Which of the following is NOT a valid reason for adopting a double-bubble fuselage section?
Answer: D
Correct answer: It lowers the pressure differential the shell must carry
The differential is set by the cabin altitude and the cruise altitude, and no choice of section changes it. A double-bubble carries exactly the same differential as a circle would.
The other three are the real reasons for adopting it: a wider cabin without a very deep section, each lobe still working in membrane tension rather than bending, and the floor beam tying the lobes together to carry the outward pull where they meet.
