Which one of the following State was not a Nation State in the 17th century ?
Answer: B
Germany was not a nation state in the seventeenth century: it was a collection of many states under the Holy Roman Empire and was unified only in 1871. The answer is option B.
France, England and Spain had consolidated monarchies with defined territories by then, so they are counted as nation states.
Unification came in 1871 under Prussia, after the wars with Denmark, Austria and France, which shows how late the German nation state was formed.
