark each | 120, one mark each |
| Duration | 90 minutes, 120 with a scribe | 120 minutes, 160 with a scribe |
| Nature | Screening only | Forms the panel |
| Negative marking | One fourth of the marks allotted for each wrong answer | |
| Language | English and Hindi only. Where the two differ, the English version prevails | |
| Standard | In conformity with the educational standard prescribed for the post | |
The deduction is a quarter mark, not the third that most railway candidates carry in their heads. And where a paper has more than one section there is no sectional cut-off, so the aggregate decides.
The 1st Stage score, or normalised score, is used only to shortlist candidates for the 2nd Stage. Marks in the 2nd Stage CBT are what build the panel.
The second paper for post code 11
| Part | Questions | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Part-I | 24 | General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Reasoning |
| Part-II | 96 | The professional syllabus at Annexure-IV |
| Total | 120 | 120 minutes |
Normalisation and ties
A percentile-based normalisation is applied where a CBT runs in more than one shift for the same post. If two candidates still finish level, the older one by date of birth is placed higher; if their dates of birth match too, names go in alphabetical order.
Questions found ambiguous, with no correct option or with more than one, are dropped from evaluation and the marks are scaled back up to the full paper before normalisation. The advertisement gives the arithmetic: if one question of a hundred goes, the other 99 are marked and scaled to 100.
Syllabus
1st Stage CBT, the same 100 questions for every post
| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| Mathematics / Numerical Ability | 30 |
| Logical Reasoning / General Intelligence | 30 |
| General Awareness | 15 |
| General Science | 15 |
| Knowledge about Railways / DFCCIL | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
The split is indicative, and the actual paper may vary a little. Ten of those hundred marks are Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL, which no general competitive-exam book covers. The source is the corporation's own material: a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, first phase the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, with field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla, Prayagraj, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida.
2nd Stage CBT, Part-I, 24 questions
General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Reasoning. Annexure-IV says no more about it, and it is the same Part-I every Executive candidate sits.
2nd Stage CBT, Part-II, 96 questions, post code 11
Annexure-IV prints the professional subjects as one continuous list. Grouped for reading:
| Group | Subjects named in Annexure-IV |
|---|---|
| Accounting and reporting | Accounting and Ind AS Standards, Financial Reporting |
| Finance and costing | Strategic Financial Management, Strategic Cost Management and Performance Evaluation, Risk Management, Financial Services and Capital Markets |
| Audit and ethics | Advanced Auditing, Professional Ethics |
| Law | Corporate and Economic Laws |
| Taxation | Direct Tax Laws, Indirect Tax Laws, E-Filing of Returns |
| Systems | Enterprise Information Systems, Computer Application in Business |
This is final level, not intermediate. Strategic financial management, advanced auditing, strategic cost management and corporate and economic laws are all CA or CMA final papers, which follows from an eligibility written as a pass in the final examination. Two entries are practice rather than theory and are easy to leave out of revision drawn from institute material: E-Filing of Returns and Computer Application in Business.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
A pass in the final examination of CA or CMA, from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. That is the whole requirement, and it is the only post in the advertisement asking for a professional membership examination instead of a degree or diploma.
Age, as on 1 July 2025
18 to 30 years, the same window as Executive. Multi-Tasking Staff in the same notice runs to 33.
| Category | Relaxation in the upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwBD, unreserved | 10 years |
| PwBD, OBC-NCL | 13 years |
| PwBD, SC and ST | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen | Service rendered in defence plus three years, provided more than six months service after attestation |
| Regular employees of DFCCIL | 8 years |
- No applicant may exceed 56 years after every relaxation he or she is entitled to.
- PwBD age relaxation applies whether or not the post is reserved, so long as the post is identified as suitable for that disability.
- Date of birth is taken from the Matriculation or Secondary (10th) certificate and from nothing else.
Medical standard C-1
The only C-1 post in the notice. The three Executive disciplines are A-3 and MTS is A-2, both more demanding. Appointment follows a medical fitness test by the authorities the advertisement names.
Persons with benchmark disabilities
The advertisement records the post as suitable for B and LV; D and HH; OA, BA, OL, BL, OAL, BLOA, BLA, CP, LC, Dw, AAV and MDy; ASD (Mild), SLD and MI, and multiple disabilities involving any of those. Executive (Civil), by comparison, is identified for OA, Dw and AAV only, so a candidate ruled out of the technical posts may still be eligible here. No PwBD or ex-servicemen vacancy is earmarked against the three Junior Manager posts.
