The stress level below which a material has a high probability of not failing under reversal of stress is known as:
Answer: B
The stress level is the endurance limit.
Under repeated or reversed loading, a material can fail at a stress well below its static strength, a fatigue failure. The endurance limit (fatigue limit) is the stress amplitude below which the material can withstand an effectively unlimited number of reversals without failing. For steel it is roughly half the ultimate strength.
The elastic limit and the proportional limit are points on a single static stress-strain curve and say nothing about repeated loading. 'Tolerance limit' is not a standard term for this property.
