How many members of the Rajya Sabha are nominated by the President ?
Answer: C
The President nominates 12 members of the Rajya Sabha.
Under Article 80(1)(a) and 80(3) of the Constitution, the President nominates 12 members to the Rajya Sabha from among persons with special knowledge or practical experience in literature, science, art and social service. The rest of the House, up to 238 members, is elected by the state and union territory legislatures, for a maximum strength of 250.
The other numbers are not in the Constitution. Fourteen and fifteen are too many, and thirteen is one more than the twelve the article allows.
