Mahatma Gandhi launched the Satyagraha movement in 1919. Which of the following was the correct reason ?
(a) It was a protest against the British government for its failure to introduce promised reforms at the end of the war.
(b) It was a protest against the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar.
(c) It was a protest against the Rowlatt Act.
(d) It was a protest against communal awards.

Answer: B
The correct reason is only (c), the Rowlatt Act.
In 1919 the government passed the Rowlatt Act, which allowed detention without trial. Gandhi called a nationwide hartal and satyagraha against it in April 1919, his first all-India movement.
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 13 April 1919 took place during the protests against the Rowlatt Act, so it could not have been the reason for launching them. The Communal Award was announced in 1932, and disappointment with the post-war reforms was part of the background but not the declared target, so the codes with (b) or (d) are wrong.
