COMEDK UGET Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
COMEDK UGET is the entrance test for about 150 private engineering colleges in Karnataka, the members of KUPECA (Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association). It's run by COMEDK, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka, an autonomous merit determination authority of the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation, which has held a test every year since 2004-05.
It once served 16 medical, 24 dental and around 150 engineering colleges. Since NEET became the only route into medical and dental courses, it's engineering only.
In 2026 the exam ran online on Saturday 9 May at 400 centres across India, for around 20,000 seats, followed by online counselling.
COMEDK runs on the Supreme Court's "fair, transparent and non-exploitative" test from these judgments, and says the Court has cited it as the model examination:
- TMA Pai Foundation v. State of Karnataka, (2002) 8 SCC 481, eleven judges
- Islamic Academy of Education v. State of Karnataka, (2003) 6 SCC 697, five judges
- P.A. Inamdar v. State of Maharashtra, (2005) 6 SCC 537, seven judges
COMEDK judges merit and runs counselling. It has nothing to do with tuition fees, other fees or the seat sharing formula. comedk.org is the only official website.
One exam, two results
COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE E are one combined exam, same day, same session, same application and admit card.

COMEDK UGET Details
Exam Pattern
| Subject | Questions |
|---|---|
| Physics | 60 MCQ |
| Chemistry | 60 MCQ |
| Mathematics | 60 MCQ |
| Total | 180 questions, 180 marks |
- Computer based, English only.
- One mark per correct answer, no negative marking.
- Four options per question; you can review and change answers until you finish.
- Time spent on the instruction page doesn't count against your paper.
- Your session, slot and centre are on the Test Admission Ticket. COMEDK doesn't publish a single start time or duration, because the exam runs in several sessions.
Percentile, not raw marks
Different sessions get different question sets, so COMEDK normalises scores the way NTA and the IITs do. Rank is based on percentile: the percentage of candidates in your session who scored the same as or lower than you, normalised across sessions. A raw score out of 180 won't convert to a rank.
Tie-break
- Higher percentile in Physics and Mathematics together
- Higher percentile in Mathematics
- Higher percentile in Chemistry
- Age: the elder candidate ranks higher
Syllabus
The test follows the CBSE syllabus:
| Source | Approximate share of the paper |
|---|---|
| Class 11 syllabus | 33 per cent, approximately |
| Class 12 syllabus | 67 per cent, approximately |
A third of the paper is Class 11. COMEDK publishes separate syllabus documents for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics on the UGET 2026 page. There's no fourth subject.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can sit
Indian citizens, OCI and PIO candidates (OCI and PIO give a declaration from the brochure annexure). It's open to students from anywhere in India.
B.E. and B.Tech.
- 2nd PUC, 10+2 or equivalent, with Physics, Mathematics and English compulsory and one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science or Electronics.
- 45 per cent aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for General Merit; 40 per cent for SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka. Each subject passed individually, including all optional and additional subjects.
- All subjects from one board. Physics and Chemistry from CBSE with Mathematics from NIOS makes you ineligible.
- Diploma holders can't sit for B.E. or B.Tech. There's no lateral entry through COMEDK. They can apply for Architecture.
- Age and the year you passed 12th follow AICTE and VTU norms.
- Any attempt gets you a rank, except a score of zero.
Karnataka candidate
You count as Karnataka on either ground; otherwise you're Non-Karnataka:
- Belong to Karnataka by birth or domicile, with at least seven years of schooling between 1st standard and 2nd PUC or 12th as on 1 July of the test year, and passed SSLC or 2nd PUC (or equivalent) in Karnataka. Repeated years count as one.
- Of Karnataka origin, passed both 1st and 2nd PUC in Karnataka at a state-run or recognised institution, and a parent studied in a Karnataka institution for at least seven years.
It matters for the 40 per cent concession (Karnataka SC, ST and OBC only) and for the Kalyana Karnataka Region (KKR) seats under Article 371(J), which need the 371(J) certificate from the district's Assistant Commissioner.
Architecture
- No COMEDK test. Admission uses NATA 2025, NATA 2026 or JEE 2026 Paper 2A; B.Plan. needs JEE 2026 Paper 2B.
- 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics plus one of Chemistry, Biology, a Technical Vocational subject, Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics Practices, Engineering Graphics or Business Studies, at 45 per cent (40 for SC, ST, OBC); or a 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics at the same percentages.
- Separate registration and counselling notification.
Selection Process
- The combined COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE E exam, one day, several sessions.
