DFCCIL Executive Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
DFCCIL Executive is the diploma-entry technical grade at the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, recruited straight from the open market. It is an E0 post on the IDA pay scale of ₹30,000 to 1,20,000, medical standard A-3, open at 18 to 30 years as on 1 July 2025 to anyone holding a three year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline from a recognised University or Institute with not less than 60 per cent marks. The last notice, Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025, carried 175 vacancies.
| Discipline | Post code | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| Civil | 21 | 36 |
| Electrical | 22 | 64 |
| Signal and Telecommunication | 23 | 75 |
| Total | 175 | |
Two computer based tests decide it, and only the second one counts. The 1st Stage CBT is 100 general questions in 90 minutes and does nothing but shortlist. The 2nd Stage CBT is 120 questions in 120 minutes, of which 96 are the engineering syllabus of the discipline you applied for, and the panel is built on that paper alone. Multi-Tasking Staff in the same advertisement sits a second paper with no technical part at all.
Negative marking is one fourth of a mark for a wrong answer in both papers, not the one third RRB examinations use. For Executive there is no physical test and no interview: after the second CBT come Document Verification and a medical.

DFCCIL Executive Details
Exam Pattern
| Item | 1st Stage CBT | 2nd Stage CBT |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 100, one mark each | 120, one mark each |
| Duration | 90 minutes, 120 with a scribe | 120 minutes, 160 with a scribe |
| Composition | Mathematics and Numerical Ability 30, Logical Reasoning and General Intelligence 30, General Awareness 15, General Science 15, Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL 10 | Part-I, 24 questions on General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Reasoning; Part-II, 96 questions on the engineering syllabus of the discipline |
| Nature | Screening only | Decides the panel |
| Negative marking | One fourth of the marks allotted for each wrong answer | |
| Language | English and Hindi only. Where the two differ, the English version prevails | |
The paper is pitched at the educational standard prescribed for the post. The deduction is one fourth, not the one third most railway candidates carry in their heads, so four wrong answers cancel one right one. The 1st Stage distribution above is indicative and the real paper may vary a little.
Where a paper has more than one section there is no sectional cut-off, so an Executive candidate is judged on the aggregate of Part-I and Part-II. Scores are normalised on a percentile basis where a paper runs in more than one shift for the same post. A tie goes to the older candidate by date of birth, then to alphabetical order of name.
The answer key, and what an objection costs
Provisional answer keys go up on the DFCCIL website after each CBT. Objections are accepted online only, within the stated window, at ₹100 a question plus charges, and the fee comes back less bank charges if the objection is upheld. Letters and emails are not entertained, and there is no re-evaluation of any score.
A question found ambiguous, with no correct option or with more than one, is dropped from evaluation and your marks are scaled up in proportion before normalisation. If one question of a hundred goes, you are marked on 99 and scaled back to 100.
Syllabus
1st Stage CBT: no technical content at all
Mathematics and Numerical Ability 30, Logical Reasoning and General Intelligence 30, General Awareness 15, General Science 15, and Knowledge about Railways and DFCCIL 10.
That last block is ten marks no general competitive-exam book covers, and the corporation's own material is the source: a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, whose first phase is the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, with field units at Ambala, Meerut, Tundla, Prayagraj, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ajmer, Jaipur and Noida.
2nd Stage CBT, Part-I
24 questions on General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Reasoning, identical for all three disciplines. That is the whole of what Annexure-IV says about it.
2nd Stage CBT, Part-II, 96 questions by discipline
| Discipline | Syllabus as Annexure-IV states it |
|---|---|
| Civil, post code 21 | Engineering and Solid Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Building and Construction Materials, Concrete (MCC, RCC and PSC) and Steel Structures Design, Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics, Hydrology and Hydraulic Structures, Engineering Drawing, Estimation and Surveying |
| Electrical, post code 22 | Power Transmission and Distribution, Circuit Analysis and Control Systems, Machines, Electronics, Measurement, and the rest of the discipline |
| Signal and Telecommunication, post code 23 | Electronic Components and Materials, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Digital Electronics, Linear Integrated Circuits, Microprocessor and Microcontroller, Electronic Measurements, Communication Engineering, Data Communication and Network, Computer Programming, Basic Electrical Engineering |
The three lists are written very differently. Civil runs eleven named areas. The Electrical entry names five headings and then says "Rest etc", which is DFCCIL's own phrasing in the advertisement, so an electrical candidate has to read it as the standard diploma syllabus rather than a shortlist.
