MPPSC Forest Service Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
106 topics across 3 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The State Forest Service Examination of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, Residency Area, Indore. It recruits to the Madhya Pradesh Forest Service, and it is screened by the same paper set as the state's civil services examination.
| Conducted by | Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, Indore |
| Current advertisement | 30/2025, dated 31 December 2025 |
| Stages | Preliminary (objective, shared), Main (objective) and interview |
| Qualification | A graduate degree in any branch of Science, Engineering or Technology |
| Final total | 500 marks: written examination 450, interview 50 |
One Preliminary, two examinations
The Commission holds a single combined Preliminary for the State Service Examination and the State Forest Service Examination. For the 2026 cycle it fell on Sunday 26 April 2026, and both advertisements went out on 31 December 2025. The Forest Service advertisement makes the link compulsory: to reach the second stage, a candidate must appear in and qualify the State Service Preliminary Examination 2026.
So you sit one paper set, and the Commission counts it two different ways.
| State Forest Service | State Service | |
|---|---|---|
| Degree required | Science, Engineering or Technology | Any subject |
| Preliminary Paper II | Counts. The merit list adds both papers | Qualifying only. Not in the merit order |
| Preliminary merit computed on | 600 marks | 300 marks |
| Main Examination | Objective, one paper of 450 marks in a single session | Written and descriptive |
| Interview | 50 marks, no minimum | Part of the final merit |
Check the first row before anything else. A graduate in arts, commerce or law cannot sit this examination, though they could sit the State Service Examination on the same morning.
The second row is the one candidates carry across wrongly. Paper II, which the State Service candidate beside you only has to clear, is half your Preliminary score.

Exam Pattern
The Preliminary
| Paper | Subject | Duration | Marks | Timing on 26 April 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | General Studies | 2 hours | 300 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon |
| II | General Aptitude Test | 2 hours | 300 | 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. |
| Type | Objective, multiple choice, on an OMR sheet |
| Questions | 100 in each paper, each worth 3 marks |
| Marking | (3R minus W): 3 marks for a correct answer, 1 deducted for a wrong one |
| Minimum in each paper | 40 per cent for unreserved candidates and unreserved women; 30 per cent for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disabled candidates |
| Language | Hindi and English, except point 7 of the second paper's syllabus, Hindi comprehension, which is set in Hindi only |
| Where | District headquarters, two sessions on the same day |
Three wrong answers cancel one right one, a one third penalty written in whole numbers. An unattempted question costs nothing. For this examination the two papers are added, so the Preliminary merit is out of 600.
The Main Examination, which is objective
Unlike the State Service Mains, which is written and descriptive, this one is objective, OMR based, and sat in a single session.
| Section | Subject | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | General Studies | 50 | 150 | 3 hours, one session |
| B | Forestry and General Science | 100 | 300 | |
| Written total | 150 | 450 | ||
| Interview | – | 50 | ||
| Grand total | – | 500 | ||
- Four options per question, of which you select one only. Marking two cancels the answer: the candidate "has no right to select more than one option", and the question is then treated as unattempted.
- Same (3R minus W) marking as the Preliminary, and the paper is set in both Hindi and English.
- 40 per cent is needed separately in each of Sections A and B, relaxed to 30 per cent for Madhya Pradesh's notified SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disabled candidates. Scoring heavily in Forestry and falling below the bar in General Studies fails the paper whatever the total.
- The written merit adds both sections. The interview is 50 marks with no minimum qualifying mark, which is 10 per cent of the final 500.
Syllabus
The Commission states that the syllabus of the State Forest Service Preliminary is the same as the State Service Preliminary. It was published on 5 January 2026 and revised on 21 January 2026, with the detailed topic list at Appendix Two.
