Which physical air mass does the dry intrusion consist of?
Answer: C
The dry intrusion is air descending from near the tropopause, carrying high potential vorticity and very low humidity, and its arrival above the surface baroclinic zone is a key step in rapid development. Tracing it in water vapour imagery is standard operational practice. Cold maritime air behind the front is a different and much shallower feature.