Eligibility Criteria
Diplomas accepted
| Discipline | Diploma |
|---|---|
| Civil | Civil Engineering, or Civil Engineering in Transportation, Construction Technology, Public Health or Water Resource |
| Electrical | Electrical, Electronics, Electrical and Electronics, Power Supply, Instrumentation and Control, Industrial Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Applied Electronics, Digital Electronics, Instrumentation, Power Electronics, Electronics and Control Systems |
| Signal and Telecommunication | Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electronics and Computer, Electronics and Control Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical and Communication, Rail System and Communication, Electrical, Electronics, Microelectronics, Telecommunication, Communication, Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control, Instrumentation Technology, Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Information Science and Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Microprocessor |
All must be from a recognised University or Institute with not less than 60 per cent marks. The Signal and Telecommunication list is the widest, and the only one reaching into computer science.
Age, as on 1 July 2025
18 to 30 years; MTS is 18 to 33.
| Category | Relaxation in the upper age |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwBD, unreserved | 10 years |
| PwBD, OBC-NCL | 13 years |
| PwBD, SC and ST | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen | Defence service rendered plus three years, with over six months service after attestation |
| Regular employees of DFCCIL | 8 years |
Stacked relaxations cannot take an applicant past 56. PwBD relaxation applies whether or not the post is reserved, provided the post is identified for that disability. Your date of birth must match the 10th certificate, the only document accepted for age.
Medical and PwBD suitability
All three disciplines are A-3. For disability they are identified narrowly: Civil for OA, Dw and AAV only, Electrical and Signal and Telecommunication for HH, OA, Dw and AAV only.
Reservation
| Discipline | UR | SC | ST | OBC-NCL | EWS | PwBD | ExSM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civil | 16 | 5 | 3 | 9 | 3 | 2 | 5 |
| Electrical | 28 | 11 | 5 | 14 | 6 | 3 | 9 |
| Signal and Telecommunication | 28 | 9 | 7 | 23 | 8 | 3 | 10 |
PwBD and ex-servicemen vacancies are horizontal, inside the totals, and a vacancy earmarked for a community goes only to a candidate of that community. An OBC-NCL certificate at DV must not be over a year old, or the candidate counts against UR only.
Selection Process
- 1st Stage CBT, 100 questions in 90 minutes. Screening only.
- 2nd Stage CBT, 120 questions in 120 minutes, of which 96 are technical. This forms the panel.
- Document Verification and Medical Test, for a number of candidates equal to the community-wise vacancies.
There is no Physical Efficiency Test and no aptitude test for Executive. The PET in this advertisement applies to Multi-Tasking Staff only, and there is no interview at any point.
Document Verification, with no safety net behind it
DFCCIL does not scrutinise applications for eligibility before DV, so every candidature is provisional until then. Qualification, age, caste and category are all checked there, and a claim the certificates do not support cancels the candidature. False information or deliberate suppression disqualifies the candidate, and the services can be terminated even after appointment.
Have in original: the 10th certificate and marksheet, the diploma certificate with all semester marksheets showing 60 per cent or more, caste or category certificates with the OBC-NCL one under a year old, and the undertakings for ex-servicemen or PwBD status where claimed. Nobody gets extra time to produce originals later, and where identity is in doubt or the information does not match, the candidate is not allowed to sit DV at all. Signatures must look the same on every document at every stage.
The panel
The panel is capped at the advertised vacancies, community-wise, and no stand-by list is kept. On a shortfall DFCCIL may go down the merit list, but that is its own decision and no candidate can ask for it. A candidate shortlisted on reservation stays against that community for every later stage.
