XLAT instruction in assembly is used to :
Answer: B
XLAT is used to perform character conversions.
XLAT (translate) on the 8086 replaces the byte in AL with the byte found in a lookup table at address BX + AL: AL is used as an index into a table whose start is in BX. It is used for code conversion, for example converting a character from one code to another or a digit to its seven-segment pattern, one byte at a time.
It is not a string instruction (those are MOVS, CMPS, SCAS, LODS and STOS) and does not process a whole string. Performance is not its purpose, and 'none of the above' is wrong because its purpose is listed.
