The needle and the graver are the hand tools for cutting lines in a metal plate, in drypoint, etching and engraving, the rocker is the toothed tool used to roughen a plate for mezzotint, and the levigator is the heavy flat tool used to grind and grain a lithographic stone. The metal plate tools thus come first and the rocker and the stone grinder later. Options A, C and D arrange the same four tools in other orders, which the key does not accept.
