ESIC UDC Eligibility, Important Dates and Practice Questions
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Upper Division Clerk is a Group 'C' clerical post in the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
ESIC doesn't hold an exam for UDC and publishes no notification for it. Its Group 'C' posts are filled through common exams run by other bodies, chiefly the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination run by AIIMS New Delhi. ESIC appoints whoever that exam sends it.
The proof is ESIC's own Regional Office Mumbai notice of 09-09-2026, which cancels the candidature of a Junior Medical Laboratory Technologist selected through AIIMS CRE-2025 (AIIMS notice dated 11.07.2025).
When we checked the ESIC Recruitments page on 11 September 2026, every entry was a medical, teaching, contractual or empanelment notice, or a project engagement (25 posts in its ICT Project Management Unit). None was for a clerical post. So there's no ESIC vacancy count, pattern or cut-off for UDC; any you see elsewhere has no ESIC document behind it.

ESIC UDC Details
Eligibility Criteria
ESIC publishes no age limit, qualification, fee or relaxations for UDC. They're printed in the notice of the body that conducts the exam, usually the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination.
One rule is on record: a selected candidate who declines the allotted post has the candidature cancelled, and ESIC says no further communication will be entertained.
Selection Process
ESIC has no written exam, skill test or interview of its own for UDC. You sit the conducting body's exam (the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination for Group 'C' posts), opt for posts and institutions there, and are allotted to ESIC on that result. ESIC then issues the appointment, or cancels the candidature if you decline.
What ESIC does recruit itself, hospital by hospital and mostly by walk-in interview, is medical and academic staff: Senior Residents, Teaching Faculty, Tutors and Contractual Doctors, plus project engagements and empanelments.
Participating Institutes
ESIC was set up under the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948. It runs the contributory social security scheme for organised-sector workers (sickness, maternity, disablement and dependants' benefits) and its own hospitals, dispensaries and medical colleges, which is why most of what it advertises is medical.
A UDC works on records, correspondence, noting and drafting in ESIC's headquarters, regional, sub-regional and branch offices.
Important Dates
There are no ESIC dates for UDC. Application, exam and result dates are in the conducting body's notice on the AIIMS recruitment portal.
If ESIC ever recruits to the post directly, the notification will appear on its ESIC Recruitments page, which is updated daily.
Preparation Tips
- Prepare for the conducting body's exam, not an "ESIC UDC exam". Read the CRE notice for the pattern, marking and syllabus once it is live.
- Cover the usual Group 'C' core: reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English or Hindi.
- Know the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948 and the benefits ESIC pays. It's the job's subject matter.
- Choose posts and institutions carefully when you apply. Declining an allotment ends your candidature.
