Discussion
Arrange these events leading to aileron reversal at high speed:
1. An aileron is deflected downward on the outer wing
2. The load twists the wing's leading edge downward
3. Local incidence over the outer wing falls
4. The lift lost from the twist exceeds the lift gained from the aileron
5. The aeroplane rolls the wrong way
Select the correct sequence.
Answer: B
The whole chain depends on the wing's torsional stiffness and on the dynamic pressure. Locking out the outboard ailerons above a certain speed breaks the sequence at its first step and leaves roll to the inboard surfaces and spoilers.
