CUET PG Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates
110 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
CUET (PG), the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate programmes, is run by the National Testing Agency for the Ministry of Education and the UGC. It's the entrance route to PG programmes at the Central Universities and a growing list of state, deemed and private universities, institutes and autonomous colleges. It has run since 2022.
You can take up to four question paper codes, each a subject paper of 75 questions in 90 minutes. In 2026 there were 157 subjects over 50 shifts.
It's big. In 2026, 4,11,366 people registered and 3,45,220 sat at least one paper. Counted by paper, that was 7,14,621 registrations and 5,04,301 sittings, about 1.7 papers per candidate.
NTA runs the test and declares an NTA Score. The universities do everything after that: their own counselling, eligibility, quotas, age rules and reservation. A score on its own doesn't get you a seat, and NTA says plainly that the list of participating universities is dynamic.
The 2026 cycle is over: registration from 14 December 2025 to 14 January 2026, exams on seventeen dates from 6 to 30 March, result on 24 April. CUET (PG) 2027 hasn't been notified; last time registration opened in mid-December, on exams.nta.nic.in/cuet-pg.

CUET PG Details
Exam Pattern
| Mode | Computer Based Test |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Questions | 75 per paper |
| Marking | +4 correct, −1 wrong, 0 unanswered or marked for review |
| Total | 300 marks |
| Papers per candidate | Up to four |
That's 72 seconds a question: tighter than CMAT's 108, looser than SNAP's 60. If a question is dropped, everyone who sat the paper gets the full 4 marks.
Medium
| Paper type | Medium |
|---|---|
| Humanities, Sciences and Common Subjects | English and Hindi |
| M.Tech and Higher Sciences | English only |
| Language papers | The language itself |
| Linguistics | English only |
| Acharya papers | Sanskrit; Hindu Studies in English and Hindi; Indian Knowledge System and Baudha Darshan in English, Hindi and Sanskrit |
Except for language papers, if the English and Hindi versions differ, the English one counts.
PwBD candidates get 20 minutes per hour extra, so 30 minutes on this paper. Papers held in several shifts are normalised into an NTA Score by percentile; single-shift papers are scored on raw marks.
Syllabus
There isn't one syllabus. Each question paper code is a subject with its own syllabus on the CUET (PG) syllabus page. NTA asked candidates in 2026 to use the syllabus currently on that page, since they get revised.
The 157 subjects cover humanities, sciences, commerce and management, computer science, law, education, agriculture, M.Tech-level engineering, languages and the Sanskrit Acharya papers.
Pick codes by what the university accepts, not by name. The Information Bulletin has an appendix mapping each code to the programmes it's used for. Read it alongside the admission page of the university you want: a subject that sounds right may not be the code that programme takes.
Eligibility Criteria
To sit CUET (PG) you need a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or be in the final year of one in the exam year. NTA sets no age limit.
Admission is another matter. Each university applies its own rules on eligibility, quota, category, relaxation, age, reservation, qualification and subject combinations. You can be eligible for the test and ineligible for the programme you sat it for, so check each university's site before applying. Sitting the test doesn't entitle you to be considered for admission.
Reservation: OBC-NCL, Gen-EWS, SC and ST candidates are covered under Government of India rules, but each participating university applies its own policy. NTA has no role in it.
PwBD: the bulletin follows the RPwD Act 2016 and the Office Memoranda of 29 August 2018 and 10 August 2022. A scribe you bring must be one step below your qualification, with the prescribed undertaking.
An admit card doesn't mean you're eligible; that's checked later. One mobile number and email can be used for only one application. Sitting more than one shift on false information gets your candidature cancelled.
Selection Process
- Apply online, choosing up to four paper codes and two exam cities.
- Sit each paper on the date and shift on your admit card.
- Check your recorded responses and the provisional keys, and challenge if needed.
- Get your NTA Score from the website or DigiLocker.
- NTA shares scores with the participating universities.
- Each university runs its own counselling.
Answer key challenges
Provisional keys are up for two to three days. A challenge costs ₹200 per question, non-refundable, through the online link only, and needs justification or evidence. Experts review them and NTA publishes final keys. It doesn't tell you individually how your challenge went. In 2026 the window ran from 11 to 14 April. After the result, no key grievance is heard and there's no re-checking.
There's no re-test if you miss your date, for any reason.
The 2026 rescheduled exam
534 candidates in Tura, Meghalaya, where local disturbances hit the exam, and 31 at overseas centres sat a rescheduled exam on 29 and 30 March 2026 in 28 subjects, on papers set in advance to equivalent difficulty. NTA marked them on actual marks without normalisation: the group was too small and spread over 28 subjects for a statistical comparison with the main cohort to mean anything. Its clarification of 14 June 2026 published the marks to show there was no unusual advantage.
Salary
CUET (PG) is an entrance test, so there's no salary. The application fee depends on how many papers you take:
| Category | Up to two papers | Each extra paper | Four papers |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | ₹1,400 | ₹700 | ₹2,800 |
| Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL | ₹1,200 | ₹600 | ₹2,400 |
| SC, ST and Third Gender | ₹1,100 | ₹600 | ₹2,300 |
| PwD and PwBD | ₹1,000 | ₹600 | ₹2,200 |
| Centres outside India, any category | ₹7,000 | ₹3,500 | ₹14,000 |
Pay online by net banking, card or UPI; bank charges and GST are extra. Universities charge their own admission and programme fees on top. Placement records, where they exist, are published by each university or department.