- Provisional answer keys, a paid objection window, then final keys.
- Percentile normalisation and the rank card.
- Centralised online counselling, with its own registration.
Counselling
Registration costs ₹2,000, non-refundable, and you must be ready to pay the allotted college's total fee (tuition plus other fees) to COMEDK after allotment. The Counselling Process Document has the full rules.
- No limit on preferences. Add, change and reorder them as often as you like in the window, except a seat already allotted.
- Only saved preferences count.
- A blank choice form at the end of Round 1 ends your counselling: you're treated as Reject and Withdraw.
| Decision | What it means |
|---|---|
| Accept and Freeze | Take the seat and stop. The candidate reports to the college |
| Accept and Upgrade | Hold the seat but stay in the running for a higher preference in a later round |
| Reject and Upgrade | Give up the seat and stay in the running |
| Reject and Withdraw | Leave the process |
Choose Accept and Upgrade in Round 1, get no upgrade in the next round, and you're left with only Accept and Freeze.
Rounds
- A mock allotment before Round 1 shows where your list would land.
- Round 1: general.
- Round 2: KKR seats only, for KKR-approved candidates who filled choices in Round 1.
- Round 3: general merit again, for Round 1 candidates on Accept and Upgrade or Reject and Upgrade, Round 2 candidates on Reject and Upgrade, those not yet allotted, and supplementary candidates (their first choice filling).
- Round 4, after which cut-off ranks and vacant seats are published.
An already allotted seat shows in green; to upgrade, add preferences above it.
Supplementary candidates must register in the initial counselling period (there's no separate window) and upload the passed marks sheet before Round 3 starts.
Salary
This is an admission test, so there's no salary. These are the costs COMEDK handles:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Application, COMEDK UGET only | ₹1,950 plus transaction charges |
| Application, COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE E together | ₹3,200 plus transaction charges |
| Application, Uni-GAUGE E only | ₹1,600 plus transaction charges |
| Counselling registration | ₹2,000, non-refundable |
| Clarification on a provisional answer key | ₹500 each, refunded only to the extent the clarification is upheld, after the whole process completes |
| Total college fee | Tuition plus other fees, paid at COMEDK level after allotment, at rates COMEDK does not set |
The application fee isn't refunded, even if you have to file a fresh form to fix a mistake. COMEDK doesn't set college fees; it publishes seat availability and fee details before each round, college by college, on comedk.org.
How to Apply
Online only at comedk.org: register, get a login ID and password, fill the form, upload documents and pay online by debit card, credit card or net banking. Demand drafts aren't accepted or returned.
| What you apply for | Fee |
|---|---|
| COMEDK UGET only (PCM) | ₹1,950 plus transaction charges |
| Both COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE E | ₹3,200 plus transaction charges |
| Uni-GAUGE E only (PCM) | ₹1,600 plus transaction charges |
| Counselling registration, paid later | ₹2,000, non-refundable |
| Clarification on a provisional answer key | ₹500 per clarification plus convenience charges |
The application fee is non-refundable.
Editing
An edit window in April lets you fix the photograph, signature, category and academic details. You can't change your name, email, mobile number or test city, or anything entered at registration. If you've submitted with an error in those, the only fix is a new application with a different mobile and email, and the first fee isn't refunded.
Uploads
| Document | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Photograph of the candidate | Recent colour photograph, not more than three months old, light background, full face looking into the camera with forehead, eyes, nose and chin clearly visible, uploaded in vertical position, JPEG, under 160 KB |
| Signature of the candidate | Signed on white paper with a black or blue pen, scanned in vertical position, JPEG, maximum 80 KB |
| Signature of the parent or guardian | Same conditions, JPEG or PDF, maximum 160 KB |
| Unique ID proof of candidate or parent | JPEG or PDF, maximum 160 KB; a multi-page ID must be combined into a single image |
| SSLC or Class 10 marks card | JPEG or JPG, maximum 160 KB |
| KKR or HKR certificate | The 371(J) certificate issued by the Assistant Commissioner of the district, in the candidate's name, JPEG, maximum 160 KB |
| SC, ST or OBC certificate | In the candidate's name, issued by the Tahsildar, JPEG, maximum 160 KB |
| Karnataka domicile certificate | Required for candidates claiming KKR or HKR seats and for SC, ST or OBC candidates claiming the lower eligibility norms |
A smudged, tampered, hazy or more than three months old photograph gets the form rejected, and a mismatch at the centre disqualifies you.
