Discussion
Arrange the consequences of a fuselage stretch on tail sizing in causal order:
1. The tail arm increases
2. The fuselage is lengthened by plugs
3. The tail volume coefficient rises at constant area
4. The tail may be left unchanged or even reduced
Select the correct sequence.
Answer: C
Length buys arm, arm buys tail volume, and the surplus volume is what lets the original tail stand. It is the cheapest outcome a stretch can have, though the aft centre of gravity movement sometimes spends the surplus again.
