BTSC Pharmacist Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
136 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Pharmacists for the Bihar Health Department's hospitals and health centres are recruited by the Bihar Technical Service Commission, 19 Harding Road, Patna. The last round, Advertisement No. 22/2025, was the Commission's biggest paramedical recruitment that year: 2,473 posts, with applications from 11 March to 8 April 2025.
You must hold a D.Pharm. The advertisement says B.Pharm and M.Pharm holders must also have passed the diploma. A pharmacy graduate without it can't apply. AIIMS works the other way, accepting a higher degree with registration.
Merit is out of 100: your test percentage times 0.75 (so 60% gives 45), plus up to 25 for contract service as a Pharmacist in a Bihar government or other public hospital, 5 marks a year. No interview.
The result (Notice No. 1674) of 15 June 2026 filled only 872 of the 2,473 posts. The unreserved cut-off was 30.5625, just above the 30 a candidate gets for scoring exactly the 40% minimum. Every qualified reserved candidate was selected, and 643 of 767 women's posts were carried forward.

BTSC Pharmacist Details
Exam Pattern
| Mode | Computer based test, several shifts |
| Questions and marks | 100 objective questions, 100 marks |
| Time | 2 hours for the whole paper |
| Language | Hindi and English |
| Level | D.Pharm |
| Marking | +1 right, −0.25 wrong |
Scores are normalised across shifts, then multiplied by 0.75. That's why the 30.5625 cut-off isn't 30.5% in the paper: it's a little over 40% plus a sliver of experience.
Syllabus
BTSC didn't write its own syllabus for this post. Its Pharmacist syllabus is the Pharmacy Council of India's Diploma in Pharmacy syllabus under the Education Regulations, 2020 (ER-2020), all 78 pages. So the paper is set at the national D.Pharm standard, from the same document you studied.
| Part | Theory courses |
|---|---|
| Part I | Pharmaceutics; Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Pharmacognosy; Human Anatomy and Physiology; Social Pharmacy |
| Part II | Pharmacology; Community Pharmacy and Management; Biochemistry and Clinical Pathology; Pharmacotherapeutics; Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy; Pharmacy Law and Ethics |
Eleven theory courses, 825 teaching hours, 600 practical hours and 500 hours of practical training. ER-2020 cut theory courses from twelve to eleven, raised practicals from nine to ten compared with the 1991 regulations, and added Pharmacotherapeutics and Social Pharmacy.
B.Pharm and M.Pharm holders sit the same diploma-level paper.
Eligibility Criteria
Any Indian citizen may apply. Only permanent residents of Bihar, going by the address in the form, get reservation.
Qualification
- 10+2 in science.
- A Diploma in Pharmacy from a government-recognised institution, all three parts passed, with the certificate. A B.Pharm or M.Pharm doesn't replace it.
- Bihar Pharmacy Council registration, but see below.
Clause 6(iv) originally demanded the registration certificate. On the Health Department's advice, Notice No. 1189 of 13 April 2025 deleted it, accepted a pending application to the Council as proof instead, and reopened the window for three days. Older copies of the advertisement still show the old condition.
Age on 1 August 2024
| Category | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Unreserved men | 37 |
| Unreserved women; BC and EBC, men and women | 40 |
| SC and ST, men and women | 42 |
Minimum 18, date of birth as on the matriculation certificate. One relaxation only: 10 years for disability, 5 for Bihar government staff with three years' regular service, or the length of your contract service as a Pharmacist.
Reservation
SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS and Women of Backward Classes, with 35% of each for women (where vacancies allow) and 2% for freedom fighters' grandchildren on a central pension, certified by the District Magistrate. Transgender candidates are treated as Backward Class.
BC and EBC claims need a Bihar non-creamy-layer certificate, in the father's name for women. Your category is locked once you register, and anything not claimed in the form is lost.
Selection Process
- Computer based test; percentage × 0.75.
- Category minimum (below). Miss it and nothing else counts.
- Experience marks for those who qualify.
- Merit list by category out of 100. Ties go to the older candidate.
- Document verification.
| Category | Minimum in the test |
|---|---|
| General | 40% |
| Backward Class | 36.5% |
| Extremely Backward Class | 34% |
| SC, ST, women, persons with disabilities | 32% |
These come from the Bihar resolutions of 16 July 2007 and 22 January 2021.
Experience marks
5 a year as a Pharmacist on contract, up to 25, in a Bihar government hospital or institution, or a non-private hospital under the central government, a panchayati raj body or an urban local body. Part-years: working days × 5 ÷ 365. The certificate has to follow the advertisement's Appendix-1 format, signed by the Civil Surgeon or the head of the medical college, hospital or institution. Any other format gets you nothing.
