What happens to the pattern if the aperture distribution is a rectangular function?
Answer: D
The transform of a rectangle is a sinc, so a uniformly excited aperture gives the familiar narrow main lobe with side lobes 13.2 decibels down. A Gaussian distribution would give a Gaussian pattern with no side lobes but is not physically realisable in finite length. Uniform radiation over all angles would need a point source, and lobe splitting requires antiphase regions in the aperture. The transform pair is worth remembering because it is the reference case for every taper.