Participating Institutes
The Central Universities, plus state, deemed and private universities, institutions, organisations and autonomous colleges that opt in. The list changes from year to year; check exams.nta.nic.in/cuet-pg for the current one.
Each university sets programme eligibility, quotas, age rules and reservation, and runs its own counselling. NTA's part ends at registering, testing, publishing keys and results, and sharing scores. The score is valid for that academic year only.
Exam Centres
CUET (PG) is computer based, at centres in cities listed in the bulletin, including some outside India (flat ₹7,000 fee). You choose two cities from the state or UT of your permanent or present address; foreign candidates choose from the appendix on the same basis. NTA may allot another city or merge small ones, and its decision is final.
In 2026 the exam ran on 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 27, 29 and 30 March.
- Report about 90 minutes before the start.
- No admit card and photo ID, no entry.
- Check the subject on screen matches your admit card; tell the invigilator at once if not.
- Sit only in your allotted seat. Moving can cancel your candidature.

Admit Card
The e-Admit Card is issued provisionally on exams.nta.nic.in/cuet-pg, in batches by exam date. It isn't posted or emailed and no alert is sent, so check the site. An advance city intimation comes a few days earlier. The card fixes your centre, date, shift and subject; you can't sit any other shift.
If anything on it doesn't match your Confirmation Page, call 011-40759000 (10:00 to 17:00) and still appear with the card you downloaded. Carry a photo ID with it. No duplicates are issued at the centre.
Result
The 2026 result came out on 24 April 2026 (result notice of 24 April 2026), and score cards went on DigiLocker from 29 April. Nothing is posted.

Cut Off
NTA doesn't publish a cut-off for CUET (PG). It gives an NTA Score out of 300 for each paper, and every participating university sets its own admission cut-off for each programme.
Those appear on each university's admission or counselling page, after NTA's result, which came out on 24 April in 2026. Check the university you want; the participating list is on exams.nta.nic.in/cuet-pg.
Preparation Tips
- Pick the right codes first. Match each code to the programme at the university you want, using the bulletin appendix. The choice is final after the correction window.
- Two papers are covered by the base fee. A second paper that opens different programmes costs nothing extra.
- Use the current syllabus from the syllabus page, not last year's copy.
- Study for recall. 72 seconds a question on your own subject leaves no time to work things out from scratch. Practise full 90-minute papers, not section drills.
- Guess only after eliminating an option. With +4 and −1, a blind guess among four is about break-even.
- Know your paper's language. M.Tech, Higher Sciences and Linguistics are English only, and English is final where versions differ.
- Get the photo and signature right before submitting.
- Challenge a key only with a source. Unsupported challenges are ignored.
- List your universities early and check each one's eligibility and age rules while you prepare.
NTA's free National Testing Abhyas app and the CBT guidelines and exam replica in the bulletin help with the on-screen format.
Sample Papers
NTA doesn't keep a public archive of past CUET (PG) papers. What it does publish: after each exam, every candidate can see their own question paper with recorded responses and the provisional key during the challenge window, announced by public notice (the 2026 answer key notice came out on 11 April). Download yours then; it's up for only a few days.
The bulletin also has an exam replica and CBT guidelines, and the per-subject syllabus is on the syllabus page.
