HSSC Forester Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
106 topics across 3 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Forester is a Forest Department post in Haryana. The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) fills it from candidates who have already cleared the Group C Common Eligibility Test (CET). The latest advertisement is Advt. No. 02/2026, published on 9 January 2026, for 50 posts (Group 1, category 1).
It replaced Advt. No. 4/2024, which had 65 Forester posts. The Commission withdrew those on 2 July 2025 so they could be advertised again after CET-2025. By June 2026 the selection had reached the Physical Measurement Test. No written test date was on the HSSC site when this was checked in October 2026.

Syllabus
The paper is set at the Common Higher Secondary level (10+2). It covers general awareness including Haryana history and current affairs, general intelligence, computer basics (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, email), and the subject-related part that carries most of the marks. The full topic list for Group 01 is in Appendix C of the advertisement and on the HSSC Syllabus page.
Eligibility Criteria
- Qualification: 10+2 in any stream (Arts, Science or Commerce), provided the candidate passed Matric with Science or General Science as a subject. Hindi or Sanskrit must have been a subject in Matric or higher education.
- Age: 18 to 42 years. Haryana residents in the reserved categories, PwBD and ex-servicemen get relaxation under state rules, up to a ceiling of 52 years.

| Physical standard | Male | Female |

| Height | 168 cm | 155 cm |

| Race (walk) | 25 km within 4 hours | 14 km within 4 hours |
Selection Process
Candidates apply on the strength of their CET score, and the Commission takes the best-scoring ones forward, up to ten times the number of posts for the written or skill test. For this post it called many more people for the PMT: 25 times the posts in the first list, then a further 10 times. After that come the walking test and the written test. The notice does not say in what order the later stages run, so check the HSSC notices.
Final merit comes from the written test marks. A candidate needs 50 percent in the written test, or 40 percent in a reserved category.
Salary
The post is listed at pay level FPL-5 in Haryana's pay matrix. The advertisement gives the level and not a rupee figure.
How to Apply
Applications were taken online through a link on the HSSC site, using the CET registration number. No fee was charged. Candidates who had applied under Advt. No. 4/2024 had to apply again. The window closed on 15 February 2026. A new advertisement will carry its own link and dates, posted on the HSSC Advertisements page.
