When Sample Registration System (SRS) was initiated on pilot basis by the Registrar General of India ?
Answer: C
The Sample Registration System was started on a pilot basis in 1964-65.
The Registrar General of India launched the scheme as a dual-record system, with continuous enumeration by a resident part-time enumerator and an independent half-yearly survey, to give reliable annual estimates of birth and death rates. The pilot phase ran from 1964-65 and the scheme became fully operational in 1969-70.
1962-63 and 1963-64 are too early, since the design was still being worked out, and 1965-66 is after the pilot had already begun.