Reservation on the three vacancies
| UR | SC | ST | OBC-NCL | EWS | PwBD | Ex-servicemen |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Anyone may be considered against the UR vacancy on UR parameters, but the two OBC-NCL vacancies go to OBC-NCL candidates only. A candidate whose category has no vacancy here is treated as Unreserved. An OBC-NCL certificate shown at Document Verification must be less than a year old, and a non-creamy-layer declaration is given before joining; without either, the candidate competes for the UR vacancy alone.
Selection Process
- 1st Stage CBT, 100 general questions in 90 minutes. Screening.
- 2nd Stage CBT, 120 questions in 120 minutes, 96 of them professional. This forms the panel.
- Document Verification and Medical Test.
No interview, no group discussion, no physical test. The Physical Efficiency Test in this advertisement applies to Multi-Tasking Staff only. A management grade PSU post filled on written papers alone is unusual, and DFCCIL states that selection is strictly as per merit.
How many go forward
| Stage | Candidates called |
|---|---|
| 2nd Stage CBT | 20 times the community-wise vacancies, on 1st Stage merit |
| Document Verification, medical and panel | Equal to the community-wise vacancies, on 2nd Stage merit |
Against three vacancies that is roughly 60 candidates into the second paper, 20 on the UR vacancy and 40 on the two OBC-NCL ones, and then one and two called to verification. Everyone of a community sitting on the same cut-off mark is called, so a shortlist can run past the stated multiple, and DFCCIL may raise or lower the numbers. A candidate who claimed reservation stays against that community through every later stage.
Document Verification
- No stand-by list or panel is kept, and the panel can be no larger than the advertised vacancies, community-wise.
- On a shortfall DFCCIL may go down the merit list, but it calls that an administrative prerogative and will entertain no request for it.
- Applications are not scrutinised for eligibility before this point, so every candidature until then is provisional. A claim no certificate supports is cancelled, and false or suppressed information can cost the job even after appointment.
- Where identity is in doubt, the documents cannot be produced or the information does not match, the candidate is not allowed to sit the verification at all. Nobody gets extra time to fetch originals.
Sign the same way on every document. The advertisement warns that a signature in a different style at the CBT or at verification may lead to rejection.
Salary
DFCCIL pays on the Industrial Dearness Allowance pattern, so a post carries a scale rather than a 7th CPC pay level. Junior Manager is E2: ₹50,000 at entry, ₹1,60,000 at the top. Basic pay is joined by IDA dearness allowance, house rent allowance and perks under the Cafeteria Approach, with medical facility, gratuity and leave encashment per company rules.
Where the grade sits in the 2025 advertisement
| Post | Level and IDA scale | Medical | Age | Qualification | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Manager (Finance) | E2, ₹50,000 to 1,60,000 | C-1 | 18 to 30 | Pass in the final examination of CA or CMA | 3 |
| Executive (Civil) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma in the discipline, not less than 60 per cent | 36 |
| Executive (Electrical) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma, not less than 60 per cent | 64 |
| Executive (Signal and Telecommunication) | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | A-3 | 18 to 30 | Three year diploma, not less than 60 per cent | 75 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | N-1, ₹16,000 to 45,000 | A-2 | 18 to 33 | Matriculation plus a one year Act Apprenticeship or NCVT/SCVT ITI, not less than 60 per cent in the ITI | 464 |
| Total | 642 | ||||
Posting may be anywhere in India, and every post is transferable at the Management's discretion. A service bond is signed at joining, and probation runs two years, during which an employee may be discharged without a reason given. DPE pay protection covers candidates already in a PSU or government job, but not ex-servicemen.
How to Apply
Apply online on the DFCCIL website only, in English, at dfccil.com. Nothing is sent by post. Registration starts with the post applied for, your name, a working mobile number and email, both verified by OTP, and it is complete only when the fee has been paid on or before the last date.
| Post and category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager and Executive, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹1,000 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹500 |
| SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates | Exempt, whether or not the post is reserved for them |
Payment is online, by UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking. The fee is never refunded, and an application from a candidate who owes it and has not paid is rejected as incomplete. A failed transaction comes back to the paying account in 15 to 20 working days. An exempt candidate still has to name the category in the form and upload the certificate.
- Register once. Multiple registrations for the same post can have the candidature cancelled without notice.
- A correction window opens after the closing date. Even inside it, the post applied for, the post code, the email and the mobile number cannot be changed, so get those right first time.
- Check whether your category has a vacancy at this post. If it does not, you are considered as Unreserved.
- Dates for the CBTs and later stages are announced on the DFCCIL website as they are fixed, and no postponement, change of venue, date or shift is entertained.
Participating Institutes
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited is a Schedule A Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, set up to build high capacity, high speed rail freight corridors along the golden quadrilateral and its diagonals. Its first phase is the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, which its own advertisement calls one of the biggest projects in the infrastructure sector.