Paper I, General Studies
| Unit | What it covers |
|---|---|
| History of India | The ancient Indian knowledge tradition, the Vedas, Upanishads, Aranyakas and Brahmana texts, the Shaddarshana, the Smritis, Purushartha, Sanskara, the Panchamahayajna, the doctrine of Karma, the Bodhisattva and the Tirthankara; main features of ancient and medieval Indian history; cultural heritage; the social and religious reform movements of the 19th and 20th centuries; the freedom struggle; and integration and reorganisation after independence |
| History, Culture and Literature of Madhya Pradesh | Major dynasties, the state's contribution to the freedom movement, art and architecture, major tribes and their dialects, festivals, folk music, folk arts and folk literature, literary figures, religious, cultural and archaeological tourist sites, World Heritage Sites and major tribal personalities |
| Geography of India | Mountains, hills, plateaus, rivers and lakes; El Nino, La Nina, the southern oscillation and western disturbances, and the consequences of climate change; natural resources in forest, mineral and water; major crops, food security and the Green Revolution; conventional and non-conventional energy; natural hazards and disasters; population growth, distribution, density and migration |
| AYUSH and health | Basic principles of Ayurveda, Yoga and naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and homoeopathy; the One Nation One Health System policy 2030; the Tridosha, the Panchamahabhuta, Dinacharya, Ritucharya and the biological clock; the Panchakosha theory, Ashtanga Yoga and the Shatkarma; the Shodasha Sanskara |
| National health programmes | The national programmes on leprosy, AIDS, blindness, polio, tuberculosis, vector-borne disease control and reproductive and child health; the Integrated Child Development Scheme and national immunisation; Swachh Bharat, Ayushman Bharat and the National Health Mission; the maternal mortality rate in Madhya Pradesh; primary health care |
| Environment | The concept of environment in Indian tradition and culture and the Janapadodhvamsa; the impact of human activity, environmental ethics and values, biodiversity with special reference to Madhya Pradesh, pollution and climate change, endangered and extinct species; the causes and effects of degradation; environmental education and its relation to health and safety |
Geography, with its natural resources head, and Environment, with biodiversity and endangered species, bear directly on the service. A Forest Service candidate should not read them as general knowledge.
Paper II, General Aptitude Test
100 questions of 3 marks in two hours, syllabus at Appendix Two alongside Paper I's, and for this examination it counts towards the merit. The questions on point 7 of its syllabus, comprehension skill in the Hindi language, are set in Hindi only, although the rest of the paper is bilingual.
The Mains syllabus
Published separately as the exam plan and syllabus for the State Forest Service Mains Examination 2026, dated 6 February 2026. Section A is General Studies, 50 questions for 150 marks; Section B is Forestry and General Science, 100 questions for 300.
Two thirds of the written paper is the subject. That is why the degree requirement is restricted to Science, Engineering or Technology, and it is where a science or engineering graduate's degree actually pays.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
A graduate degree in any branch of Science, Engineering or Technology. Narrower than the State Service Examination, where any graduate is eligible. An arts, commerce or law graduate cannot sit this one.
Two deadlines, not one
| What | Must be held by |
|---|---|
| The degree | The last date of the online application for the second stage |
| Everything else: original or local residence, age, caste, disability, ex-serviceman status, EWS status for the relevant financial year | The last date for the Preliminary application, 9 February 2026 for this cycle |
Late applicants are not exempt from the second row. Paying ₹25,000 buys time to apply, not time to become eligible.
A candidate must also appear in and qualify the State Service Preliminary Examination 2026. That is a condition of reaching the second stage, not an alternative route.
Age
Reckoned as on 1 January 2026 for this cycle, and from one document only: the date of birth entered in the candidate's 10th (High School) marksheet. The name, father's name and date of birth must be entered in the application exactly as they appear on it.
Reservation
The process follows the Madhya Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994, and for EWS the State Government's instructions. All of it is in the context of Madhya Pradesh.
- Reservation and the age relaxation that goes with it are available only to original residents of Madhya Pradesh. SC, ST, OBC, EWS, women, disabled and ex-serviceman candidates from other states are treated as unreserved.
- Where no post is reserved for a category, candidates of that category are considered unreserved.
- Creamy layer OBC candidates get no reservation, no age relaxation and no other benefit. An MP-resident OBC candidate in the creamy layer who enters OBC in the application is treated exactly as unreserved, and every OBC candidate must declare before the interview, in point 6 of Appendix III, that they do not fall in it.
- The certificate for EWS and other reserved categories, in the State Government's prescribed format from the competent authority, must be valid for financial year 2025-2026 on the last date for applying.
Employment exchange registration
| Candidate | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Candidates of other states | Exempt, under the final order of 8 March 2022 in Writ Petition 5096/2022 before the principal bench of the High Court at Jabalpur |
| Original residents of Madhya Pradesh | Not required when applying, but a live registration certificate must be produced by the last date for sending documents for the interview |
| MP residents in government service | Exempt, on producing a no objection certificate |
| MP residents in non-government service | Exempt, on producing a certificate of being in service |
What ends a candidature
The result is declared on the category, class, gender, disability, ex-serviceman status, government servant status and date of birth the candidate entered. After the correction period no change of any kind is accepted, and the Commission will not correspond about a representation on category or date of birth. Where wrong information on qualification, category, residence, age, caste, disability, ex-serviceman or EWS status comes to notice at any level, the candidature is cancelled and the candidate debarred.
