In the field of nuclear strategy what does MAD stand for ?
Answer: D
In nuclear strategy MAD stands for Mutually Assured Destruction, the doctrine of the Cold War under which each superpower could, even after being struck first, destroy the other, so that neither would start a nuclear war. The acronym was coined as a pun on the word 'mad', which also describes the logic of threatening mutual ruin. The other options, 'Missiles Are Dangerous', 'Mammals Are Doomed' and 'Make America Die', are made-up expansions. The answer is option D.