The registered and corporate office is in New Delhi, with the corporate office moving to Noida, and there are field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla (Agra), Prayagraj East and West, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai North and South, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida.
DFCCIL recruits on its own account, not through the Railway Recruitment Boards, and pays on the IDA pattern rather than the 7th CPC matrix. A Junior Manager (Finance) at E2 works on project accounting, contracts and statutory compliance, which is what the Annexure-IV syllabus covers.
The grade in earlier notices
Advertisement No. 04/2021 recruited Junior Manager in Civil, Mechanical and Operations and Business Development among other disciplines, partly by interview, with separate interview schedules published for each. Advertisement No. 01/DR/2023 carried no Junior Manager post at all and recruited Executive and Junior Executive instead. So both the disciplines and the method change from cycle to cycle; the 2025 shape is not permanent.
Vacancies in any notice are provisional and may rise, fall or go to nil by post or community according to DFCCIL's requirements, and posts may be added later.
Exam Centres
Both stages are computer based tests at an allotted centre, followed by Document Verification and the medical at a DFCCIL venue. In this cycle the 1st Stage ran on 10 and 11 July 2025 and the 2nd Stage on 13 December 2025, with Junior Manager (Finance) in Shift 1: reporting at 07:30, the gate closing at 08:30 and the paper from 09:00 to 11:00. The city intimation notice gives those three times for each post and shift, and the gate shuts a full hour before the paper starts.
DFCCIL fixes the date, time and venue for every stage, and no request to postpone an activity or change a venue, date or shift is entertained.
What you may not carry in
The unfair practices list covers calculators, mobile phones switched on or switched off, Bluetooth devices, headphones, earplugs, laptops, iPads, digital diaries, digital watches, books or notes, metallic wear, bangles, belts, bracelets, spy cameras and any other electronic or communication device, along with textual material of any kind, handwritten or typed. Taking rough sheets out of the hall, leaving the venue without telling an invigilator, obstructing the examination, a forged admit card or identity proof, and weapons are all on the same list.
Important Dates
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 18 January 2025 | Online registration opens under Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025 |
| 16 February 2025 | Original closing date |
| 23 to 27 February 2025 | Correction window, as first notified |
| 22 March 2025, 23:45 hrs | Closing date for registration and fee payment, as extended |
| 10 and 11 July 2025 | 1st Stage CBT, for Junior Manager, Executive and MTS |
| 31 October 2025 | 1st Stage score card published |
| 13 December 2025 | 2nd Stage CBT |
| 17 February 2026 | 2nd Stage score card published |
| 19 February 2026 | Revised score card, after an error in the first one |
| 12 and 13 March 2026 | Physical Efficiency Test, for MTS |
| 22 April 2026 | Final score card for MTS |
The closing date moved twice, to 23 February and then by a notice of 21 February 2025 to 22 March, both announced on the DFCCIL website alone.
Tentative against actual
| Stage | Per the advertisement | Actual |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Stage CBT | April 2025 | 10 and 11 July 2025 |
| 2nd Stage CBT | August 2025 | 13 December 2025 |
| PET, for MTS | October or November 2025 | 12 and 13 March 2026 |
Every stage ran three to four months behind a schedule the advertisement calls tentative. Fifteen months passed between registration opening and the last score card.
Admit Card
The e-admit card is downloaded from a portal with your own credentials, and the link is live only for a stated window. DFCCIL tells shortlisted candidates to download it through a notice on its website and through the registered mobile number and email, which is why neither can be changed in the correction window: both have to be right at registration and working for the whole recruitment.
Carry the printed e-admit card, a valid photo ID and one coloured passport size photograph. Check the gate closing time printed on the city intimation notice rather than the start time of the paper. Your signature has to match across every document in the recruitment, so sign the way you signed the application form.
Notices for each stage appear under Open Market Recruitment, Active Notices, at dfccil.com.
Result
DFCCIL publishes no merit list or mark sheet in the open. After each CBT it issues a score card on a login-protected portal, announced by a notice under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com, and the link stays live for about a month. The 1st Stage card was available from 31 October to 30 November 2025 and the revised 2nd Stage card from 19 February to 17 March 2026. Download and save it while it is up.
The 2nd Stage card first went live on 17 February 2026, but a technical error stopped the data displaying correctly; DFCCIL reissued it on 19 February 2026 and told candidates to use the revised version only. The panel is built on the 2nd Stage marks alone, and there is no re-evaluation or re-checking of any stage.
