Which of the following types of soil are mostly confined to river basins and coastal plains of India?
Answer: A
Alluvial soils are confined to river basins and coastal plains.
They are transported soils, laid down by rivers rather than formed in place, and cover about 40 per cent of India's area - the whole Indo-Gangetic plain and the deltas. Rich in potash and lime but poor in nitrogen and humus, they are the most productive soils in the country.
