Kerala PSC 10th Level Exam Syllabus, Exam Pattern
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The 10th Level Common Preliminary Examination (the PSC also calls it the SSLC level preliminary) is Kerala PSC's screening paper for posts whose qualification is SSLC or lower: Last Grade Servants, LD clerks, storemen and the like. It is not a post and has no notification of its own. You apply for a post; if that post goes into the common preliminary, you confirm and write it.
The 2026 round is written in four stages: Stages I and II on 18 July 2026 and Stages III and IV on 1 August 2026. Main exams for the posts in it are planned for October to December 2026. Earlier rounds were held on 25 October and 8 November 2025, and over four Saturdays from October to December 2023.

Kerala PSC 10th Level Exam Details
Exam Pattern
100 marks of OMR in 1 hour 15 minutes per stage. Morning stages ran 10.00 to 11.35 am and afternoon ones 1.30 to 3.05 pm. The paper is set in Malayalam, Tamil or Kannada.
| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| General knowledge, current affairs and the Kerala renaissance | 60 |
| General science (natural 10, physical 10) | 20 |
| Simple arithmetic (10) and mental ability (10) | 20 |
There is no English section in the 2026 preliminary.
Syllabus
The 60 general knowledge marks are split into six blocks of 10: current events in science, culture, politics, economics and sport; India's geography, energy, transport and industry; the freedom movement and post-independence India; citizens' rights and duties, national symbols and the human rights and information commissions; Kerala basics (rivers, backwaters, power projects, sanctuaries); and the Kerala renaissance with reformers such as Ayyankali, Chattampi Swamikal, Sree Narayana Guru, Pandit Karuppan and V.T. Bhattathiripad. See the 2026 syllabus.
Main exams differ by post. As an example, the 2025 10th level main for Attender and Storekeeper posts had 50 marks of general knowledge, 20 of current affairs, 10 of arithmetic and mental ability, 10 of English and 10 of regional language (syllabus).
Selection Process
Each stage has its own paper, so the PSC scales marks to a common level before short-listing. In 2025 the Phase I paper turned out harder and its marks were multiplied by 1.1645; Phase II marks stayed as they were. Each post then sets its own cut-off and publishes the list of candidates eligible for its main exam.
How to Apply
Apply for the posts through One Time Registration and submit the confirmation when the exam programme opens it. Your stage and date come with the admission ticket.

- Arithmetic and mental ability are a fifth of the paper and need speed more than depth.