One disclaimer the Commission enters for itself: the qualification, experience and reservation classification of the advertised posts come from the requisition sent by the department, it has no role in them, and complaints on that subject go directly to the department.
Selection Process
- Preliminary Examination, held as a combined examination with the State Service Examination. Two objective papers of 300 marks each, both counted here, so the merit is out of 600.
- Main Examination, one objective paper of 450 marks in a single session of three hours.
- Interview, 50 marks.
The Preliminary shortlist
A maximum of twenty times the total vacancies, category-wise, with candidates on equal marks within a category also declared qualified. Only candidates the Commission has declared qualified under the relevant advertisement may enter the second stage.
The answer key, which is unusually well specified
After each examination the Commission publishes a provisional answer key of the questions asked with model answers, and receives objections online for five days. Objections go through the portal only, cost a prescribed per-question fee plus a portal fee, and that fee is not refunded in any circumstance. Nothing is considered after the five days.
A subject expert committee then decides them by four published rules, and its decision is final and binding:
- Where the provisional key gives a wrong answer and another option is right, the key is corrected.
- Where the Hindi and English translations of a question differ, only the Hindi translation is valid.
- Where more than one option is correct, all correct answers are accepted.
- Where no option is correct, the question is deleted, and every candidate present at that paper is awarded its full marks.
Rule two settles real disputes: in a bilingual paper, the Hindi version governs.
Record scrutiny, which sits between the written result and the interview
The exam plan sets out a step that is easy to miss. With the examination result a last date is fixed for the submission of records. All records relating to eligibility are obtained from the provisionally successful candidates, and only those found eligible after close scrutiny are invited to the interview. Records are not accepted after that date.
For an original resident of Madhya Pradesh that package includes a live employment exchange registration certificate, or a no objection certificate or certificate of being in service for those already employed.
The final total
| Component | Marks | In the final total? |
|---|---|---|
| Preliminary, both papers added | 600 | No. A screening stage |
| Main, Section A General Studies | 150 | Yes |
| Main, Section B Forestry and General Science | 300 | Yes |
| Interview | 50 | Yes |
| Grand total | 500 |
The interview is 10 per cent of the total and carries no minimum qualifying mark, so it cannot end a candidacy and it can move a rank only so far. The written examination decides this recruitment.
Salary
The pay for each advertised post is in the Commission's own vacancy and pay table, inside advertisement 30/2025. No rupee figure is repeated here, because that table has not been read against the source and a pay scale is not something to approximate.
Two things the advertisement does state about pay. Dearness allowance and the other allowances sanctioned by the State Government from time to time are payable in addition to the scales shown in that table. And the qualification, experience and reservation classification of the posts are fixed by the requisitioning department, not the Commission, which does not accept complaints about them.
What the shape of the examination says about the job
- The degree requirement is restricted to Science, Engineering or Technology, narrower than the state's civil services examination.
- The Mains gives 300 of its 450 marks to Forestry and General Science.
- The Preliminary counts both papers, so this candidate is screened on 600 marks where a State Service candidate is screened on 300.
- The interview is 50 marks in 500 with no minimum, so it shifts a rank by at most a tenth of the total.
Taken together, a recruitment weighted towards demonstrated subject knowledge and away from interview performance.
How to Apply
| 2026 cycle | |
|---|---|
| Advertisement | 30/2025, dated 31 December 2025 |
| Mode | Online only, at mponline.gov.in and mppsc.mp.gov.in. No manual or postal application is accepted |
| Applications open | 10 January 2026 |
| Applications close | 9 February 2026, 12:00 midnight |
| Admit cards | From 16 April 2026 |
| Preliminary | Sunday 26 April 2026, two sessions |
Apply for the State Service Preliminary too, because you have to sit it: the Preliminary is a combined examination, and qualifying it is a condition of reaching this examination's second stage.
The late fee
| When the application is filed | Late fee |
|---|---|
| By 9 February 2026 | None |
| 10 to 16 February 2026 | ₹3,000 |
| 17 February to 1 April 2026 | ₹25,000 |
The Commission offers this as a facility for candidates who cannot apply in time, so it is a priced extension rather than a penalty. Anyone who thinks they may want to apply should still apply by 9 February.
