ISRO Technician Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
114 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
ISRO recruits ITI-qualified tradespeople as Technician 'B', a Level 3 post starting at ₹21,700 basic. Like other technical posts below the scientist grade, it has no central exam: each ISRO centre advertises its own trade vacancies and runs a written test and a skill test.
In 2026 Technician 'B' vacancies came from ISTRAC in Bengaluru (9 posts, test held 25 September), LPSC at Valiamala and Bengaluru (10 posts, applications closed 4 September) and IPRC at Mahendragiri (13 posts, applications open until 24 October 2026).

ISRO Technician Details
Exam Pattern
Written test: 80 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes. One mark per correct answer, 0.33 deducted per wrong one. You pass with 32 (UR) or 24 (reserved posts).
Skill test: a practical test in your trade for 100 marks. You need 50 (UR) or 40 (reserved), but the marks don't count towards selection.
IPRC prints its Technician paper in Tamil, Hindi and English.
Syllabus
Both tests are curriculum based: they follow the ITI syllabus of your trade. No centre publishes anything more detailed.
Eligibility Criteria
SSLC/SSC (Class 10) pass, plus an ITI certificate in the advertised trade: NTC or NAC from NCVT. Only those who have already passed may apply.
Age 18 to 35 on the advertisement's closing date. Relaxation of 5 years for SC and ST and 3 years for OBC applies only to posts reserved for those categories. Ex-servicemen, PwBD candidates, departmental candidates, meritorious sportspersons and widowed, divorced or judicially separated women get relaxation under Government of India orders.
Selection Process
The written test merit list decides who takes the skill test, five per vacancy with a minimum of ten. Pass the skill test, and your written marks alone decide your place on the final list.
Ties are broken on your ITI marks. At ISTRAC, if that still leaves a tie, a candidate with an NAC score is preferred over one without.
ISTRAC screens applications on academic record before calling people to the CBT, so not every applicant gets a test.
Salary
Level 3 of the pay matrix, ₹21,700 to ₹69,100, plus DA and admissible allowances. ISRO offers limited quarters instead of HRA and free transport at some centres instead of Transport Allowance. NPS or UPS pension, medical cover, canteen and LTC are provided. Technicians are promoted under ISRO's Merit Promotion Scheme.
How to Apply
Apply online through each centre's link on the ISRO Careers page. The fee is ₹500 for every applicant. If you sit the written test, ₹400 is refunded, or the full ₹500 for women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates. Apply separately for each trade.
Keep your NCVT certificate and marks ready to upload. Employees of government bodies need an NOC by the skill test.

Exam Centres
ISTRAC tests in Bengaluru and other cities, with the skill test in Bengaluru. LPSC tests only in Thiruvananthapuram. IPRC holds a pen-and-paper OMR test in Tirunelveli or Chennai, your choice fixed at the time of applying.
Important Dates
- IPRC: apply by 24 October 2026, 5 pm; pay the fee by 29 October. The written test date comes later.
- LPSC: applications ran 18 August to 4 September 2026. Test date awaited.
- ISTRAC: applications ran 27 June to 20 July 2026. CBT on 25 September; objections to the answer key closed 4 October.
Preparation Tips
- Go back to your ITI trade theory and workshop calculations; the paper is set from that syllabus.
- Keep hands-on practice going. The skill test is a pass-or-fail gate.
- With 0.33 off per error, leave questions you can't narrow down.
- If you hold an NAC (apprenticeship) certificate, mention it: ISTRAC uses it to break ties.