Salary
Executive is E0, the entry executive grade, on an IDA pay scale of ₹30,000 to 1,20,000. DFCCIL is a PSU on the Industrial Dearness Allowance pattern, so a post carries a scale with a floor and a ceiling rather than a cell in the 7th CPC matrix: ₹30,000 is where an Executive starts and ₹1,20,000 is where the grade runs out. Junior Manager (Finance) in the same notice is E2 at ₹50,000 to 1,60,000, and Multi-Tasking Staff is N-1 at ₹16,000 to 45,000.
What comes with the pay
Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance on the IDA pattern, House Rent Allowance, and perks and allowances under the Cafeteria Approach, plus liberal medical facility, gratuity and leave encashment under the company's rules. Pay protection is granted to candidates already serving in PSUs or government organisations, under DPE guidelines, but not to ex-servicemen.
And the conditions attached
- Posting may be anywhere in India, at any DFCCIL unit, station, project or office, and all posts are transferable at the sole discretion of the Management.
- A service bond on DFCCIL's norms is executed at joining.
- Probation is two years, and confirmation depends on completing it including any prescribed test or training. An employee on probation may be discharged without a reason being given.
How to Apply
Applications are made online on the DFCCIL website only, in English, and no documents go by post. Registration starts with the post applied for, your name, a valid mobile number and a valid email ID, verified by OTP. The link appears under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com.
- Multiple registrations for the same post make the candidature liable to be cancelled or rejected without notice.
- A reserved-category candidate should check that a vacancy exists under their category; if it does not, they are considered as Unreserved.
- Registration counts as complete only when the fee is paid online on or before the last date.
- A correction window opens after the closing date, and even inside it the post applied for, post code, email ID and mobile number cannot be changed. For a diploma holder eligible for more than one discipline, the choice of post code 21, 22 or 23 is final at registration.
The fee
| Post and category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Junior Manager and Executive, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹1,000 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff, UR, OBC-NCL and EWS | ₹500 |
| SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates | Exempted, whether or not the post is reserved for them |
An exempted candidate still has to name the category in the form and upload the certificate. Payment is online only, by UPI, card or net banking, and the fee is not refunded. A non-exempted candidate who does not pay has an incomplete application and is rejected. A failed transaction returns to the paying account within 15 to 20 working days.
Participating Institutes
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited is a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways, building high capacity rail freight corridors along the golden quadrilateral and its diagonals. Its first phase is the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, and its corporate office is moving from New Delhi to Noida. It recruits on its own account, not through the Railway Recruitment Boards.
The posts in the 2025 notice
| Post | Level and IDA scale | Qualification | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Manager (Finance) | E2, ₹50,000 to 1,60,000 | Final examination of CA or CMA | 3 |
| Executive, three disciplines | E0, ₹30,000 to 1,20,000 | Three year diploma in the discipline, 60 per cent or more | 175 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | N-1, ₹16,000 to 45,000 | Matriculation plus a one year Act Apprenticeship or NCVT or SCVT ITI | 464 |
| Total | 642 | ||
The 2023 notice, Advertisement No. 01/DR/2023, recruited Executive across six disciplines: Civil 50, Electrical 30, Operations and Business Development 235, Finance 14, Human Resource 19 and Information Technology 6. It also took Junior Executive, a separate N-5 post at ₹25,000 to 68,000: Electrical 24, Signal and Telecommunication 148, Mechanical 9. Vacancies are provisional in every notice.
Exam Centres
Both papers are computer based and are scheduled post by post and shift by shift. In this cycle the 1st Stage ran on 10 and 11 July 2025, with Signal and Telecommunication in Shift 2 and Civil in Shift 3 on 10 July, and the 2nd Stage on 13 December 2025, with Electrical in Shift 1 and Signal and Telecommunication in Shift 2. Document Verification and the medical are held at a DFCCIL venue.
The city intimation notice gives the reporting time, the gate closing time and the examination time for each post and shift. In this cycle the gate closed an hour before the paper began. A request to change venue, date or shift is not entertained under any circumstances.