Error correction
| When | Fee | What cannot be changed |
|---|---|---|
| 15 January to 11 February 2026, online only | ₹50 per correction per session | The candidate's name. No correction of the name is possible at all |
| For late fee applicants, up to 15 days before the admit card issues | ₹50 per session | The same |
An error in the Preliminary application cannot be corrected at the Mains or interview stage. Correcting a reserved category to unreserved also means paying the fee difference; correcting the other way, the difference is not refunded.
Pay by card, internet banking or cash at an authorised MP Online kiosk, on the fee schedule at Appendix III of the advertisement. No draft or cheque is accepted, and the Commission does not entertain refund claims for excess or erroneous payment.
Participating Institutes
| Body | Role |
|---|---|
| Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, Residency Area, Indore | Conducts all three stages and publishes the advertisement, the exam plans and syllabi, the provisional and final answer keys, the results and the mark sheets. Documents are signed by the Controller of Examination |
| MP Online | The application portal, and the authorised kiosks where the fee may be paid in cash |
| The requisitioning department | Fixes the qualification, experience and reservation classification of the posts. The Commission says it has no role in that and does not accept complaints about it |
The two advertisements that travel together
| Advertisement | Examination | Degree required |
|---|---|---|
| 29/2025, 31 December 2025 | State Service Examination 2026 | Any graduate |
| 30/2025, 31 December 2025 | State Forest Service Examination 2026 | Science, Engineering or Technology |
Issued the same day, screened by the same combined Preliminary on 26 April 2026, and diverging completely after it.
Reservation runs under the Madhya Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994, with the State Government's instructions for EWS, and the High Court order of 8 March 2022 in Writ Petition 5096/2022 that exempted candidates of other states from employment exchange registration.
MPPSC runs a large continuous calendar, and was advertising Assistant Professor posts, the State Engineering Service, Assistant District Public Prosecution Officer, Scientific Officer, Food Safety Officer, Mining Inspector, Assistant Registrar and the State Eligibility Test alongside this. Check the advertisement number before relying on any rule.
Exam Centres
The Preliminary is held at district headquarters, in two sessions on the same day. For the 2026 cycle that was Sunday 26 April 2026.
| Session | Paper | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | General Studies | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon |
| Afternoon | General Aptitude Test | 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. |
Both papers are sat on the same day with a gap of a little over two hours, so plan for a full day at the centre. For a Forest Service candidate both of them count.
The Mains is one session of three hours, 150 objective questions across Sections A and B on a single OMR sheet, conducted offline.
Language at the centre
Both papers are set in Hindi and English, except the Hindi comprehension questions of Preliminary Paper II, which appear in Hindi only. Where the two versions of a question differ, the published answer key rule settles it: only the Hindi translation is valid.
Four options per question, one to be selected. Marking more than one cancels the answer and the question is treated as unattempted, and a wrong answer costs 1 mark against the 3 a right one earns.
Important Dates
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 31 December 2025 | Advertisements 29/2025 and 30/2025 issued |
| 10 January 2026 | Online applications open |
| 15 January 2026 | Online error correction opens |
| 9 February 2026, midnight | Last date to apply, and the date by which every eligibility except the degree must be held |
| 11 February 2026 | Online error correction closes |
| 10 to 16 February 2026 | Application still possible on a late fee of ₹3,000 |
| 17 February to 1 April 2026 | Application still possible on a late fee of ₹25,000 |
| 1 April 2026 | Absolute last date for any error correction |
| 16 April 2026 | Admit cards available |
| 26 April 2026, Sunday | Combined Preliminary Examination, two sessions |
The Mains plan was published on 6 February 2026, before the Preliminary rather than after it, so a candidate could see the whole shape of the examination before sitting the first paper.
The three dates that decide eligibility
| Date | What it fixes |
|---|---|
| 1 January 2026 | Age, computed from the date of birth on the 10th (High School) marksheet |
| 9 February 2026 | Every other eligibility, and the validity of the reserved category certificate for financial year 2025-2026. Late fee applicants are not exempt |
| The last date of the online application for the second stage | The degree in Science, Engineering or Technology |
One more date is fixed later: the last date for submitting records, announced with the written examination result. Records are not accepted afterwards, and a candidate who misses it is not invited to the interview. Forward dates appear on the Commission's own site under Examination Calendar.
Admit Card
Admit cards are downloaded from mponline.gov.in and mppsc.mp.gov.in. For the 2026 cycle they were available from 16 April 2026, ten days before the 26 April Preliminary. Nothing is posted.
