What is the purpose of a diode in series with a battery in a charging circuit?
Answer: D
The diode blocks current flowing back out of the battery when the charger is switched off or its voltage falls, which protects the source and stops the battery discharging into it. Regulation, current limiting and indication all need other components. Whenever two sources are connected together, something must decide which way current may flow, and a diode is the simplest device that does.
