| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| General knowledge and reasoning | 40 |
| Mental ability and aptitude | 30 |
| Science and simple arithmetic | 30 |
The exam ran in many shifts over 13 days, so scores were normalised to a percentile. Wrong answers cost 0.25 mark under the Board's conduct rules.
Syllabus
The rulebook names only the three sections above and calls the level high school. It gives no topic list.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification: Class 12 (10+2), or higher secondary under the old system, or an equal exam. No relaxation is given, and the certificate must exist on the last date to apply.
Age: 18 to 33 on 1 January 2024 for unreserved candidates. It rises to 38 for unreserved women, SC, ST and OBC men and women, and state government, board and corporation employees. Candidates from other states get no relaxation and can only apply against unreserved posts.

The chest must expand by at least 5 cm. Candidates also need good eyesight, normal colour vision and no flat feet or knock knees. Only MP residents can claim reservation. A candidate with more than two children, one of them born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible.
Qualifying marks: 60% for unreserved and 50% for SC, ST and OBC. The EWS get a 10% concession, but are chosen on merit within their list.
Selection Process
- Online written exam by MPESB, with normalisation across shifts.
- Merit lists category by category, with a waiting list.
- Physical measurement by a committee that the Excise Commissioner forms.
- Medical examination by the District Medical Board, certificate verification and a police character check before the appointment order.
When two candidates tie, the older one ranks higher.

₹19,500 to 62,000. For the first three years pay is 70%, 80% and 90% of the minimum as a stipend, with the usual allowances from the department. Appointments after 1 January 2005 fall under the contributory pension scheme.
