AIIMS BSc Nursing Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
136 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
AIIMS B.Sc Nursing is the entrance for the four-year B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing degree, run by the Examination Section of AIIMS New Delhi for itself and eighteen other AIIMS. It's one online paper of two hours, and admission rests entirely on that score. The 2026 session had 1,366 seats.
The course is open to women only, at every participating AIIMS, and living in the institute hostel is compulsory.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 30 marks each and general knowledge 10, so Biology is under a third of the paper. And the degree is cheap: tuition is ₹600 for all four years, and the whole published fee schedule comes to under ₹2,200, plus a refundable ₹1,000 hostel security and ₹700 a month for the mess.
Don't confuse it with AIIMS's B.Sc Nursing (Post-Basic): a two-year course with 50 seats at AIIMS New Delhi only, for registered nurses with a GNM diploma, with a 70-question written test and a 30-mark personal assessment, in English, in Delhi.

Exam Pattern
Online, two hours, 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks.
| Part | Subject | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| A | Physics | 30 |
| B | Chemistry | 30 |
| C | Biology | 30 |
| D | General Knowledge | 10 |
| Total | 100 | |
The paper is in English and Hindi. There's no sectional timing; you can move between parts freely.
Marking
| Response | Score |
|---|---|
| Correct | +1 |
| Incorrect | -1/3 |
| More than one option chosen | Treated as incorrect and negatively marked |
| Not answered, or marked for review without being saved | 0 |
A question marked for review counts as unanswered unless you also save it.
Syllabus
AIIMS doesn't prescribe one. The prospectus says the standard is 12th class under the 10+2 scheme of any Indian university or board, and that "no syllabus for examination has been prescribed by the Institute".
In practice the paper covers the 12th-class subjects you need to be eligible, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, at the level of any recognised Indian board. The CBSE senior secondary curriculum is one published statement of that level.
General Knowledge (10 marks) isn't described further by AIIMS.
Eligibility Criteria
Only women can apply for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing.
| Requirement | Condition |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Age | At least 17 by 31 December of the admission year. For 2026, anyone born on or after 2 January 2010 is not eligible. There is no upper age limit |
| Qualifying examination | 12th class under the 10+2 scheme, Senior School Certificate, Intermediate Science or equivalent from a recognised University or Board of any Indian State, with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| Marks | 55% in aggregate across those four subjects for General, OBC (non-creamy layer) and EWS; 50% for SC and ST |
The 55% is an aggregate of the four named subjects, English included, not your overall 12th-class percentage.
If you're sitting the 12th in March or April of the admission year, with the result due before 30 June, you can apply. You must show proof of passing with the required marks at seat allocation, or the candidature is cancelled.
Reservation
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| Other Backward Classes, non-creamy layer | 27% |
| Scheduled Caste | 15% |
| Scheduled Tribe | 7.5% |
| Economically Weaker Section | 10% |
| Persons with Benchmark Disability | 5%, horizontal, across the seats advertised |
OBC certificates must be in the DoP&T format, show non-creamy-layer status, be valid for a Central Government institution, and the caste must be on the Central List; a state list alone won't do. Unfilled SC seats go to ST and the reverse; unfilled reserved seats then go to the general category.
Selected candidates are examined by the institute's Medical Board. Anyone found unfit isn't admitted, and the Board's decision is final.
Selection Process
No interview and no second stage. Seats go strictly on entrance marks.
- Entrance exam. Two hours, 100 questions, online, in English and Hindi, on one day in all major cities.
- Result. Merit lists for General, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, SC and ST, plus the combined list that drives allocation.
- Online seat allocation, rounds one and two. Every qualified candidate is called. You fill your institute choices once and they stand for both rounds.
- Open round, with fresh choices and a deposit.
- Medical exam and joining, with biometric verification. The institute keeps your original certificates for the length of the course.
How reserved candidates get seats
Allocation runs down the combined merit list from rank 1, in the order General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST. A reserved-category candidate reached on that list is offered her choice in both unreserved and her own category; if both have it, she takes the unreserved seat. She takes a reserved seat only if her choice is left there and not in unreserved.
Open round and leaving
The open round needs a ₹25,000 security deposit, refunded after joining, subject to conditions. You can't enter it if you hold a seat from rounds one or two, or any B.Sc seat elsewhere. A student who leaves mid-course pays ₹5,000 in compensation.
How to Apply
Apply online only at aiimsexams.ac.in, in three steps: basic registration, code generation and final registration. All three must be done. Nothing can be edited after basic registration.

Three institutes have more seats than New Delhi. Of the 1,366, 55 are for persons with benchmark disability. By category: 564 unreserved, 366 OBC, 202 SC, 133 EWS and 101 ST.
The B.Sc Allied and Health Care courses (725 seats across 88 course-and-institute combinations) use a separate 90-minute paper on another date.
Exam Centres
The exam is held online in all major cities of India, on one day for every AIIMS: Saturday 27 June in 2026. (The Post-Basic test is in Delhi and NCR only, on 30 May; Allied and Health Care was on 4 July.)
Hostel residence is compulsory once admitted, so the city that matters is the institute you're allotted.
Important Dates
From the AIIMS B.Sc Courses Prospectus 2026. Admit card dates are tentative.
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Prospectus uploaded, online registration opens | 25 March 2026 |

Admit Card
Download it from aiimsexams.ac.in; nothing comes by post. For 2026 it was due on 19 June, eight days before the exam. The Post-Basic admit card was due on 25 May and the Allied and Health Care one on 27 June.
Notices go up on the site with an email and SMS alert, but the site is the record. Check it for corrigenda.
Result
The result goes up on aiimsexams.ac.in. AIIMS won't give results by phone.
There is no rechecking, and your marks are shown only after the admission process ends. Until then you know your rank and allocation, not your score.
Disputes fall under the High Court of Delhi.
Cut Off
Qualifying marks in the entrance
| Category | Qualifying marks | Out of 100 |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved and Economically Weaker Section | 50% | 50 |
| Other Backward Classes | 45% | 45 |
| Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe | 40% | 40 |
This only makes you eligible for allocation. Seats then go down the combined merit list from rank 1.
Ties
Same category, same total: higher Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics, then the older candidate.
AIIMS doesn't publish closing ranks for this entrance. It does post the vacant seat position by institute before the open round, on its notices page.
Preparation Tips
- Give the three sciences equal time. Each is 30 marks. If you were weakest in Physics in class 12, that's where the marks are. Biology still matters most in a tie.
- Don't guess blind. At minus a third with four options, a blind guess gains nothing on average. Once you can rule out an option, answer it.
- Save what you mark for review. Unsaved review questions score zero. Practise the habit in mocks.
- Use the two hours freely. 120 minutes for 100 questions with no sectional timer: do a first pass on the easy ones across all four parts, then come back.
- Practise from 12th-class question banks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology from any recognised board, since that's the standard AIIMS names.
- Check your eligibility before paying: the four-subject aggregate and the 2010 birth-date line.
- Order your 19 institutes before the result. Choices are filled once for rounds one and two.
Sample Papers
AIIMS publishes no previous papers, model paper or mock for the B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing entrance. Anything sold as an "AIIMS Nursing previous year paper" didn't come from AIIMS.
The prospectus, released around March on aiimsexams.ac.in, has the marks split, scoring rule and seat table.
