HSSC Group D Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
HSSC runs the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for Group D posts in Haryana government departments, boards and corporations. The CET score is the whole selection: there is no interview and no second exam. Posts are advertised later, and candidates apply for the ones they want using their CET registration number.
The current round is Advt. No. 05/2026, published on 18 June 2026. The exam date has not been announced, and none was on the HSSC site in October 2026. The previous Group D CET, held on 12 January 2024, is valid till 11 January 2027.

HSSC Group D Details
Exam Pattern
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Questions | 100 multiple choice, 100 marks |
| Time | 1 hour 45 minutes |
| Mode | Offline, OMR sheet, English and Hindi |
| Wrong answer | No negative marking |
| Question left blank | Minus 1, unless the fifth circle is filled |
| Qualifying marks | 50 percent general, 40 percent reserved categories |
Candidates who passed the January 2024 CET have their marks, out of 95, converted to a percentage for the combined merit list.
Syllabus
The paper is at Matriculation level. Seventy-five percent covers general awareness (India's history, polity, art and culture, geography, general science), reasoning, quantitative ability, English and Hindi. The other 25 percent is Haryana: history, literature, geography, economy, polity, environment, culture and current affairs.
Quantitative ability runs from percentages, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest and time and work to mensuration, basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Full list in Appendix D of the advertisement.
Eligibility Criteria
- Qualification: Matric from a recognised board, with Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject up to Matric. Posts that need less than Matric (sweeper, chowkidar) are filled outside the CET.
- Age: 18 to 42 years on the closing date. Relaxation for Haryana residents in the reserved categories, PwBD and ex-servicemen follows state instructions of 25 March 2022.
- Reservation: only Haryana residents get reserved-category benefits. Others compete as general candidates. BCA, BCB and EWS certificates had to be issued on or after 1 April 2026.
Selection Process
HSSC ranks candidates by CET marks alone, then publishes the merit list with waiting lists by category. When a department sends vacancies, HSSC advertises them and CET-qualified candidates apply online with their registration number. Documents are checked at scrutiny. Equal marks are settled by age, with the older candidate first.
How to Apply
Registration was on the state's one-time registration portal. The standard rate under the CET policy is Rs 1,000, with concessions that vary by category and gender, and the fee is not refunded. Anyone who applied for the Group C CET (Advt. 1/2025) did not have to pay again. A person who registered earlier keeps the same CET registration number. The exact fee table is in Appendix B of the advertisement.

Result
The CET result and cut-off for Advt. No. 05/2026 are not out. HSSC published the result for the additional Group D posts under Advt. No. 1/2023 on 3 June and 26 June 2026. Watch the HSSC Results page.
Preparation Tips
Matric-level maths and Haryana general knowledge are where candidates lose or gain a lot. Read up on Haryana history, districts, rivers, culture and state schemes, since a quarter of the paper is Haryana. Because a blank answer costs a mark, mark the fifth circle only when you really cannot choose.
