The Silkyara Bend-Barkot tunnel on the Char Dham road project in Uttarkashi district is about 4.531 km long. By crossing under the ridge between the Bhagirathi and Yamuna valleys, it is expected to cut the road distance between Gangotri and Yamunotri by about 20 km. It became widely known after the collapse of November 2023, when 41 workers were rescued after 17 days.