Some candidates are held back at verification. A July 2026 notice recommended more from that group, so missing the first list isn't always final.
Salary
| Employer | Health Department, Government of Bihar |
| Pay scale (unrevised) | ₹5,200 to ₹20,200, Grade Pay ₹2,800 |
| Current structure | Pay Level 5 |
Same level as Bihar's other diploma paramedical posts. Tutor (Nursing), by comparison, is Level 8 with grade pay ₹4,800. State allowances for Level 5 apply; the advertisement doesn't list them.
How to Apply
Online only at btsc.bihar.gov.in; fee by card, net banking or UPI, plus bank charges.
| Who | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, BC, EBC, EWS, and all applicants from outside Bihar | ₹600 |
| SC, ST and women who are permanent residents of Bihar | ₹150 |
| Persons with disabilities | ₹150 |
Pay the reduced fee without the certificate to back it and your candidature is cancelled.
Upload: matriculation certificate, 10+2 science marksheet and certificate, marksheets for all three D.Pharm parts with the certificate, caste or EWS certificate, permanent residence certificate, and the Appendix-1 experience certificate if you're claiming experience. The Council registration certificate isn't needed under Notice No. 1189, though a future advertisement could bring it back.

Exam Centres
Centres and shift are on your admit card; nothing is fixed in advance or promised near home. Check btsc.bihar.gov.in for notices. Where you're posted later is up to the Health Department and has nothing to do with your exam city.
Important Dates
BTSC advertises when the Health Department sends a requisition; there's no yearly calendar. The last round:
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Applications | 11 March to 8 April 2025 |
| Registration requirement dropped, window reopened for three days | 13 April 2025 |
| Age counted on | 1 August 2024 |
| Result | 15 June 2026 |
| Further recommendations from held candidates | July 2026 |
It took fifteen months from advertisement to result. Dresser opened the same day, 11 March 2025. Look for the next advertisement on the Recruitments page.
Admit Card
Get it from Admit Card / Call Letter on the BTSC site; it shows your shift, which matters for normalisation. Scores later go up on the Score Card page, and key or result challenges go through the Objection Portal for advertisement 22/2025 in the announced window.
Result
The result (Notice No. 1674) came out on 15 June 2026. For each category it lists vacancies, the women's 35% share, women selected, total selected and the cut-off, then what was carried forward.
- Cut-offs are out of the combined 100, not the test.
- Ties went to the older candidate; the result says so, the advertisement doesn't.
- Unfilled EWS seats went to unreserved candidates on merit, shown as EWS-UR.
A further notice in July 2026 recommended candidates who'd been on hold. Later notices appear under Important Notices.
Cut Off
Category minimums are under Selection Process. Closing marks from the 15 June 2026 result, out of 100:
| Category | Vacancies | Selected | Cut-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved | 904 | 624 | 30.5625 |
| EWS | 226 | 37, of whom 32 as EWS-UR | Every eligible candidate selected |
| Scheduled Caste | 458 | 32 | Every eligible candidate selected |
| Scheduled Tribe | 29 | 5 | Every eligible candidate selected |
| Extremely Backward Class | 495 | 116 | Every eligible candidate selected |
| Backward Class | 273 | 58 | Every eligible candidate selected |
| Women of Backward Classes | 88 | 0 | No selection |
| Total | 2,473 | 872 |
A bare 40% gives 30 merit marks, so the last unreserved selection was 0.5625 above the floor. That's about forty-one days of contract service.
Carried forward: 643 of 767 women's posts (192 of 316 unreserved, and every reserved one: 79 EWS, 127 SC, 8 ST, 142 EBC, 95 BC; all 124 women selected came through the unreserved list); 88 of 91 disability posts (two selected for low vision, one locomotor); all 46 freedom-fighter and all 88 Women of Backward Classes posts. Operation Theatre Assistant (685 of 1,683) and X-Ray Technician (648 of 1,240) ran short the same way.
Preparation Tips
- Confirm you have a D.Pharm first. Nothing else matters without it.
- Study the ER-2020 syllabus itself. Spend extra time on Pharmacotherapeutics and Social Pharmacy, which older notes miss, and on Pharmacy Law and Ethics, which covers the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
- Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy and Community Pharmacy describe the job these posts are for.
- Get your experience certificate right. Last time six weeks of service decided the final unreserved place.
- Reserved candidates: clear your minimum. Last cycle that was enough. Unreserved candidates needed a little over 40%.
- Attempt every question you can narrow down. A wrong answer costs only a quarter, and there's no sectional clock.
- Keep checking notices. Last time the registration rule was dropped after closing, and held candidates were recommended months after the result.
Sample Papers
No previous or model papers are available. BTSC doesn't publish them for this post, so a "BTSC Pharmacist previous paper" on sale elsewhere isn't official.
