Babinet gives slot impedance as \( Z_{s} = \eta^{2}/4Z_{d} \). What is it for a dipole impedance of 73 ohms?
Answer: D
Taking the intrinsic impedance of free space as 377 ohms:
\[ Z_{s} = \tfrac{377^{2}}{4 \times 73} \approx 486 \]
giving about 486 ohms, which is why a centre fed half wave slot is a high impedance load and is usually fed off centre to bring it down. The relation converts every known dipole result into a slot result at once, which is the practical value of a duality theorem and the reason slots need almost no separate theory of their own.
