Arrange the following in the correct order of the preparatory processes for cotton fabric :
I. Scouring II. Mercerization
III. Bleaching IV. Singeing
Codes :
Answer: C
The correct order of the preparatory processes for cotton is singeing, scouring, bleaching and mercerization.
Singeing removes the protruding fibres. Scouring takes out waxes and impurities, bleaching whitens the cloth, and mercerization with caustic soda is done afterwards to add lustre and dye affinity.
The other orders place mercerization before scouring or bleaching, or scouring before singeing, which is not the usual sequence.