What you cannot carry in
A mobile phone counts whether it is switched on or switched off. Also barred: calculators, Bluetooth devices, headphones and earplugs, laptops, iPads, digital diaries, digital watches, books and notes, metallic wear, bangles, belts, bracelets, spy cameras, any other electronic or communication device, and textual material of any kind, handwritten or typed.
Taking rough sheets out of the hall, leaving the venue without telling an invigilator, intimidating invigilators or security staff, obstructing the examination, fabricated documents, a forged admit card or ID, damaging equipment and possession of weapons are all listed as unfair practices.
Important Dates

| 16 February 2025 | Original closing date |
| 21 February 2025 | Notice extending the closing date, first to 23 February and then to 22 March |
| 23 to 27 February 2025 | Correction window, as first notified |
| 22 March 2025, 23:45 hrs | Closing date for registration and fee payment, as extended |
| 10 and 11 July 2025 | 1st Stage CBT, for Junior Manager, Executive and MTS |
| 31 October 2025 | Score card for the 1st Stage CBT |

| 12 and 13 March 2026 | Physical Efficiency Test, for MTS |
| 22 April 2026 | Final score card for MTS |
The advertisement's own tentative schedule put the 1st Stage CBT in April 2025, the 2nd Stage in August 2025 and the PET in October or November 2025. Every stage ran about three months late and the cycle took fifteen months end to end. Both extensions were announced only on the DFCCIL website, and score card links close after a few weeks.
Admit Card
The e-admit card is downloaded from the DFCCIL recruitment portal with your own login, and the link is live only for a stated window. Candidates shortlisted for the 2nd Stage CBT are told through the website and through their registered mobile number and email, so both have to stay live for the whole recruitment. Neither can be changed in the correction window.
Links appear as dated notices under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com, usually a couple of weeks before each paper, after the city intimation notice and the mock test link.
Carry the printed e-admit card, a valid photo ID and one coloured passport size photograph, and check the gate closing time on the city intimation notice. Your signature must look the same on every document at every stage; a different style at the CBT or at Document Verification can get you rejected.
Result
The panel is formed on the 2nd Stage CBT alone. Marks, or normalised marks, in that paper decide it and the 1st Stage contributes nothing, so for an Executive candidate 96 technical questions out of 120 settle the outcome.
DFCCIL does not publish a merit list of names. It puts up a score card per stage on a login-protected portal, live for a few weeks, so download and save it. The 1st Stage card was open from 31 October to 30 November 2025. The 2nd Stage card went up on 17 February 2026, failed to display the data correctly, and was reissued as a Revised Score Card on 19 February with instructions to use only that version.
Score card and result notices appear under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com, roughly three to four months after each paper in this cycle. There is no re-evaluation or re-checking of any score.
Cut Off
DFCCIL has released no category-wise cut-off table for this recruitment. Each candidate sees only their own score on a login-protected portal, announced under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com a few months after each paper. What the advertisement fixes is the floor:
| Category | Minimum qualifying marks |
|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 40 per cent |
| SC and OBC-NCL | 30 per cent |
| ST | 25 per cent |
Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates take their community's figure, with a further 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage. Clearing it earns nothing by itself: twenty times the community-wise vacancies go to the 2nd Stage CBT, on the order of 3,500 against 175 Executive vacancies, then parity with the vacancies for Document Verification. All the compression happens on the second paper, which is 80 per cent technical.
Preparation Tips
Split your time the way the second paper is split, not the first. The 2nd Stage CBT is 24 general questions and 96 technical ones, and it is the only paper that forms the panel.
But you have to get there. The 1st Stage CBT has no technical content whatsoever, so a diploma holder who prepares only their subject never reaches the paper where the subject matters. Sixty of those hundred marks are maths and reasoning, and the clock allows 54 seconds a question. Practise to speed. Another ten are on Railways and DFCCIL, which no general book covers and the corporation's own pages do.
Read your own Part-II list closely, particularly on post code 22, where the electrical entry trails off into "Rest etc" after five headings. The whole diploma syllabus is in scope.
Things that cost people marks, or candidatures
- Four wrong answers cancel one right one. Milder than the RRB penalty, which changes when a considered guess pays, especially in the technical part where two options can often be ruled out.
