The ideal orientation of a kitchen is east.
An east-facing kitchen gets the morning sun when most cooking is done, giving natural light and helping dry and freshen the room, and it stays cooler in the afternoon when the sun is in the west. Indian house-planning guides therefore recommend the east or south-east for the kitchen.
A south or south-west kitchen receives the hot afternoon sun and becomes uncomfortably warm, and a north-facing kitchen gets little direct sunlight.