Cut Off
DFCCIL publishes no cut-off marks for this recruitment; score cards go to candidates individually on a login portal at dfccil.com. The advertisement fixes only the floor:
| Category | Minimum qualifying marks |
|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 40 per cent |
| SC and OBC-NCL | 30 per cent |
| ST | 25 per cent |
Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates take their community's figure, and PwBD candidates get a further 2 per cent if there is a shortage. Clearing it earns nothing by itself; progress turns on merit position.
Preparation Tips
The first paper uses none of your qualification. It is Mathematics 30, Reasoning 30, General Awareness 15, General Science 15 and Railways and DFCCIL 10, at 54 seconds a question, and a CA or CMA who prepares only the profession never reaches the paper where the profession counts.
The second is your final course examined as multiple choice at about sixty seconds a question. The subject matter is familiar, the format is not, so practise it. Two named topics get skipped by candidates revising from institute material alone, because they are procedural rather than conceptual: E-Filing of Returns and Computer Application in Business.
Spend an afternoon on the corporation itself. Ten marks in the first paper come from Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL, and no competitive-exam book carries it. The DFCCIL website does.
Four wrong answers cancel a right one. In a professional paper, where you can usually knock out two options of four, that arithmetic favours attempting over leaving blank. There is no sectional cut-off either, so a strong professional half genuinely carries a weak general half, and the other way round.
Use the mock test link DFCCIL puts up before each CBT, on the real examination interface, and read the provisional answer key afterwards. In a tax or accounting paper where standards shift year to year, a genuine error is worth challenging while the objection window is open.
Things that cost candidatures rather than marks: registering twice for the same post, a date of birth that does not match the Matriculation certificate, an OBC-NCL certificate more than a year old at verification, a signature in a different style, and a mobile phone in the hall whether or not it is switched on.
Last, read what you would be joining. Posting anywhere in India, transfer at the Management's discretion, a service bond at joining, and two years of probation during which an employee can be discharged without a reason being given.
Sample Papers
No previous year question papers are available for this recruitment; nothing from either CBT is released afterwards. DFCCIL posts a mock test link before each CBT and a provisional answer key after it, under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com. Objections cost ₹100 a question, refunded less bank charges if upheld.

Frequently Asked Questions
What qualification do I need?
A pass in the final examination of CA or CMA, from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. Not a degree, and not the intermediate level.
What is the age limit?
18 to 30 years as on 1 July 2025. SC and ST get five years, OBC-NCL three, and PwBD candidates 10, 13 or 15 by community, with an overall ceiling of 56 years after all relaxations.
What is the exam pattern?
1st Stage CBT, 100 general questions in 90 minutes. 2nd Stage CBT, 120 questions in 120 minutes, split 24 general and 96 professional.
Is there an interview?
No. The stages are the two CBTs, then Document Verification and the medical. Advertisement No. 04/2021 did use interviews for Junior Manager posts; the 2025 notice does not.
Does the 1st Stage CBT count towards my rank?
No, it only screens. The panel is formed on the 2nd Stage marks alone.
Is there negative marking?
One fourth of a mark per wrong answer, in both papers. Four wrong cancel one right. The RRB figure of one third does not apply here.
Is there a sectional cut-off?
No. A candidate is judged on the aggregate of both parts.
What are the minimum qualifying marks?
UR and EWS 40 per cent, SC and OBC-NCL 30 per cent, ST 25 per cent, with 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates if there is a shortage. Clearing them confers no right to be shortlisted.
How many vacancies are there, and for whom?
Three: one UR and two OBC-NCL. No SC, ST, EWS, PwBD or ex-servicemen vacancy at this post in the 2025 notice, and a candidate whose category has none is treated as Unreserved.
How many candidates go through at each stage?
Twenty times the community-wise vacancies into the 2nd Stage CBT, and a number equal to the vacancies into Document Verification. Everyone on the same cut-off mark within a community is called.
Is there a waiting list?
No stand-by list or panel is kept. DFCCIL may go down the merit list on a shortfall, but treats that as its own prerogative.
Can persons with disabilities apply?
Yes, and this is the most broadly identified post in the notice: blindness and low vision, deafness and hard of hearing, a long locomotor list including cerebral palsy and leprosy cured, autism spectrum (mild), specific learning disability, mental illness, and multiple disabilities involving any of those. No PwBD vacancy is earmarked, though.
What is the application fee?
₹1,000 for UR, OBC-NCL and EWS. SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates pay nothing, whether or not the post is reserved for them. It is not refundable.
Can I object to an answer key?
Yes, online within the stated window, at ₹100 a question, refunded if the objection is upheld. There is no re-evaluation or re-checking.
Where will I be posted?
Anywhere in India, on any DFCCIL unit, station, project or office, and all posts are transferable at the Management's discretion.
