Delhi Police Constable Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
81 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Delhi Police Constable is the recruitment for Constable (Executive), male and female, in Delhi Police. The Staff Selection Commission runs it for Delhi Police, so the notice, admit cards and results are on ssc.gov.in, not the Delhi Police site.
It's open at class 12 level. The requirement that trips people up most: men need a valid LMV driving licence by the time of the physical test.

| Numerical Ability | 15 | 15 |
| Computer Fundamentals | 10 | 10 |

Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT): qualifying
No marks; it only eliminates. Run the race first. If you clear it, you get three chances each at the long jump and then the high jump.
| Age | Race, 1600 m | Long jump | High jump |
|---|---|---|---|
| Male candidates | |||
| Up to 30 years | 6 minutes | 14 feet | 3 feet 9 inches |
| Above 30 to 40 years | 7 minutes | 13 feet | 3 feet 6 inches |
| Above 40 years | 8 minutes | 12 feet | 3 feet 3 inches |
| Female candidates | |||
| Up to 30 years | 8 minutes | 10 feet | 3 feet |
| Above 30 to 40 years | 9 minutes | 9 feet | 2 feet 9 inches |
| Above 40 years | 10 minutes | 8 feet | 2 feet 6 inches |
There's no appeal against failing the race, long jump or high jump.
Measurements, taken after the endurance test
| Male | Female | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum height | 170 cm | 157 cm |
| Relaxation for hill areas and Scheduled Tribe candidates | 5 cm | 2 cm |
| Chest | 81 cm, with 4 cm expansion (81 to 85 cm) | not applicable |
The hill-area relaxation needs a certificate from the DC, DM, SDM or Tehsildar of where you live, in the format annexed to the notice, produced at the measurement test.
Medical examination and document verification
To the standards prescribed for Delhi Police.
Syllabus
General Knowledge & Current Affairs
The largest section at 50 marks. Current events of national and international importance, India and its neighbouring countries, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity and the Constitution, general science, sports, awards and books. Questions test everyday awareness, not specialist study.
Reasoning
Analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, and statement conclusion.
Numerical Ability
Number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationship between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentage, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, and time and work.
Computer Fundamentals
Word processing: basics, opening and closing documents, text creation, formatting and printing. Spreadsheets: elements, cells, functions and formulae. Email: basics, sending and receiving messages. Internet: web browsing, search engines, downloading and uploading, managing an email account, and e-banking.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
Class 12 (senior secondary) or equivalent from a recognised board.
Driving licence
Men must hold a valid LMV (motorcycle or car) driving licence on the date of the PE&MT, not the closing date of the application. A learner licence isn't accepted. There's no waiver. Women don't need one.
Age
18 to 25 years on the date the notice fixes (1 July 2025 for the 2025 exam), with the usual relaxations: 5 years for SC and ST, 3 for OBC, and the prescribed relaxations for ex-servicemen, departmental candidates and other categories including, in some cycles, widows and divorced women.
Physical standards
Check the height and chest figures under Exam Pattern against yourself before you apply; they can't be trained.
Selection Process
- Computer Based Test: 100 marks, 90 minutes. This makes the merit list.
- PE&MT and document verification, run by Delhi Police in Delhi. About 12 times the vacancies are called, category by category.
- Medical examination.
The written test decides selection. The physical and medical stages only remove candidates.
Salary
| Post | Pay Level | Pay range | Classification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Constable (Executive), male and female | Level 3 | ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 | Group C |
That's 7th Pay Commission basic pay. Dearness, house rent and transport allowances are added, plus the allowances of a uniformed force. House rent allowance is at the top city rate, as the posting is Delhi.
How to Apply
Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, OBC, EWS | ₹100 |
| Women, of every category | nil |
| SC, ST, Ex-servicemen eligible for reservation | nil |
Online only: BHIM UPI, net banking, or a Visa, Mastercard, Maestro or RuPay debit card. No challan. PwBD candidates aren't on this notice's exemption list.
How to apply
Create your One Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in, with photo and signature, then apply from it. The same OTR works for every SSC exam. The fee deadline is a day after the form deadline. The paid correction window that follows is only for fixing details, not for new applications.
- A working mobile number and email. Scribe OTPs and admission certificate alerts go there.
- Photo and signature in the specified size.
- Matriculation certificate for date of birth, and a category certificate if you claim reservation. A false claim gets you debarred.
NCC bonus
NCC C, B and A certificate holders get 5%, 3% or 2% of the maximum marks. Here you claim it by producing the original certificate at the PE&MT or document verification. That's different from SSC's Constable (GD) exam, where it's declared in the form.
