KVIC Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Important Dates
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
KVIC, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, is a statutory body under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It promotes khadi and village industries and runs rural employment schemes, chiefly the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
| Route | What it is |
|---|---|
| Regular posts | Group A, B and C posts in the Commission's own cadre, on central government pay levels, filled by advertisement and examination. Infrequent |
| Contractual engagements | Consultants, senior consultants, young professionals, technical and marketing experts and retired bank officers, on consolidated remuneration for a fixed term, filled on qualification, experience and interview |
As at 9 September 2026 there was no regular recruitment open. The KVIC Vacancies page carried eleven live advertisements from ten offices, closing between 12 September and 6 October 2026, and every one was a fixed-term contract. The only recent regular recruitment, 12 posts of Assistant Director-I at Level 09, has a notice cancelling it under the OBC category.
Most advertisements come from state and divisional offices, each with its own dates and address. There's no national notification. Retired bank officers are a recurring call at state offices, because PMEGP runs through bank lending.

Exam Pattern
KVIC doesn't publish a fixed exam pattern. Each regular recruitment sets its own, and it has used different agencies in different cycles.
Regular Group B and C posts usually have an objective written test covering reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English and general awareness (including khadi, village industries and rural development), with computer knowledge for clerical posts, a subject paper for Assistant Director and specialist posts, and typing or shorthand tests where the post needs them.
Contractual engagements usually have no written test: shortlisting on qualification and experience, then an interview. Take the actual structure from the advertisement on kvic.gov.in.

Salary
| Route | How it is paid |
|---|---|
| Regular posts in the Commission's own cadre | Central government pay levels. The Assistant Director-I recruitment, for example, was advertised at Level 09 of the pay matrix |
| Contractual engagements: consultants, senior consultants, young professionals, technical and marketing experts, retired bank officers, advocates on panel | A consolidated monthly remuneration fixed in each advertisement, for a fixed term, with no pay level and no service benefits |
A contract usually means a fixed fee, a term renewable on performance, no HRA, no pension and no claim to a permanent post. Each advertisement sets its own figure.
How to Apply
Each listing on the KVIC Vacancies page links to its advertisement. Some are applied for online through KVIC Online; others by sending the form to the office named.
Most current advertisements come from state offices (in September 2026: Shimla, Dehradun, Nagpur, Karnataka, Patna, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai and Telangana) alongside headquarters in Mumbai, and you apply to that office.
Regular posts come as a full notification with pay level, eligibility and selection process, applied for online. The last one visible was Assistant Director-I, 12 posts at Level 09.
The Vacancies page also lists things that aren't jobs: empanelment of advertising agencies, panels of advocates, inquiry officers, training programmes and khadi scheme invitations. Read the item before applying.
Participating Institutes
One employer: the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, headquartered in Mumbai, with state and divisional offices across the country.
| Office | What it advertises |
|---|---|
| Headquarters, Mumbai | Regular posts, consultants and senior consultants, young professionals, and central administrative appointments including deputation posts |
| State offices | Technical experts, marketing experts and retired bank officers on contract, and panels of advocates |
| Divisional offices | Technical experts and retired bank officers on contract |
| Multi-Disciplinary Training Centres | Skill development training programmes, which are training rather than employment |
Exam Centres
Most KVIC vacancies have no exam centre. Contractual engagements are decided by interview at the office that advertised, so apply to the Patna office and you're interviewed in Patna. Travel allowance usually isn't paid for these; check the advertisement.
For a regular recruitment with a written test, the notification and call letter name the centres.
Important Dates
KVIC has no annual calendar. Offices advertise on the KVIC Vacancies page as they need people, and windows close within a few weeks.

All contractual. Older notices include a staff car driver skill test and Director and Deputy CEO posts on deputation.
Admit Card
Contractual engagements have no admit card. Shortlisted candidates are contacted by the advertising office using the email and phone number in the application, so keep those working. Bring original certificates, experience letters and ID to the interview.
For a regular recruitment with a written test, the notification says where to download the call letter. Extensions and cancellations appear only on the KVIC Vacancies page.
Result
For contracts there's no published merit list, cut-off or marks. You get an offer or you hear nothing.
For regular posts the final result is declared through KVIC's online recruitment system. KVIC does cancel recruitments after applications close, as with the Assistant Director-I OBC posts, so check the KVIC Vacancies page if a process goes quiet.
Cut Off
KVIC publishes no cut-off marks. Most of its vacancies are contracts filled in ones and twos by interview, so there's nothing to cut off.
Where a regular recruitment has a written test, category-wise cut-offs are set after the exam for that recruitment only. Watch the KVIC Vacancies page when one is advertised.
Preparation Tips
- Check which route your post takes. A regular post means a written test; a consultant or young professional contract means qualification, experience and an interview.
- Learn KVIC's own subject. The KVIC Act, PMEGP and how it runs through banks, khadi certification, MSME policy, and the village industry groups (mineral based, agro based, polymer and chemical based, forest based, hand made paper and fibre, rural engineering and new technology, and service industries). These come up in the exam and at interview, and the scheme material and annual reports are on kvic.gov.in.
- General sections are standard. SSC-style reasoning, maths and English preparation carries over.
- For a contract, your experience is your application. Document it precisely, with dates and certificates.
- Check the KVIC Vacancies page on a schedule. Windows are short and there's no calendar.
Sample Papers
No sample papers or previous year papers are available for KVIC. The Commission doesn't publish papers, answer keys or response sheets, and most of its posts have no written test.
For a regular recruitment, the syllabus and pattern are in the notification on the KVIC Vacancies page.
