Correct answer: It is a type of conversation that takes place on a computer network in real time

Chat is live typed conversation: what one person types appears on the other's screen at once. A discussion area where messages are posted and read later is a forum, and uploading files is FTP.

Answer: C

Correct answer: https

A URL breaks into recognisable parts, and https before the colon is the scheme or protocol - it says how the resource is to be fetched. The rest divides as follows. www is a subdomain, a conventional but entirely optional label. example.com is the domain name, of which .com is the top-level domain. /page.html is the path to the resource on that server. A URL may also carry a port after a colon, a query string after a question mark, and a fragment after a hash - the fragment being handled by the browser alone and never sent to the server. Other schemes exist besides http and https: ftp for file transfer, mailto for an email address, and file for a local file. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator.

Answer: D

Correct answer: Transferring data from a remote server to your own device

Downloading is transferring data from a remote computer to your own; uploading is the reverse. The direction is defined from the user’s point of view. The distinction matters practically because most consumer connections are asymmetric: download speeds are far higher than upload speeds, on the reasoning that people consume more than they publish. That is why sending a large attachment or backing up to the cloud takes disproportionately long, and why video calls, which need upload capacity, suffer on a connection that downloads perfectly well. The terms come from the era of mainframes, where a central machine was thought of as being above the terminals attached to it - data came down from it and went up to it. Streaming is a particular kind of downloading in which the content is played as it arrives rather than stored complete before use.

Answer: A

Correct answer: F9 keys

F9 updates the selected field, and a formula in a table is a field, so pressing F9 recalculates it. Alt + F9 shows or hides field codes instead.

Answer: C

Correct answer: POP3

POP3 downloads messages from the server to the client, whereas SMTP is used to send mail outward. The two work together: SMTP delivers a message to the recipient’s server and POP3 or IMAP fetches it from there.

Answer: A

Correct answer: To store copies of recently visited page resources for faster reloading

The cache keeps images, stylesheets and scripts on disk so a revisited page need not fetch them again. This is why clearing the cache can fix a page that appears to be displaying an outdated version.

Answer: D

Correct answer: 443

HTTPS listens on port 443, while plain HTTP uses port 80. The separate port lets a server offer both, and a browser assumes 443 whenever an address begins with https.