The Commission's site is also where the Examination Calendar, Syllabus and Scheme, Sample Question Answer Booklets, Examination Rules, Previous Year Question Papers, Results, Mark Sheet, Mocktest and Download Formats live, each as a dated listing.
What cannot be fixed once the card is close
- The candidate's name. No correction of the name is possible at any point.
- Anything at all after 1 April 2026, the absolute end of the correction window. Ordinary correction closes on 11 February, or for late fee applicants fifteen days before the admit card issues.
- Anything at the written examination or interview stage. An error in the Preliminary application cannot be corrected there.
Result
The Commission publishes each stage separately on its own site.
| Document | What it is |
|---|---|
| Provisional answer key | With a five day online objection window, on a per-question fee plus a portal fee that is never refunded |
| Final answer key | After the subject expert committee decides the objections |
| Result | Stage by stage |
| Obtained mark list | Published separately from the result |
| Selection list | The final selection |
| Mark Sheet | A standing facility on the site |
| Corrigenda, caveat notices, notices on rejection of candidature | Separate dated documents |
A declared result is still conditional. The advertisement provides that a candidature or selection may be cancelled where ineligibility or wrong information is found at any stage, or even after the result is declared, and that the candidate alone is responsible.
Cut Off
| Stage | Minimum | Merit computed on |
|---|---|---|
| Preliminary | 40 per cent in each paper for unreserved candidates and unreserved women; 30 per cent for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disabled candidates | Both papers added, out of 600 |
| Main | 40 per cent separately in each of Sections A and B for general candidates; 30 per cent for MP's notified SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disabled candidates | Both sections added, out of 450 |
| Interview | None. No minimum is fixed | 50 |
The section-wise minimum is where candidates come unstuck. Section A is only 50 questions for 150 marks against Section B's 100 for 300, so preparation concentrated on Forestry can clear the larger section comfortably and fail on the smaller one. The same applies at the Preliminary, where the minimum is per paper even though the merit adds both.
The Preliminary funnel is twenty times the total vacancies, category-wise, with everyone on equal marks within a category included. Because the ratio is applied per category, each category's cut-off is set inside its own pool.
Why the State Service cut-off tells you nothing
The two examinations share a paper set and nothing else. The Forest Service Preliminary merit is computed on 600 marks from a pool of Science, Engineering and Technology graduates; the State Service merit is computed on 300 from all graduates, against a different vacancy count. A figure reported for one says nothing about the other.
Published figures, when they come, appear on the Commission's site: the result, a separate obtained mark list, the selection list and a standing Mark Sheet facility, alongside the provisional and final answer keys.
Preparation Tips
Check the degree first
A graduate degree in any branch of Science, Engineering or Technology. That gate is narrower than the State Service Examination sat on the same morning, and an arts, commerce or law graduate cannot pass it.
Prepare Paper II as a scoring paper
Both Preliminary papers count here and the merit adds them, out of 600. The State Service candidate sitting beside you only has to clear Paper II; you have to score in it. This is the fact most often carried across wrongly from State Service material.
Do the arithmetic on the marking
Three marks for a right answer, one off for a wrong one, so three wrong cancel one right. An unattempted question costs nothing. In the Mains, marking two options cancels the answer outright and the question counts as unattempted, so hedging between two choices loses the whole question.
Do not fail on the small section
The Mains needs 40 per cent separately in Section A and Section B. Section A is 50 questions for 150 marks; Section B is 100 for 300. Prepare the subject deeply and treat General Studies as an afterthought and you can clear two thirds of the paper and still be out on the other third.
But give Section B the weight it carries
Forestry and General Science is 300 of the 450 written marks, 60 per cent of the whole 500 mark total, and the largest single block anywhere in this recruitment.
Read the Preliminary units with a forester's eye
Geography of India carries a head on natural resources in forest, mineral and water. Environment carries biodiversity with special reference to Madhya Pradesh and endangered and extinct species. And the history, culture and literature of Madhya Pradesh is a whole unit that national material does not cover at all.
Apply by 9 February, and fill the form as if it cannot be changed
Applying later costs ₹3,000 and then ₹25,000, and buys no extra time to become eligible. The name can never be corrected; enter the name, father's name and date of birth exactly as on the 10th marksheet. Other corrections cost ₹50 per session, close on 11 February 2026, and end absolutely on 1 April. Nothing can be corrected at the Mains or interview stage.
Have the documents ready before the result, not after
The last date for submitting records is announced with the written result, and records are not accepted afterwards. For an MP resident that includes a live employment exchange registration certificate, or an NOC or certificate of being in service.