- No sectional cut-off, so play to your strength across all 120 questions.
- Choose your post code once. It cannot be changed even in the correction window. Weigh the vacancies: Signal and Telecommunication 75, Electrical 64, Civil 36.
- Take the mock test DFCCIL puts up before each CBT; it runs on the real examination interface. Then check the provisional answer key, because in a technical paper of 96 questions a genuine error is worth the ₹100, which comes back if you are right.
- Do not register twice for the same post, keep your date of birth matching the Matriculation certificate, get a fresh OBC-NCL certificate, sign the same way every time, and leave your phone outside the hall even switched off.
And read what you are signing up to: posting anywhere in India, transfer at the Management's discretion, a service bond at joining, and two years of probation.
Sample Papers
No previous year question papers are available for this recruitment; DFCCIL has never released one. Before each CBT it posts a mock test link on the live interface, and after it provisional answer keys with an objection window, both under Open Market Recruitment at dfccil.com. Older cycles move to Archived Notices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is DFCCIL Executive?
The entry executive grade at the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Schedule A PSU under the Ministry of Railways. Level E0, IDA scale ₹30,000 to 1,20,000. Advertisement No. 01/DR/2025 carried 175 vacancies across three disciplines.
What qualification do I need?
A three year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline from a recognised University or Institute, with not less than 60 per cent marks. Each discipline has its own list of accepted diplomas, and the Signal and Telecommunication list is the widest.
What is the age limit?
18 to 30 as on 1 July 2025. SC and ST get 5 years, OBC-NCL 3, PwBD candidates 10, 13 or 15 by community. Nobody can exceed 56 even with every relaxation.
What is the exam pattern?
1st Stage CBT: 100 questions in 90 minutes, entirely general. 2nd Stage CBT: 120 questions in 120 minutes, 24 general and 96 technical.
Does the 1st Stage CBT count towards my rank?
No. It is screening only, used to shortlist for the 2nd Stage CBT. The panel is formed on the 2nd Stage CBT alone.
Is there negative marking?
Yes, one fourth of a mark per wrong answer, so four wrong answers cancel one right one. Not the one third RRB uses.
Is there a sectional cut-off?
No. Where a paper has more than one section there is no sectional cut-off.
Is there a physical test or an interview?
Neither. The stages are the two CBTs, Document Verification and the medical. The PET in this advertisement applies only to Multi-Tasking Staff.
What are the minimum qualifying marks?
UR and EWS 40 per cent, SC and OBC-NCL 30, ST 25, with 2 per cent relaxation for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage. Clearing them confers no right to be shortlisted.
How many candidates go through at each stage?
Twenty times the community-wise vacancies to the 2nd Stage CBT, then a number equal to the vacancies to Document Verification and the panel. Everyone on the same cut-off marks within a community is called. There is no stand-by list.
Can I change my discipline after applying?
No. The post applied for, post code, email ID and mobile number are all outside the correction window, so pick your post code at registration.
Can persons with disabilities apply?
Only within a narrow list. Executive (Civil) is identified for OA, Dw and AAV only, and Electrical and Signal and Telecommunication for HH, OA, Dw and AAV only. PwBD age relaxation applies only where the post is identified for that disability.
Can I object to an answer key?
Yes, online and within the stated window, at ₹100 a question, refunded if the objection is upheld. Letters and emails are not entertained, and there is no re-evaluation.
What is the application fee?
₹1,000 for Executive in UR, OBC-NCL and EWS. SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and transgender candidates are exempted whether or not the post is reserved for them. It is not refundable.
Where will I be posted, and what happens after I join?
Anywhere in India, and all posts are transferable at the Management's discretion. A service bond is executed at joining and probation is two years, during which an employee can be discharged without a reason. Pay protection applies to candidates coming from PSUs or government organisations, but not to ex-servicemen.
How long did the last cycle take?
Fifteen months. Registration opened 18 January 2025 and closed 22 March after two extensions, the 1st Stage CBT was on 10 and 11 July 2025, the 2nd Stage on 13 December 2025 and the revised score card on 19 February 2026.
