What is a circular patch antenna's dominant mode?
Answer: C
The dominant mode of a circular disc has a single azimuthal variation and a radial distribution given by a Bessel function, and it radiates a broadside pattern much like the rectangular patch. Higher order modes give patterns with nulls or with conical shapes and are used deliberately in some designs. A uniform field would not radiate, and a purely radial mode gives the conical monopole like pattern of the higher order case. Modes are what a cavity model gives you to work with.