Do not over-prepare for the interview
50 marks in 500, with no minimum qualifying mark. It cannot end a candidacy and it moves a rank by at most a tenth of the total.
Sample Papers
MPPSC publishes previous year question papers and sample question answer booklets as standing listings on mppsc.mp.gov.in, alongside a Mocktest facility it hosts itself. Those settle the level of the paper better than any description of it.
It also publishes a provisional answer key after each examination with a five day online objection window, and a final key after the subject expert committee has decided the objections. Both appear on the same site, usually within days of the paper.
Two documents are worth reading before any practice material: the Mains exam plan of 6 February 2026, which settles the whole second stage in a few pages, and the fourth special note of the Preliminary exam plan, one sentence that distinguishes this examination from the State Service one. Material claiming Paper II is qualifying only, or describing a descriptive Mains, is describing the State Service Examination.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who conducts the MPPSC State Forest Service Examination?
The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission at Residency Area, Indore, under advertisement 30/2025 of 31 December 2025. Applications are online only, through mponline.gov.in and mppsc.mp.gov.in.
What qualification is needed?
A graduate degree in any branch of Science, Engineering or Technology. That is narrower than the State Service Examination, where any graduate is eligible.
Is there a separate Preliminary Examination?
No. There is one combined Preliminary for the State Service and State Forest Service examinations, held on 26 April 2026 for this cycle. Appearing in and qualifying the State Service Preliminary is compulsory to reach this examination's second stage.
Do both Preliminary papers count?
Yes, for this examination. The merit list is prepared by adding the marks of both papers, out of 600. For the State Service Examination, Paper II is qualifying only.
What is the Preliminary pattern and marking?
Two objective papers, General Studies and General Aptitude Test, each 100 questions of 3 marks for 300 marks in two hours. Marking is (3R minus W): 3 for a correct answer, 1 deducted for a wrong one. You need 40 per cent in each paper, or 30 per cent if you are SC, ST, OBC, EWS or disabled.
How many go through to the Mains?
A maximum of twenty times the total vacancies, category-wise, with candidates on equal marks within a category also declared qualified.
Is the Mains descriptive?
No, it is objective and OMR based, in one session of three hours: Section A General Studies, 50 questions for 150 marks, and Section B Forestry and General Science, 100 questions for 300. The State Service Mains is the descriptive one.
What must I score in the Mains?
40 per cent separately in each of Sections A and B for general candidates, and 30 per cent for Madhya Pradesh's notified SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disabled candidates. The written merit adds both sections. Marking two options cancels the answer and the question counts as unattempted.
How many marks is the interview?
50, with no minimum qualifying marks. The final total is 500: written 450, interview 50.
Is there a step between the written result and the interview?
Yes. The Commission fixes a last date for submitting records, obtains all eligibility records from the provisionally successful candidates, and invites to the interview only those found eligible after close scrutiny. Records are not accepted after that date.
What is the age limit and how is it computed?
Age is reckoned as on 1 January 2026, from the date of birth entered in the candidate's 10th (High School) marksheet. No other document is accepted for it.
What is the late fee?
₹3,000 from 10 to 16 February 2026, and ₹25,000 from 17 February to 1 April 2026. It buys time to apply, not time to become eligible: everything except the degree must still be held on 9 February 2026.
Can I correct my application?
Yes, for ₹50 per correction per session, online, from 15 January to 11 February 2026, ending absolutely on 1 April 2026. The name cannot be corrected at all, and nothing can be corrected at the Mains or interview stage.
Can candidates from other states get reservation?
No. All reservation and the age relaxation with it goes only to original residents of Madhya Pradesh. Candidates of those categories from other states are treated as unreserved. Creamy layer OBC candidates get nothing either, and every OBC candidate must declare before the interview that they do not fall in it.
Do I need an employment exchange registration?
Not when applying. An MP resident must produce a live registration certificate by the last date for sending documents for the interview, unless already in service. Candidates of other states are exempt under the High Court order of 8 March 2022 in Writ Petition 5096/2022.
What if the Hindi and English versions of a question differ?
Only the Hindi translation is valid. That is a published rule of the answer key process, and objections themselves must be filed online within five days on a fee that is never refunded.
Can I apply for both this and the State Service Examination?
Yes, with a Science, Engineering or Technology degree. You sit one set of Preliminary papers and the Commission counts them two ways: both added for the Forest Service, Paper I alone for the State Service.
