T.S. Eliot's first play was ............. .
Answer: D
Eliot's first play was Sweeney Agonistes.
Eliot wrote the two fragments of Sweeney Agonistes, subtitled 'Fragments of an Aristophanic Melodrama', in the mid-1920s; they appeared in The Criterion in 1926-27 and as a book in 1932. It was his first attempt at verse drama, using jazz rhythms and music-hall speech.
The other three came later. Murder in the Cathedral (1935) was his first full-length play, The Family Reunion followed in 1939 and The Cocktail Party in 1949. A candidate who thinks only of complete plays will pick Murder in the Cathedral, which is the trap.
