Consider the following statements about open piled wave screens.
1. They attenuate short period waves while passing longer ones.
2. They allow good water exchange through the structure.
3. They provide complete shelter in exposed ocean conditions.
Answer: D
The first two are correct and define their proper application. The third overstates them considerably, since long swell passes almost unimpeded. They are a partial barrier by design. Short period energy is what they are meant to stop.
