What is the term of non-permanent members of the Security Council ?
Answer: C
Non-permanent members serve for 2 years.
Under Article 23(2) of the UN Charter, the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council are elected by the General Assembly for terms of two years, five being elected each year, and a retiring member is not eligible for immediate re-election. India has served several such two-year terms, most recently in 2021-22.
The five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States) have no term at all, so 1, 3 and 5 years are all wrong.
