According to Tyler Ralph W. what are the organizing structural elements of learning experience ?
(i) Specific subjects
(ii) Broad fields
(iii) Core curriculum
(iv) Syllabus
(v) Course modules
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
Answer: A
The structural elements are (i), (ii) and (iii) only: specific subjects, broad fields and the core curriculum.
In Basic Principles of Curriculum and Instruction (1949), Ralph Tyler distinguished levels of organising structure. At the largest level the structure may be specific subjects, broad fields (such as social studies), a core curriculum, or a completely undifferentiated structure. Courses, units and lessons are the smaller levels within these.
A syllabus is a document listing content, not an organising structure in Tyler's sense, and 'course modules' is not one of Tyler's categories. Options including (iv) or (v) are therefore wrong.