Participating Institutes
- Around 150 engineering colleges, all KUPECA members and unaided private colleges in Karnataka, with around 20,000 seats in 2026-27.
- Architecture institutions, counselled separately on NATA or JEE Paper 2A.
- COMEDK still lists its 16 medical and 24 dental colleges but holds no test for them since NEET.
The Engineering Institutions, Architecture Institutions and Courses Offered lists are on comedk.org. Only courses offered by member colleges appear.
Each college has a code like E001, E019, E077, used in the seat matrix, cut-off files, vacant seat lists and allotment results. A cut-off is always quoted against a college code, a course code and a seat category.
Exam Centres
400 centres across India in 2026, in Karnataka and states from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to Odisha and Punjab, with several in Bengaluru. The city list is on the UGET 2026 page.
Centre and session are allotted by computer assisted randomisation and shown on your Test Admission Ticket. A city can have several centres. Requests to change city or slot aren't entertained, and the test city can't be edited.
On the day
- Entry strictly by the reporting time on your ticket, through a baggage area in small groups.
- Your photo is taken at the desk, and biometric verification may be required. CCTV runs throughout.
- You can't leave the room during the test for any reason.
- If your computer fails, you move to a buffer system and the lost time is credited.

Admit Card
The Test Admission Ticket is downloaded from your login only; nothing is posted. In 2026 it was available from 30 April 2026, 2:00 p.m. until exam day, 9 May 2026. One ticket covers both COMEDK and Uni-GAUGE.
It gives your centre, session and reporting time, and carries the photo you uploaded. A mismatched, hazy or over-three-months-old photograph means disqualification.
Bring the printed ticket, your original ID, two recent passport size colour photographs (mandatory), a transparent water bottle and a pencil. COMEDK's Things Allowed for Exam and Standard Operating Procedure documents are on the UGET 2026 page.
Result
Answer key objections
- Provisional keys come out with objections open the same day. Each clarification costs ₹500 plus charges (five cost ₹2,500).
- The COMEDK academic committee decides. You're refunded only for clarifications upheld, after the whole process ends.
- Nothing is entertained against the final keys, the score or the rank.
In 2026: objections 16 to 18 May, final keys 23 May, rank cards 29 May.
Rank card
Download it from your login on comedk.org; it's never sent by email, post or courier. Tampering with it bars you from any further COMEDK process. If you sat for both tests you get two documents: a COMEDK rank card with percentile and rank, and a Uni-GAUGE score card with scores only.
Cut Off
COMEDK publishes cut-off ranks after each allotment round, separately for Engineering and Architecture, as dated PDFs on comedk.org. Each gives the rank of the last candidate allotted for every college, course and seat category (such as GM, General Merit). To use a cut-off you need the year, the round, the college and the course and category.
| 2026 document | Notified on |
|---|---|
| Engineering cut-off ranks after Round 2 | 7 August 2026 |
| Engineering cut-off ranks after Round 4 (117 pages) | 1 September 2026 |
| Engineering vacant seats after Round 4 | 4 September 2026 |
| Architecture cut-off ranks after Round 3 | 2 September 2026 |
| Architecture cut-off ranks after Round 4 | 9 September 2026 |
| Architecture vacant seats after Round 4 | 9 September 2026 |
There's no qualifying mark: any attempt earns a rank unless you score zero.
Preparation Tips
- Give Class 11 a third of your time. About 33 per cent of the paper comes from it.
- Answer everything. No negative marking, and you can revisit answers before you submit.
- Aim at a rank, not a raw score. Your rank comes from a session percentile, so set your target from the published cut-off ranks for the colleges you want, and don't compare raw marks with friends in other sessions.
- Push Physics and Mathematics. They break ties first; Chemistry comes last.
- Use the eleven mock tests for the interface only. COMEDK says they don't reflect the real pattern or syllabus and show no score. Practise content on full 180-question timed papers on a computer: 60 per subject, one mark each, English only.
- Sort eligibility before applying: one board for all subjects, 45 per cent PCM, no diploma route for B.E. Check your name, email, mobile and test city before submitting.
- Note your answers so you can check the provisional key in its short objection window.
- Fill counselling choices generously, use the mock allotment, and decide what you'll do with each of the four options before Round 1 closes.
Sample Papers
COMEDK doesn't release past question papers. It does publish the provisional and final answer keys each May, and gives eleven mock tests in the candidate login from mid February, though those are for practising the interface, not the content.
The syllabus documents and the Information Brochure are on the UGET 2026 page.
