Terminal velocity of falling 9 mm gun projectile is about
Answer: C
The terminal velocity of a falling 9 mm gun projectile is about 219 feet per second, the figure given in the standard texts and in the official key. It is the speed at which air drag balances the weight of the bullet as it falls back.
The other options of 170, 190 and 235 ft/sec do not match the textbook value. The speed is far below the muzzle velocity, which is why a falling bullet is much less dangerous.
The low terminal velocity explains why bullets fired in the air cause fewer deaths than direct fire.
The figure is far lower than the speed of a bullet leaving the gun.
