Discussion
Consider the following statements about fatigue loading on a transport:
1. The pressurisation cycle occurs once per flight.
2. The ground-air-ground cycle reverses the wing bending once per flight.
3. A single ultimate load application dominates the fatigue damage.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: D
The first two are correct and are the two largest contributors to the spectrum. The third confuses the two disciplines: fatigue is driven by the accumulation of many cycles, not by one extreme event, which is what static strength analysis addresses.
