Arrange the steps used in planning of meals by using food exchange list :
(a) Use the food exchanges for planning menu.
(b) Distribute the above food exchanges between meals.
(c) Estimate the amount of different food exchanges that provide required energy and protein (Food Exchange Plan).
(d) Record personal data for determining RDA.
Codes :
Answer: D
The steps in planning meals with a food exchange list run (d), (c), (b), (a).
First record the personal data from which the recommended allowance is found (d). Next estimate how many exchanges of each food group give the energy and protein needed, which is the food exchange plan (c). Then distribute those exchanges among the meals of the day (b), and finally use the exchanges to plan the menu (a). A plan that starts from the menu or the distribution has no basis, because the amounts are not yet known. The same logic applies to every food exchange plan: you cannot say how many exchanges to give each meal until you know the total exchanges for the day, and you cannot know the total until you know the person's energy and protein needs.
