What is the chief advantage of an offset fed reflector geometry?
Answer: B
Moving the feed out of the reflected beam eliminates both the blockage loss and the strut scattering, giving higher efficiency and much lower side lobes, which is why domestic satellite dishes are almost universally offset. The costs are a harder surface to make, a bulkier mount and a cross polarisation penalty from the asymmetry. Bandwidth is set by the feed, and polarisation by the feed as well. The geometry is a good example of an electrical gain bought with mechanical complexity.
