How many States and Union Territories were established by the 1956, State Restructuring Act ?
Answer: A
The States Reorganisation Act of 1956 established 14 States and 6 Union Territories.
On 1 November 1956 the Act reorganised the country, largely on linguistic lines, into 14 States (Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Bombay, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal) and 6 Union Territories (Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Laccadive, Minicoy and Amindivi Islands, Manipur and Tripura).
The larger numbers in the other options belong to later reorganisations.