Participating Institutes
One employer: Delhi Police, under the Ministry of Home Affairs. SSC only runs the computer based test.
Delhi Police handles the scheme of examination, vacancies, the PE&MT, document verification and the medical. Complaints about the PE&MT or document verification go to the Delhi Police Recruitment Board, not SSC.
Vacancies are split by gender, category and sub-category, with separate blocks for ex-servicemen and departmental candidates. The notice calls them tentative; the result write-up gives the final numbers.
Exam Centres
You choose your centres in the application from the notice's list. They're grouped under SSC's nine regional offices, and all your choices must be in one region.
| Region | States and union territories covered |
|---|---|
| Central (CR) | Bihar, Uttar Pradesh |
| Eastern (ER) | West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andaman & Nicobar, Sikkim |
| Karnataka Kerala (KKR) | Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep |
| Madhya Pradesh (MPR) | Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh |
| North Eastern (NER) | Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh |
| Northern (NR) | Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand |
| North Western (NWR) | Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh |
| Southern (SR) | Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana |
| Western (WR) | Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu |
That regional office handles your queries. Allotment follows your preference where there's room.
Only the written test is at an SSC centre. The PE&MT, document verification and medical are held by Delhi Police, in Delhi only, after the CBT result.
Important Dates
The last cycle, from the 2025 notice:
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Notice published | 22 September 2025 |
| Online applications | 22 September to 21 October 2025 (23:00) |
| Last date for online fee payment | 22 October 2025 (23:00) |
| Correction window | 29 to 31 October 2025 |
| Computer Based Test | 18 December 2025 to 6 January 2026 |
| CBT result, shortlist for PE&MT | 19 June 2026 |
The next notice will be on ssc.gov.in; check SSC's annual exam calendar there for the expected month.
Admit Card
For the written test, SSC issues an Admission Certificate through the regional office whose centres you chose. The exam city is published a few days before the certificate.
- Take the printed Admission Certificate.
- Take the original photo ID whose number you gave in the application, showing the date of birth printed on the certificate: voter ID, driving licence, PAN card, passport, a university, college or school ID, a government or PSU employer ID, or an ex-serviceman discharge book. No date of birth on it, no entry.
- Two passport photos, if the certificate asks for them.
With a scribe, enter the scribe's OTR number on the portal once the certificate is live and key in the OTP sent to the scribe's phone. It can't be done at the centre.
Admit cards for the PE&MT come from Delhi Police, on delhipolice.gov.in.
Result
The CBT runs in several shifts, so marks are normalised under SSC's procedure of 2 June 2025, and the normalised score is what counts.
A tentative answer key goes up on SSC's answer key page after the exam. Challenges cost ₹50 per question, non-refundable, online only. The final key and your marks are published after the result.
Ties are broken by Part A marks, then Part B marks, then age (older first), then alphabetical order of name.
The CBT result is a shortlist for the PE&MT, published on ssc.gov.in with a write-up. Selection still depends on the PE&MT, medical and document verification.
Cut Off
To be considered for the PE&MT you need at least these normalised marks out of 100 (without NCC bonus), per the 2025 notice:
| Category | Minimum marks |
|---|---|
| Unreserved | 35 |
| SC, ST, OBC and EWS | 30 |
| Ex-servicemen | 25 |
The real cut-off is the score of the last candidate shortlisted, and it's much higher. SSC publishes it with the result, per gender, category and sub-category, along with that candidate's Part A and Part B marks. In the 2025 result write-up, the last male candidate shortlisted in the Open UR and OBC categories scored 70.05181.
Part A, General Knowledge, is the first tie-break, so at the cut-off it usually decides who gets through.
Preparation Tips
- Get the driving licence first. Men need a full LMV licence at the physical stage, and it takes time to get. Every cycle loses people who passed the written test to this.
- General Knowledge is half the paper: 50 marks, more than the other three sections together. Read current affairs every day.
- Take the ten computer marks. The syllabus is small (word processing, spreadsheets, email and internet basics) and can be covered in a few hours.
- Numerical Ability is only 15 marks. Don't spend months on it.
- Train for the race while you study. 1600 m in 6 minutes (men under 30) or 8 minutes (women under 30) needs weeks of running.
- Take SSC's mock test once before the exam, to get used to the interface.
Sample Papers
No previous year papers are available from SSC as of now; it doesn't publish them.
After each exam, SSC posts the tentative answer key with your own response sheet on its answer key page for a short window. Download yours then and keep it for three years, as the notice advises. A mock test on the real interface is linked on ssc.gov.in before each exam.
